The ongoing stuff for the whole of a year by a few journos is bordering on defamatory, though it get's a bit loose when it's "sources", though they aren't putting forth a scrap of other evidence.

Except of course the licence issue, which is fair game and not defamatory "coz he dun it" and it's been settled by the automated paperwork arm of the law.

That would be bloody disappointing in my view. One of the great pleasures is being able to see our intra-club game each year and cheer on the new recruits and over estimate the massive impact they are going to have on the team.

Yeah yeah RTB can do whatever he wants but that was a real highlight to me and signaled the beginning of the preseason. Feeling ripped off.

It's pretty obviously an opinion to say someone looks "Tired and emotional", which is why journalists use those words instead of "hungover". There is no way you can sue for defamation over such a phrase, because it would simply be classified as a person's honest opinion.

OTOH if Hardie had said something like "Bennell turned up at training hungover after a 5am session at the Hip-E Club" then that would be defamatory (unless it was true, of course).

Wouldn't it only be a case for the courts if it impacted his earnings? Something like sponsors pulling out/not signing him because of the public image. There needs to be an impact of the defamatory remarks. At the moment, it's just another media type talking shit selling his own agenda (and articles) with no real impact on Harley.

If Harley read the articles and it took a mental toll on him, resulting in reduced capacity to perform at the required standards - then I have no idea what happens

For now, more than happy to let RTB handle it.

Interesting when journo's asked Fyfe if he was "frustrated" with inaccurate reports that he would leave Freo, Fyfe simply said "nope - that's just what you guys write, that's part of the industry we work in" [paraphrased]. I interpret that as - I wouldn't expect anything less from you bottom feeders, but our CBA is heavily based on 24/7 media coverage, so I shouldn't bite the hand that feeds me.

Just my opinions of course. In short. Take most media with a pinch of salt. Usually trust what RTB and Steve and Fyfe say - they don't usually play games on those issues. They aren't as direct as they could be - leaving things open to interpretation, but maybe they like that!

reckon in this day and age it shouldn't be too much of a hassle for the club to livestream things like this, Collingwood even get bloody commentators in for their intraclubs.
