Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman reports "at least a half-dozen teams" have tried to lure Calvin Johnson out of retirement, but that he hasn't entertained the possibility.

Per Freeman, some of the attempts have been "fairly fierce." Johnson has been making the camp rounds this summer, notably snubbing the Lions, with whom he still has bad blood. Johnson is only 32 years old (in September).

I thought one of the reasons he retired was because the Lions wouldn't let him out of his contract.

This is an amazing point and incredible hypocrisy from the NFL.

"Josh Norman's big-play celebration is simple. Harmless, really.

He simulates shooting a bow-and-arrow. No throat slash. Nothing obscene. Just a simple shooting of an arrow.

The NFL feels differently. League official Carl Johnson explained during a visit to Redskins camp that any celebrations involving imaginary weaponry use will be flagged, whether performed on the field or sideline, according to Liz Clarke of the Washington Post and other media outlets. The sideline part is curious because such a celebration would be, you know, on the damn sideline.

Norman made an even better point.

If stadium celebrations using imaginary weaponry are banned, why are teams like the Patriots and Buccaneers allowed to do just that? Both franchises shoot off fake weapons—cannons by the Bucs and muskets by the Patriots.

"If one of them is bad and looked at as dangerous, how come not all of them are looked at in that way?" Norman asked ESPN's John Keim.

That is a fair question. The NFL doesn't have a legitimate answer."

Pretty impressed with some of Kizer's throws. Seems to be able to throw a decent deep ball. Liked his capacity to move around in the pocket (albeit against second stringers of New Orleans) to keep the play live long enough. He also seemed to recognise when it would not be advisable to throw under pressure and was good enough to throw the ball away when the situation demanded it.

There was some stat I found, something like teams that had -15 turnover ratio happened 10 times. They were like 5,6,6,6,7,7,7,8,9,10 wins the next season. A few stats like that that match the Jags and Bears saying they'll be over most predicted win totals. I'll dig it up tonight
I saw something like that, but now I've just seen something different:

There have been 10 teams that won less than 8 games, had a -15 turnover margin and outgained their opponents the previous season. This year those teams that qualify are the Bears and the Jags.

The next season those teams had 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 12 regular season wins, a median of 9.

4/10 made the playoffs

OMG I have my offline fantasy draft today and these movements have thrown me through the ringer.

I am going nowhere near Zeke if I get an early pick.

Need peoples opinions on the movements?

Does Watkins trade to Rams increase or worsen his value?

Jordan Matthews to Bills, is he up or down?

Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith up now?

WTF!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!

Rams acquired WR Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick from the Bills in exchange for CB E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round pick.

Whoa. Watkins was said to be in the mix for the Rams at No. 2 overall in the 2014 draft, but they opted to take mega bust LT Greg Robinson instead. With coach Sean McVay now in town, he knew he needed a legit No. 1 wideout, and Watkins is that when healthy. "When healthy" are the key words. He's missed 11 games over the past two seasons due to foot problems and is entering the final year of his contract. The Rams no longer have the ability to exercise his 2018 option after the Bills declined it earlier this offseason. However, the Rams didn't trade for a one-year rental. They'll either tag or extend Watkins. This spells doom for Tavon Austin's post-2017 tenure in L.A. For fantasy purposes, Watkins doesn't take much of a hit going from a run-dominant offense to another. He'll be Jared Goff's top wideout as a strong WR2 with upside for more if Goff takes steps forward.

In its letter explaining Zeke Elliott's six-game ban, the NFL cited Elliott's decision to expose a woman's breast on St. Patrick's Day a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

However, the league explicitly states Elliott was not disciplined for this incident as part of his six-game ban. The six-game ban is tied entirely to 2016 allegations against Elliott for domestic abuse. This is a reminder that Elliott has committed multiple violations of league policy and will remain at risk of future discipline. He absolutely must begin walking a tightened rope.

Eagles acquired CB Ronald Darby from the Bills in exchange for WR Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick.

The Eagles were clearly ready to move on from Matthews, so using him to acquire a talented, young corner with two years left on his deal looks like a no-brainer. Outstanding as a rookie, Darby had a bit of a downturn last season, but he is still easily the best corner the Eagles have on the roster and upgrades what already looked like a stout defense. If Sidney Jones is able to fully come back from his Achilles' injury, the Eagles could have a solid corner duo for years to come.

Bills acquired CB E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round pick from the Rams in exchange for WR Sammy Watkins and a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Gaines, a 2014 sixth-rounder, had a strong rookie season as a 15-game starter, but he missed all of 2015 with a Lisfranc fracture in his foot and didn't look the same last year. Coach Sean McDermott is taking a flier here in the hopes Gaines can rebound. Gaines figures to replace Ronald Darby in Buffalo after he was traded to the Eagles as part of the Jordan Matthews trade on Friday.

Bills acquired WR Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for CB Ronald Darby.

Clearly on the outs with Philly heading into the final year of his rookie deal, there had been persistent trade rumors surrounding Matthews, and the Eagles finally pulled the trigger on a deal which returns a starting corner they desperately needed. The move also works out for Matthews, who should immediately slot in as the No. 1 option for a now Sammy Watkins-less offense. Coming off the board in the 11th round before the trade, Matthews should be valued much closer to the sixth or seventh moving forward, and he has the upside for more if the new coaching staff opens up the passing game.

The NFL informed Ezekiel Elliott that "any additional violations" of the personal conduct policy "may result in your suspension or potential banishment."

It's a strong statement from the league after it discovered "substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that Elliott engaged in physical violence against Ms. Thompson on multiple occasions" in July 2016. Elliott has continued to put himself in the wrong places at the wrong times since then and is walking a dangerous path if he doesn't get his act together. Any subsequent violation will likely event in a yearlong or indefinite suspension.

--------------------------

NFL suspended Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott six games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

It's the standard benchmark for domestic violence infractions. Elliott has three days to file an appeal, which will likely happen, and then the league would have 10 days to schedule an appeal hearing. This thing could go a number of different directions, and it's possible it may drag on for months. Elliott would be able to play during the appeal process. For now, we simply have to take the stance that he's going to be out for the Cowboys' first six games, which would have him returning Week 8 (Dallas' bye is Week 6) against the Redskins. In his absence, Darren McFadden stands to be the biggest beneficiary and needs to be drafted in the early double-digit rounds of fantasy leagues at latest. Elliott will essentially be available for half the fantasy season. He needs to be significantly knocked down draft boards, likely into the third- to fourth-round range.
