I should be able to sneak down Friday which is when I heard it will be. Not sure how accurate the info is, was 3rd hand information. Regardless I should be there Friday.
Where and when is it on, might try to get the kids down

Coorparoo at 8:30 is training I'm pretty sure. I could be very very wrong, I wouldn't go just on my word. Like I said it was 3rd hand information I got from someone I kind of know at training.

I would assume there would be some match simulation of sorts soon, it is about the time of the year it starts.

It seems to me we can all argue either way what Fagan meant. March can't come soon enough.

There will either be gloating from those who claim to know or this place is going to go belly up. One thing for sure is if rocky does end up being captain, I apologise to the mods in advance :p.

Meh who doesn't love a good mass deletion, board wide thread shutdown and handing out bans like skittles! Its what we power tripping mods live for!

Whoever is captain this year in all aspects will have to be above reproach.
Unfortunately or fortunately the position of captain in the AFL environment is a very highly scrutinised position and there are plenty of "experts" out there willing to offer their personal rating of the job done free of charge.
The list now looks really good with talented depth, but it's very young depth. For me, that means a leader must lead with patience, must treat others as he wants to be treated, is also professional on and off the field and is inclusive of all.
In my opinion needs to be amongst the best 4 players (or so) on the list.
Must be a clear representation of the core values of the club.
Regardless of ANY players past, those that vote must ask themselves, who is going to lead us in this way?

Dayne Beams seems to be a very inclusive person, our best player, has matured alot and is very marketable.

Injury prone, but I guess if Zorko is his 2IC, he can lead from the sidelines.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to get to training and take some pics. It's very much appreciated by those who can't get there, and helps add some context to the text-based reports that are posted in threads.

Secondly, whilst I am far from a professional photographer myself (I just like to muck around with my old camera), I would share the following:
- ditch the vignette borders; they're really only good for portraits/close ups and especially when they're applied to every shot, they lose any value
- judging by the backgrounds, you moved around a bit to get shots from different locations, which is great when you presenting a series (or album) of pics like this. I would also try different heights (if at all possible) and lenses (you can hire zoom lenses, as they are tres fun to play with for a few days)
- if you are going to use a vignette (or even if you're not, but you are presenting an album) try cropping some to add variation to the shots. Tough when you're at a venue and you can't move closer to the subjects, but it helps the pics look less same-ish as you flick through them. Take #1367 for example: the story/value in this pic is all on the right (and the light tower, transformer adds nothing) so given the resolution of the pic you could easily crop & zoom and post the edited pic, which would be more interesting, without losing quality. This also helps you play with the focus by giving more meaningful results.
- #1373/4 are awesome, because you can tell they're in-play/action, and as footy fans we can't help but imagine the before and after to the pic you have taken

Apologies for the long and detailed post; I should be working, but you have given me an excuse to distract myself for 10 mins to offer my $0.02, because I always value getting feedback myself.

Thanks again for posting all the pics :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll head down this evening again as evening shots are absolutely beautiful for footy. I'll try and keep them all in mind :D

So did anyone actually find out whether there is a match simulation this week.
And was there any training today?
I think they should do a bit more training at night, especially when they have quite a few night games coming up at the gabba this year.

Says on the website training's on 5:00 today at coorparoo. Friday training is 8:30 at Yeronga as opposed to the rest being at coorparoo, could mean they're doing something

Sometimes you use the carrot, sometimes you use the stick. He has had the stick,

CHRIS Fagan arrived early for his first press conference of the year and for a while stood alone at the side of the room, arms crossed, submerged in his own thoughts.

We suspect he might have stood in the same position many times in his long and honourable journey in AFL football.

But Tuesday was different. Instead of just staying in the shadows he had to walk behind a table full of microphones and face the bank of cameras.

LEADERSHIP: ‘FANTASTIC’ ROCKLIFF COULD RETAIN CAPTAINCY

APPAREL: LIONS LOOK MAJESTIC IN NEW DEAL

He is no longer the babysitter. It’s his baby.

The 10 minutes press conference was pretty tame stuff about the Lions new jersey deal with Majestic Athletic and Tom Rockliff’s impressive off-season but don’t worry, the big waves will rumble to shore eventually.

A man who has been a back room general is now Mr Accountable, the first and last voice, policy setter, public spruiker, buck carrier if required.

Forget game plans and recruiting. This alone is a significant challenge.

Though he was assistant coach at Melbourne between 1999 and 2007 and head of coaching and development and a general manager during Hawthorn’s decade of decadence Fagan was never the man fully exposed to the blowtorch or the bouquets. He is now.

So can he handle the leap into the searing spotlight that he has previously watched from the side of the room.

Fagan said while it was “a good question’’ he was up for the challenge, adding he had featured at press conferences where the flame throwers were firing at former Demons coach Neale Daniher “so I know what’s coming my way.’’

Leigh Matthews retired from AFL head coaching at 56. Fagan is taking it up at 55.

It would be a huge ask for a young bull like one of the Scott twins never mind a man who has reached an age where some people are accessing their superannuation.

Widely respected Fagan comes into the job with significant goodwill.

Given the choice between choosing an untried but well credentialed voice and a wily sage the Lions chose a man they feel represents both.

Tasmanian raised Fagan is a schoolteacher by trade and the Lions feel his empathy with youngsters will help him in a battling team who have much to learn.

The bar is low for him.

It’s been eight years since the Lions finished any higher than 13th so if he makes the finals in any of his three years his scrapbook will brim with tribute pieces.

The Lions are traditionally good at selling off-season optimism but its not there this year. Long-suffering supporters are simply sitting and waiting.

Expectations are low but sometimes that be the perfect time to emerge from the side of the room.
