West End Redbacks wicketkeeper-batsman Harry Nielsen has been confirmed as Alex Carey’s replacement for the KFC BBL finals series.

Nielsen, 22 was upgraded to a full South Australian contract this season after a string of impressive performances in 2017 and will take the gloves in place of Alex Carey who is in the Australian Gillette T20 International Tri-Series squad.

He made his List A debut for Cricket Australia’s XI in this season’s JLT Cup, scoring an impressive 94 against Victoria while also taking one of the catches of the tournament against his South Australian teammates.

Nielsen made his first-class debut for the CA XI against England in November, making 20 and taking three catches. He was also involved in this month's one-day tour match, making 40 and taking another three catches.

He also famously stood-in for Quinton de Kock in South Africa’s 2016 tour match against a CA XI side, taking four catches for the match in an unexpected appearance at Adelaide Oval.

The gloveman also made 171 for Premier Cricket club Woodville in first grade early last month, batting at no.3.

Nielsen will make his Adelaide Strikers debut in the semi-final against the Melbourne Renegades on Friday night.

Everyone else going to load up their benches with Scorchers/Hurricanes players and try to loophole some good scores ?
i dont know about loading up but it looks like you get one free crack at every line so why not use it.

its kind of redundant in the keeper spot too with Nielson and Ludeman the loophole options...unless whoever you pick scores zero in the first game.

Alot of sides are going to look pretty similar this round I would have thought

Marsh and Bresnan to be loopholed (figured both are likely to do nothing or do a lot) , possibly at the expense of Cooper and Pollard if they score well enough. Almost looked at Turner as the bowling loophole, but reckon he might be starved of batting and isn't bowling.
Paine vs Wade is an interesting one, and really the only two keepers that will be looked at by any coaches.

Not sure if I will use a VC loophole, as doing so will mean I will have to take either Marsh/Bresnans score (to put the C on a 0 player) which kind of defeats the whole purpose of setting up that loophole. Archer and Bravo the two likely candidates for straight out captaincy.

you can always use the keepers for VC loophole. i dont think you're going to miss out on too many points there even if Paine scores zero.
Just realised I can use Carey as keeper to use the regular captain loophole (given he will be on national duty). 116k is expensive for a bench player but salary cap isn't an issue at this stage

Archer VC into Bravo C if the first fails might be popular
Only thing that worries me about Archer is if the Scorchers chase down an easy total and he isn't needed for the death overs.

So got the VC on Christian, and Breanan on the bench as the loophole player. Also on the bench is Pattinson (not playing) and then I'll do a non playing Gade on the field and put the C on him. Will that give me Christians score as captain, and Breanan's score on field? Cheers lads

Yep should be all good. Massive call putting the VC on Christian as well as picking Bresnan. You'll go close to winning the round at this stage.

Well played

I moved my loophole from Bresnan to Turner yesterday, thinking that Bresnan wouldn't do much :(
Have the Smarsh loophole in bats which I might use (50 is a good score)
Also put the VC on Archer, won't be taking that. DJ Bravo tomorrow night I reckon
Paine over Wade hurts

Take Paine's 28 or go with Ludeman or Nielsen?
I'm leaning towards taking Paines 28
The way Short and Harris have been going, Ludeman won't be opening the batting and if he's not opening he will likely bat below White, Cooper, Bravo and even Pollard meaning he bats 6/7th. To beat Paines score without batting, he will need to take at least 3 catches away from home.

Nielsen is too much of an unknown for mine. Based on their last game, the Strikers will open with Weatherald and Dean, and they still have Head, Ingram, Lehmann and Wells who will probably bat above Nielsen. Paines score isn't fantastic (especially if you compare it to Wade) but I feel its the best we are going to get from Keepers this round.

and loaded ?
I'm going to go with Ludeman and see what he can do. Hopefully a catch or two first innings then a quick fire innings.

Head (c), Khan, Neser, Bravo , Ludeman in action

Yep

Ludes on over Paine
