Does anyone have any insight into what's happening with Shane Kersen? He just seems to be pounding out lap after lap and also doing lots of repeat 100m running. He doesn't look injured, so I'm wondering if they have targeted a new role for him, maybe as a big bodied midfielder / running half forward. His preseason remind me a lot of Lachie Neale's first where they just pounded lots of kilometres into his legs.

Last year I thought he showed good skills but didn't get to enough contests, with his foot skills maybe they see him as a good running link up player?

Would be interested in others' opinions.

His best games for Freo he pushed up the ground even to the half back line and doubling back to spring a few goals on the turnover. The Richmond game at the G comes to mind. I remember him doing this to good effect with Geelong in 2016.

Maybe they want his tank increased again so that he can push up and roam to HF/ centre and run his man ragged.

Kersten is super quick on the burst, in a straight line but I agree with you that he didn't seem to have multiple efforts or sustained running in him last season.

If he is able to run his man to the wing there won't be many who could keep with him back to goal, let alone beat him.

why for Bennell's benefit? looks like an indigenous player dinner, similar to what Port Adelaide to regularly.
Matera being indigenous would make sense he was there regardless of Bennell

My bad , I Didn’t realise Matera was indigenous. Just thought it might have been a get together with fremantle players for Harley.

I got told he was near the last in the first 2km run. Has been building fitness ever since. Personally I think he looks a heap better now. Im much more of a fan of Shane than most on here. If he could get better at repeat leading I think he will surprise many on here. His pace and foot skills are actually outstanding.

Building the tank and running more might diminish those foot skills.

Can we read anything into Brayshaw moving his digs from Fyfe to Neale? Noticed Fyfe referred first to Cerra, North and Crowden the other day in the interview. At the time thought he was going out of his way not to favour his housemate.

Not meaning to create a conspiracy theory - at the end of the day you click with who you click with!

Fyfe's already done his work on Brayshaw, getting him to sign an extension. He's working on Cerra now.

Logue was getting jealous

Went today for a short while, but the girls started getting bored pretty quickly so wasn't able to pay great attention. Not much to say that hasn't been said over the course of the preseason so far.

Watching Son Son put on a clinic today. Kicking bullets off both feet in the drills and again in the match sims. Absolute class.

Sandi looks in absolute ripping condition. As others have said previously in quite a few of the drills he was purposely not marking the ball, just palming it down for others to crumb. Hopefully it's just to practice handling a loose ball and not a tactic.

From what I saw though Ballas took the honours for best kick of the day. In one of the match sims he kicked a 40m worm burner down centre corridor.

Logue looks massive, absolute bull. Showed some great agility and closing down speed. Missed a few handballs in the pressure drills but causes a few others to miss aswell.

Brady Grey missed a few kicks in the sims but also took a nice mark. The only time I spotted Banfield for the day was when he tackled Grey. Grey managed to keep his feet but Banfield kept up the contact and wrestled Grey over the line. Both got quite fired up over it.

Really liked the look of Crowden, saw him shake a few tackles. Such a low centre of gravity and a solid core/legs, you could tell the other where finding it hard to get a proper hold of him. He showed off his speed in the full length transition drills aswell, looks quick.

Someone in purple boots did quite a few impressive things but I couldn't make them out from where I was. Gut running to take a mark in front of a small pack and a few lovely kicks to advantage. Any other watchers know who?

Meek looks bigger than Darcy did last year. Already quite a muscular frame. Decent speed/skills for a big man. Needs to work on his positioning though. Hale out-positioned him quite a few times to get first hands on the ball.

Fyfe is back to 2015 Fyfe.

Tabs looks massive, pounding out the laps with Nyhuis at an impressive pace. No strapping on the knee but looked a little proppy.

TTHD award = Walters without a doubt.

the afl site has done their preseason video on Fremantle, it's a chat with Anthony Rock

Definitely a few interesting points. The video mentions Fyfe playing more forward. For what it is worth Fyfe has spent much more time playing as our deepest player in drills in the training I have seen this year. He looks a ton more dangerous in terms of his ability to kick goals (in training that is) when he starts deeper and then leads towards the ball carrier as opposed to playing as a midfielder and pushing forward. Nat is a natural forward who leads brilliantly. If he plays the way he trains I could see Fyfe starting in every centre bounce (when on the ground obviously he needs some rest to) and then pushing forward to play as a forward player who leads towards the ball. At same time Neale/Walters/S.hill could rotate playing a role where they start outside the centre square, but then swap roles and play midfield after the centre bounce is completed. Id like to see Fyfe play a role similar to how James Hird played. His biggest strength as a forward would be that if a taller key position player mans him he could go on long leads and run the player into the ground, while if a tall midfield player mans him he pushes deep and becomes our primary marking target. Either way he is super dangerous.

Interesting re Logue today from a guy I know. He played footy with him and said Logue has very little footy IQ and had to tell him what to do a fair bit on the field for Guilford

I'm in no way bagging Logue out just repeating what I heard. I personally have little doubt he'll continue to develop

My understanding is that Logue was a rower and basketballer who became a footballer in his mid teens. That would explain his lack of footy nous.
