Football is an extremely basic game that has been over complicated more and more over time. It's a point as old as the game itself, but if you can do the basics better than your opposition, it will go a long way to winning the match!

The teams biggest issue, which is perhaps the most important in the game, is their skills. If they continue to use the ball as they have been, we will continue to see massive losses and/or uncompetitive scores, regardess of what structures are set!

Skills can produce or relieve pressure, be the difference between in a goal or a point and ultimately, winning or losing!

I believe our recruiting focus has shifted to address this issue. Hopefully it pays off.

One of the really pleasing things I take out of these reports is the fitness of the list. Only 7 players didn't play in Ballantyne, Darcy, S.Hill, Switkowski, Jones, Stradinica and Bennell

Obviously Bennell is at Peel. Any insights into any of the others?

Ballaz did a heap of running in the blazing sun at Optus today - by himself before the mens "training" session.

Didn't appear hampered. Maybe he's been unwell? Or a really minor niggle?

any Ryan reports? Asking for Fantasy
You could do a lot worse in your back six , Has gone up a bit in price , But we believe he has more upside.
Luke Ryan - Toss up for mine between him and Wilson who will be the most damaging backman. Both great penetrating kicks and both make good decisions, but for min eluke gets the nod because he is an elite intercept mark. Out defence is shaping up really, really well.
About sums it up

In good shape and pretty sure he posted so good time trial numbers. He'll play when fit and not a naughty boy. Comfortably best 22.

Could go anywhere from 75-110 depending on his role, but I personally think he is good for 85-95. I think Blakely will steal points when in defense which is why I am hesitant to pick him up. Is definitely a scorer though since he is one of our best kicks, takes kick ins, takes intercept marks and plays for a team that likes to switch in defense.

Totally agree with this , And for that reason is in a mix of 8 for for my final back six .He takes kick ins but seldom kicks to himself , So that's a consideration .

Chatted up my daughter in Freo a couple of weeks ago. Told her she was pretty and bought her a drink (bottle of water). She pretended she had no clue he was a Freo player, even though she recognised him immediately. He was very polite and very good-looking, according to her. But remains just a fantasy, but not sure whether that's for him or for her. She's very well-known for playing hard-to-get.

Must be tough being a young bloke these days! Even being handsome, fit, well mannered and having way more scratch than the average young bloke still isn't enough to get you a start.

Did he actually tell her he was an AFL player IP?

I think this is an important detail to judge whether he's suitable son-in-law material for you.

This is the way footy was played till probably the eighties? Adding more interchange players. Sheedy had to devise
a style to defeat the Hawks.
The difference with Kevin is that he was always reinventing himself, the team, and found quality assistants. There is
also a rumour that he used some of Neesham's style in the 2000 season.
Sure he lost plenty of grand finals, but the key to his success was never standing still, his teams were a mix of skill
and brawn.
Something we could learn from, and why the Hawks still have the wood on us.

It has but we still need to develop the players skills when they get to the club. Hopefully we're putting enough time, effort and resources into this. We haven't in the past.

Could only be Hale if we have one. All the others have either been around for years without success or are a long way down the pecking order within our ranks.
Hardwick was going nowhere without the quality of his assistants, and Bulldogs beforehand hired former Cat players.
Have spoken to Joel Corey on a few occasions, ripper bloke, shuns the spotlight, just rolls the sleeves up and gets on
with it, same way he played.
Sheedy definately left his mark on AFL, same with Clarkson now.

Neesham was 10 years ahead of his time with little more than a really good WAFL squad at his disposal.
He was and still is the indigenous footballers champion..... Sheedy a close second.
Gerard was hugely underrated as a coach.....as far as a recruiter in years 2 - 4, I don’t want to judge.

I highly doubt that. Just because somebody is **** at something doesn't mean they don't try not to be. Any team is limited by the capabilities of the players they have. Fair to say we had a LOT of limited players in the 2012-2016 era, especially in terms of footskills.

Even with more gifted users it takes time for those players to gel. Happens in every team sport. You need to understand how and where your teammates will run to otherwise your pinpoint pass will go to the wrong spot.

If you watch Crows footage from 14/15 they couldn't kick for ****. Largely the same players finished 2nd this year and at their best moved the ball extremely well.

Oh I play keeper draft leagues too. So you think he has a big couple of years ahead of him? Cheers

Me personally? I think he has multiple AA written all over him. He is a gun intercept mark, is good defensively at ground level and has an accurate and penetrating kick.

Would be up with Blakely as our best young player IMO.
