World Cup 2018 FIFA World Cup-Group C Thread (Australia, France, Peru, Denmark)

My prediction for this group is France and Denmark will go through with Australia 3rd just ahead of Peru. Australia need to snare a win and a draw at least to have any chance of going through. However, Australia can be a sneaky chance of pulling off a win against Denmark while I think they should win against Peru. So its not without some chance we could finish 2nd.

Peru are a lot better than Denmark.
Doesnt mean what you say wont come about.

See I think its the opposite for me, if you look at the names on paper and clubs they play at I think Denmark are the stronger team. Have two very good centre backs in Christensen and Kjaer, an absolute star in Eriksen (who didn't play in the Sweden draw) and a young gun in Poulsen and are fairly balanced.

Peru more of an unknown, most of their players playing in South or North america, Farfan and Carillo are good attacking players (along with captain Guerrero) but the rest of the team are fairly unknown.

We are 1 clinical finisher away from having a team that could upset some big nations. We can't create the 8-10 chances we need to score 1 or 2 goals.

France are clearly the best team here, Denmark while better than us aren't unbeatable and Peru similar, Our scoring ability is what hurts us against these teams. If we can get a ref that allows us to be a little more physical than these teams are used to, Then that will go a long way to helping us scrape through.

I love it how we somehow end up with 7,11,12 in the world in our group.
We do get drawn some hard groups. 2006 wasn't easy, but not the hardest. I'd say tricky. Japan were out our level or a little below, Croatia were out of sorts and of course the big one world champion Brazil. I had us going through all along.

2010 was harder. Germany like Brazil in 06 was set to go through and almost certainly in top spot. Serbia and Ghana were difficult. Even after all of that we could have progressed but that Kewell pen and red card.

2014 forget about it. World Champions and b2b euro winners Spain, Holland the runner up from 2010 and Chile. A team that would win the Copa America a year later and defend it a year after that. The Dutch were a penalty shootout away from advancing to the world cup final. We led and pushed them to the brink.

This group is hard but not like the previous 2 years. Peru and Denmark are beatable. Especially Denmark, what is so good about them? I'm not tipping us to advance but it's not like we were dealt some harsh hand this time around. Denmark didn't qualify for the last two tournaments, 1st round exit in 2010 and again failed to qualify for the previous 2 tournaments before that one. Finished 5 points off Poland to get to Russia.

Tough one this year, my two nations playing the same group. I hope Australia can make it out of the group stage and France can win the cup.

Or the other way around.

Happy either way.:)

Holy shit I though first it was a piss take or it was a different Farfan. Jefferson Farfan that played for PSV and I think went to Bayern after that. In any case absolutely astounded it's the same one.

I'm not knocking Peru but they really only just got over NZ and weren't very convincing. To get a gauge on just how good a team is, you really got to look at how many players play in the top 5 leagues in the world. Yes the South and North American Leagues are better than the A-League by a fair bit but it's countered by the amount of Aussies that play in Europe. We will just have to see but I think the Aussie side can beat Peru and really push Denmark if not beat them. Its the good thing about Soccer. It's prone to upsets

I just worry that heavy defeats to France and Denmark will destroy our confidence going into the Peru game, where we could be a chance.
I could give a **** about the Peru game should we suffer heavy defeats in the first two. By that stage we would have been eliminated. The only thing that matters is to make the second round. Winning a meaningless game is exactly that. Meaningless.

No such thing as a meaningless game at the World Cup. Chance for many of our players to get noticed by European clubs if anything...

You'd rather come back home with a point or three rather than a big fat 0.

At the 2006 WC, Ivory Coast played a "meaningless" game against Serbia and Montenegro. That meaningless game ended up being their first ever win at a world cup (coming back from 0-2 down)

That's incorrect. Iceland knocking off England last euro destroys that argument about the top 5 leagues in the world.

As for Peru just getting past NewZealand they won by 2 at home and drew away. They were never in any danger of missing out. France lost to Bulgaria in qualifying and drew to minnows Luxembourg at home. So are these sides better or equal to France? Going off one of two games in football is foolish because the best sides lose or draw with so called minnows.

We could very well beat Peru but these reasons mentioned are quite ridiculous.

Also A lot of Argentinas players also ply their trade domestically. That's not a top 5 league in the world.
