Crows fans, talk to me..

Sauce Jacobs.

Last year was a fail. Did the drop in midfield quality (ie. no more Danger) hurt his hitouts to advantage, or was it something else? I think I read that he had an interrupted preseason last year?

Word on the street is he's having a ripping preseason now. With the Crows midfield looking the same as last year (weaver even?), can he improve his score and go back to averaging 105+?

Was he effected by 3rd man up? The rule change should help as he's a gun 1on1 ruckman

It's hard to say why but i'll have go.
He had some statistically ripping games but didn't score that well (e.g. 15d 3g 36ho 114sc, 20d 4m 37ho 81sc).
I had a look at his stats from last year compared to the previous two season (86 vs 112sc). Overall I reckon he was about 10% down for most measures (including tog due to suspected niggles), but this doesn't explain the sc difference of about 25%.
This is where it gets interesting. Last season he scored 4.9% of crow's sc ppg compared to 6.8% in 14 and 15 which is a massive difference! Less game time coupled with the improvement of those around could be the reason. I believe the new ruck rule and being injury free should improve his tog and stats to return to 14 and 15 levels, but most of those around him aren't going backwards sc wise. So relative to his teammates, I can't see him improving though. Maintain it and add 10% tog and stats, his ave sc ppg should see him good for an extra 10% which is 95-100ppg for 2017. Now this is where it get more interesting. If he can get an extra 4 hitouts to advantage pg (entirely possible with new rule and 100% fit), this will put him in the 115-120 range. Even a 5% increase in tog and stats and two extra buyouts to advantage should see him ave about 105. Should also add that he was one of the ruckmen who copped the 3rd man a lot.
Think I'll start with Sauce at that price, especially if he's having a ripping preseason. Sloane and emerging Crouch brothers are an excellent old school mid brigade so that helps too. That being said, big Maxy could go 130+!

Had a look at Big Sauce's stats for '14 '15 and '16 and the most notable difference in '16 was a drop in possessions and marks. In '14 and '15 he did a lot of work around the ground but it looks like that dropped off in '16. Maybe the game plan changed slightly and the Crows went more direct from the halfback line to forward 50? Maybe a Crows fan might know. Combine the lower disposals with a drop off in HOTA and it's easy to see why his SC scores took a hit last year. I'll be steering clear.

More stuff-

If true ROB will be the crow's ruck selected for round one. That's a good gauge of Sauce's fitness..

Barron doesn't talk out of line so I trust him, especially with the crows. I think Jacobs will line up round 1 but not do a full pre season and average low 90s.

I know its a risk but as Witts will be GC number one ruck and by all reports he is tearing up the track, do you reckon putting at the R2 is alright

Not sure if this is new or not, I certainly didn't know

"Ruckman Todd Goldstein (ankle) has been on a restricted program since Christmas, but North is confident he will be fit for round one"

Knee last year, ankle now, hmm

It's certainly known around North circles that ten dicks hasn't been training. Based on his drop off last year and him not being prime in pre season he's off my list for now.

Gawn is locked and loaded and I'm leaning towards Hickey over everyone else as R2.

BTW Preuss is coming along quite nicely, if Goldy goes down this year Preuss will generate cash.

if he scores the 95+ in JLT then it would be worth it as he has shown he can score the required points to be worthy of that spot.

im not picking him YET because he is the softest 208cm bloke ive seen play footy.

Location Geelong?

Peter Street would give him a run.

Don't do it Jords, he hasn't scored over 83 since 2014.

It's actually an interesting idea.

All lines will have rookies starting.

If you have Witts starting - just treat him as a rookie that needs to be upgraded down the track. So instead of a R2 premium it allows you to get another premium onto the park on another line. Eg. Into the mids.

I haven't been considering it, but if he was to be number 1 ruck at GCS, maybe a 75 average is possible - which should be acceptable for a rookie.

  • Ruckman Andrew Phillips has been placed on the long-term injury list and is expected to be laid low for eight weeks with a stress reaction in his left foot.
  • It looms as a later start to the season for ruckman Tom Bellchambers, who is again battling a knee injury this summer.
  • Ruckman Aaron Sandilands (calf) and young defender Alex Pearce (leg) have suffered recent injury setbacks
  • When you go to a new club you want to make a good impression straight away, and ruckman Jarrod Witts has done just that with a terrific pre-season. The former Magpie is the tallest player at the Suns, but he is also among the better runners and is honing in on being first-choice ruck.
  • While Witts has been tearing up the track, fellow ruck Tom Nicholls has struggled since sustaining a calf injury early in the pre-season
  • Ruckman Todd Goldstein (ankle) has been on a restricted program since Christmas, but North is confident he will be fit for round one
  • Ruckman Paddy Ryder hasn't missed a beat in his return to football

Thanks for the warm welcome. I enjoy my SC fantasy and I like all the banter and chat around players on here. Hope to be a somewhat helpful contributor from time to time.
