Much as I would like to, I just can't see Keays being part of a Lion's premiership. Yes, hard worker and good endurance, but just no standout feature. If he had the inside game to thrive on just that we would have seen enough of it in the games he has played. Depth and good clubman, but blokes like Bailey, Cox etc will surpass him, IMO.
Richard Hadley. Tim Notting. Bushy Copeland. Aaron Shattock. Hardly a list of 'A' Graders there. And that's without looking at other teams.
Besides that flaw in the argument/turn of phrase, I'm still hopeful he will develop into a 'good' footballer.

Has there ever been a Premiership team full of 'A' graders?
Never. And never will be.

Your seemingly personal vendetta against Ben Keays is starting to get a little weird now.

At least spell his name properly?

Kid isn't going to win a brownlow but as already aforementioned, hes extremely fit, bleeds for the club, does the team things and is well liked. Sounds a bit like the vice captain they call Ryan Lester.....
Personal vendetta, that would suggest I know him personally or he has done something to upset me personally so no clearly not the case.

Not sure how not rating a footballer is weird so feel free to elaborate.

So we pick teams on people that are fit, well liked and bleed for the club do we. Here's silly old me thinking we pick teams on people who influence football games giving the lions the best chance of winning the game. Can't believe I have had it wrong this whole time.

Maybe you can put together your best 22 containing fit, well liked 'bleeders'.

He's definitely shown some decent ability at the NEAFL level. He's too good for that, and I feel like it's not necessarily just being in the awkward space between levels. He panics a bit in the seniors, but I think that's mostly between his ears. The defensive forward role he's mostly played is not a natural position for him, but we've seen him take what he's learnt doing that to improve his midfield game at the NEAFL level.

He's still very young and has plenty of time to make it.

I think the defensive forward position is a horrible concept but it suits the player Keays is now. His only above average skill would be his intensity around the footy

Didn't rate his handpassing last year?

I think the defensive forward and offensive defender positions are here to stay. I kinda like them. I think it keeps the game flowing and makes mistakes in the forward line more exciting/ nerve wracking depending on whose forward 50 it is of course.

I'd rather forwards who were dangerous forcing opponents to play tight instead of a dead weight forward who tails his defender around.

I guess someone who can do both is the preference which is why Mitch Robinson started down there last season.

I don’t rate him until he gives me a reason to. This year will probably be that year, works too hard not to start showing something more.

And it would be silly for him not to start there again this year.

Talk on Keays is kinda silly. He is still a young developing player. Making a definitive call about his ability and future, one way or the other, at this point in his career is rubbish. It is fine to state your opinion and discuss why, but you cant deny someone else their opinion or say they are wrong on a player who has barely started their career.

Keays has shown enough to this point that i dont believe you can write him off. Is he going to be the next Aker or Black, unlikely. But the kid has talent, and if he can complement the kids that are our next Aker and Black the same way the likes of Notting and Copeland did, there is no reason he cant be in our next premiership team.

That's nice in theory but it's a rare side with five dangerous forwards, small and tall.

Keays might still be developing but it's hard to see him getting ahead of Berry and Clugg both drafted the following year and it looks likely that Rayner and Bailey will surpass him. That's 3 or 4 younger midfielders that you'd expect to be better than him. Ignoring those we'll bring in and anyone older than him he's already struggling to be a starting midfielder.

Obvious example is the Crows but I understand they're the exception. But not many clubs play defensive forwards that offer little offensively.

Nothing makes me want to see a player succeed more than when they become the whipping boy for irrational, lunatic supporters.
I'm still hoping Brennan will prove everyone wrong...

Who do you think will be a better footballer?
Ask that question in five years once they’ve had a chance to show off their full skill set.

At the age of 18 recruiters obviously thought there were 30 odd better players than Dayne Beams. Would’ve been over a hundred that were considered to be better footballers than Dayne Zorko. Way too early to make that call
