Given Adelaide Collingwood and Fremantle probably have over 140,000 members signed up but not reporting their numbers publicly, the clubs will go to the Christmas break with over 600k members and the final audited AFL figure will be around 900k given 857k was the 2016 final total. You would expect by the week of the first game around 95% of the final total to be signed up.

Some clubs up and some down as per usual.

At a guess they will be up overall though, with Essendon leading the charge.

Be interesting to see what bandwagon the Bullies get though.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see GWS improve again 10% or so, although off a small base wont make overall figures any different.

Officially 52,401. Not bad tbh given their indifferent year in 2016. Look to be on track for 70-72K which is a good result all things considered.

Anyone have any idea how Collingwood are going?

Understand they're going through a rebuild however the Blues seem to be just going again in 2017. Don't look like they're going to get much over 50K again. For a club if it's side there's much work ahead. Wins early will help of course.
 
I didn't mention it yesterday, but St Kilda reached the 31 by 31 (31,000 members by the 31st of December) goal set with 9 days to spare, which is a club record by almost 5,000 for this time of year.

This leaves the club in a good position to push for 45,000 members this year, even if it is still unlikely we get there.

Great result. Quite a few clubs going well so far, Bulldogs, Demons and I think the Cats as well at 43K which sounds good.

Essendon updated to 46,133. +7800 Vs previous pre Chrismas record (61,000 members that year) and around 8,700 up on same time last year. 70,000 not totally out of reach but 65,000+ a huge result and many on higher yielding packages which will be financially very pleasing come year end.

The loyal fan base will stick by the club, but things could get interesting if the Magpies perform below expectations in the first half of the season. Somewhat forgotten in all of the outside distractions is a talented group of youngsters, led by Adam Treloar and Darcy Moore, who are eager to see their club rise up the ladder. - Ben Guthrie

Recruits Cam McCarthy and Shane Kersten add firepower, Bradley Hill should relish the expanses of Domain Stadium, while Joel Hamling and ready-to-play draftee Griffin Logue could form a defensive partnership for the next decade. Harley Bennell is the X-factor, if he can overcome his injury woes. How far Freo bounce back up the ladder is an intriguing question, but Ross Lyon's side will be much improved. - Travis King

Peter Wright and Jack Martin are both coming off terrific seasons, and if the Suns can avoid the injury curse of the past two seasons, watch out in 2017. - Michael Whiting

GWS will have learnt plenty from their tough loss in the preliminary final, and with their growing experience and star power, should be there late in late September 2017. – Adam Curley

The Demons have one of the brightest young lists in the AFL, with Jesse Hogan, Christian Petracca, Jayden Hunt and Clayton Oliver all showing plenty of potential. North Melbourne

  • REASONS TO BUY: Although North's premiership window was slammed shut by its list overhaul at the end of 2016, it should remain fiercely competitive under new captain Jack Ziebell. In Ziebell, Todd Goldstein, Ben Cunnington and Andrew Swallow, the Roos have a strong midfield core, while their spine remains strong, with Jarrad Waite and Ben Brown in attack and Robbie Tarrant and Scott Thompson in defence. Many expect North to be one of 2017's sliders, but a top-eight finish is not beyond it. Whatever happens, exciting prospects such as Mason Wood, Majak Daw, Ryan Clarke, Ed Vickers-Willis, Corey Wagner, Jy Simpkin and, possibly, Ben McKay will enjoy extended opportunities next season – and that alone should have Roos fans excited. - Nick Bowen

A fully-fit Charlie Dixon can be a damaging force up forward, while draftee Sam Powell-Pepper has the potential to make an immediate impact at the next level. - Lee Gaskin

Richmond

For all the pessimism that surrounded the club in 2016, it did make the finals for the three years prior. While the exit of Brett Deledio hurts, Alex Rance, Jack Riewoldt, Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin are all stars, and have enough talent to be able to carry the Tigers back to September. - Dinny Navaratnam

St Kilda

  • REASONS TO BUY: St Kilda fans have good reason to be optimistic. Coming off a 12-win season and with percentage the only barrier to making finals, the Saints' younger brigade showed promise while the veterans kept playing well. The addition of Jack Steele and Koby Stevens adds hardness and depth to the on-ball unit while the likes of Jade Gresham and Blake Acres should continue to improve. Meanwhile, a defence that ranked 13th for points conceded this year should be stiffened by the addition of Jake Carlisle and Nathan Brown. - Dinny Navaratnam

Western Bulldogs

  • REASONS TO BUY: Bulldogs fans should be falling over each other trying to sign up for 2017. The premiers will be bigger and better in 2017 as they attempt to go back to back. The return of skipper Bob Murphy is reason alone to jump on the Bulldogs bandwagon and become a member. Add forwards Stewart Crameri and Travis Cloke to the mix, and the Dogs will only go from strength to strength. The Western Bulldogs broke the 40,000-member barrier for the first time in its history this year, and if the on-field success continues in 2017, you can be sure a new record will be set. - Nat Edwards
