2018 Or 2022 Fifa World Cup Affecting The AFL Season?

1. It's an oval ground - that fact doesn't eliminate it on its own but it doesn't help
2. It's been stated publicly that it is not FIFA compliant (due to its size, and the angle of the seating tiers)
3. It's owned by SANFL.
4. Adelaide United's current home, Hindmarsh Stadium, is too small so there is demand for a larger rectangular venue in Adelaide.
5. Adelaide Oval is slightly smaller and have announced plans to upgrade to 55k - so in the unlikely event an existing venue had to be used, it would be AO.

The other thing is, there is no such thing as a WC match that won't draw large crowds. Virtually every match is a sellout. Ukraine v Tunisia sold out the 72k capacity Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Togo v Switzerland sold out the 67k capacity Dortmund stadium. The lowest attended match was something like 37k in a 43k stadium.

We won't get the world cup anyway but..

There is a snowballs chance in hell of much more being done to AAMI or having a new rectangle stadium for maybe 3 or 4 games in a once off deal, Adelaide united rarely fill hindmarsh.

If Adelaide was serious about a new stadium being built for a world cup they would have started planning/development already.
