Playing Milligan at the back would be such a waste. Man that would disappoint me.

Could this be the year that Kev finally shows some flexibility and a different formation? The signing of Sanchez and the lack of a left back makes me thing it's a possibility, or even a probability at this stage.

I could almost see something like:

Bare in mind that Ange is a pretty big influence on Muscy as a coach, and the Socceroos have played that 3-4-3 with the box midfield a couple of times in the last year and a bit. (Although it has to be said that the Socceroos haven't played it particularly well.)

Never thought about a change from a back four, I don't think the A League has come that far for a crazy formation like that. That being said Donachie at left back would be an absolute catastrophe.

On paper I like it but Kosta may struggle sitting inside, If he sits wide in that Formation the oppo defenders will be able to waltz into the middle of the park to often, If we could get Nicholas Martinez in Kosta's spot we would be awesome, Whats his status currently??

It's not that crazy a formation when the national team is using it.

And in a back 3, Donarchie isn't playing as a left back - he's a central defender who plays on the left side, but isn't bombing up the wing like a full back.

I'm not arguing that it's the correct option, just making the point that given the current squad we have it's what I could see us going with.

Not necessarily a waste. If Sanchez turns out to be a great pick up there's no reason him, Valeri and Troisi can't man the middle. Backline of Geria/Williams/Milligan/Brox or import LB is very good.

I'm fine with Milligan as part of a back 3 with Donachie and Williams but Geria isn't a capable wingback. He can't cross the ball to save himself. Attacking wise on the right, it will be a black hole.

If we are changing formation to a wingback system, then we need to sign both a left and right wing back.

After the 20 minute cluster f*ck that was last round trying to log in etc etc I am going to look for an illegal stream somewhere. Is this league ever going to get some proper online access? Talking Optus Sport style (minus the many issues etc) where there is access to panel shows. Or is that new Fox Sports online only subscription a worthy investment?

*edit: eff that, show only the FFA Cup live, replays of every A League game (12 hours later, lol)

I've never had any problem with fox sports online. It takes literally 5 minutes to sort out a login and link it to your Foxtel subscription. The quality of the stream can be hit and miss, but a low cost production for an online only game is going to be like that in a country as small as ours.

I'm talking a dedicated A League only subscription, not one where you have to have a foxtel subscription and pay for all kinds of stuff you don't want.

I don't care, I use a friends log-in but it's still another missed opportunity in growing the league imo and online the reliability is absolutely terrible. I can get a better quality illegal stream than I can a fox stream which is crazy.

That's a discussion for a whole other thread as well, and a point that's been discussed comprehensively on BF, Whirlpool et al. The unfortunate reality is that even in countries bigger than ours, the profitability of subscription television relies on making us pay for shit we don't watch. This is what pays Foxtel's bills for AFL, NRL, A-League coverage (and all the other tv rights they hold.)

I think the cheapest Foxtel sub with HD & the sports pack is a little over $60. If you could get a sports only package, I reckon you'd still be looking at $50+ (though it's still an option I'd personally take up to save ~$10. Occasional WWE is the only non-sport I watch on Foxtel.)

Also, this is literally impossible in the case of the FFA Cup online matches. There's no way that an "illegal streamer" can (or would) upscale a stream so that it's better than Fox Sports' native coverage.

I tried logging into the foxsports website with my foxtel details and it came up saying something about the primary account/profile needs to accept something...I only have one account/profile so I think it is telling me I dont have access to this despite having foxsports....

I dont think they could make this anymore difficult...how hard is doing a 'press Red for ED' type setup

Williams is a little lucky that wasn't red - that was pretty blatant goal keeping.

I don't care so much about the Cup, but man this defensive performance has been a massive concern in this half. Donarchie in particular has looked quite shit.

I can't see any way back either. Apart from a couple of half chances in the first half, we haven't really looked like scoring tonight. We desperately need that left sided winger brought in as soon as possible. I want that left back as well, cos part of me thinks that Broxham might be better served putting pressure on Geria for his spot.

We should try not to read too much into what is effectively a pre-season game, but there's some pretty serious concerns from this game, and particularly from the 2nd half.
