59 - 2

Love the look of Youngy. This is just a fun format but it's still good to see our younger plays with the ball in hand all game.

59-2 at halftime. Commentators are completely clueless!! KK in headgear and playing a great game. Aaron Young and Sam Day taking marks at will. Bowes just grubbered a goal from a tight angle and the commentators thought it was Lemmens. Jesse Joyce outstanding.

BT 'Was that Bowels?'

I have never witnessed such terrible commentating in my life. And it was Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw and Heath Shaw, so you'd expect a high standard. That effort was an embarrassment to Channel 7 and the AFL! They didn't even know what the X in AFLX stood for. AFL Express, derr. Mixing up Lemmens and Bowes made it obvious they were just guessing.

On the footy itself, Scheer has filled out and showed a few things. Day was clearly relishing being back on the field, Young looks hungry for success, Joyce and KK were cucumber cool under pressure, and Touk didn't have to do much though what he did do was all class.

Update: Channel 7 just decided to can the commentary for 5 minutes of the Lions vs Giants game, instead showing Heath Shaw doing a terrible job of interviewing GWS players who aren't even playing. What about the game? Do they seriously think we want to listen to this drivel?

they are effectively commenting a training drill. I don’t think they give a rats ass

BT mixes up our players all the time. Been doing it for years with players like Hall and Matt Shaw. He is a dill.

Jennifer Phelan is writing the AFLX blog on afl.com.au and she only wrote one thing about the Suns - "Great goal by Jack Bowers (wft?) would have been a Super Goal but it bounced" Apart from wrong spelling, she obviously didn't watch the game because they play never happened - Bowes kicked his goal from about 30m on a super tight angle. Great goal, but never a chance for 10pts

4 changes - winner plays the Lions

Bowes just showing some glimpses of class. Looks to have put on a bit more size too.
More than glimpses, I thought. Because of the pace and wild camera switches, it was often hard to see who was involved in the play (commentators were actually a distraction), but I thought Bowes was involved a lot and you're right about class. Young was missed in the 2nd game, but Holman did a lot for his case (even if the refs never seemed to rule in his favour).
Some guys just demonstrated that they are not quite at AFL standard and that another year in NEAFL is certain, then they might be finding themselves out of the system altogether without improvement - Schoenfeld and Willis were just making up the numbers and Darcy Mac didn't make the most of his opportunities.
Sexton laid the biggest tackle of the tournament and showed the hardness at the footy that you wish every player would show when they get beaten in the initial contest - did a lot to cement his place in the 22 in my opinion.

And now look at what Brisbane are doing to the Ugly Ducks. Good grief-this is pretty concerning.
This is a kick and giggle. Lions team is pretty stacked and Sydney had to play back to back with a relatively weaker team. Winning in this means nothing.

On another topic, was happy with the way Bowes played tbh. Looked pretty good.

Fair enough re Brisbane...my main concern was how ordinary we were against the Ugly Ducks squad.

Idea for future AFLX-

Play 6 round robins between 3 clubs in 6 cities
3 games each team
15 minute halves
Send the 6 winning teams to a host final city, playing the same format as 2018
Proper GF between 2 best teams
Have a longer break between games, maybe even a band before the GF
Make teams send a uniform number of players

Bit harsh. Sydney were playing with a proper break between games and had a fair few bounces and calls go their way. With more accurate kicking in the first half and less panic coming out of defence in the 2nd half and the game would have been closer. Sydney chose a team to win and their assistant coaches devised some brilliant tactics. Dean Towers was brilliant.
