Prediction 2018 Rising Star

Nah, people just get caught up in hype. Jaidyn wouldn't have got votes most rounds, he's had some stinkers. But he's had a run of good games, so all of a sudden he's on top. Pies are due to play some decent teams soon, so we'll get a better idea then.

Does it really matter? Who really cares if Ollie wins the RS? Isn't it more important he's playing good football for us? Florent wouldn't give two hoots about a Rising Star award.

It isnt the Brownlow medal but im sure he got votes against the crows kicking 5 against last years runners up that have two all-australian backman in Laird and Talia in it plus Kelly, Hartigan, Brown, Atkins, Mckay and Gibbs. Not bad for a teenager 12 kilos under weight who is just average that shouldn't be hyped playing against experienced heavier men. :drunk:

What are you on about? I never mentioned Florent.

So because its not a swans player favorite to win your crying wolf using the melbourne Victoria media excuse. No point whinging about it because you have won the rising star award three times with Adam Goodes 1999, Dan Hannebery 2010 and 2016 winner Callum Mills. Jaidyn deserves to win this award fair and square being the first collingwood player to do so. http://m.afl.com.au/news/event-news/nab-afl-rising-star/history

No, he would be very deserving and is rightfully the favourite at this point. But to call it over now is ridiculous and is a reflection on Melbourne media sensationalism.

Its wide open that's why. There is no real standout this year. Doedee would have to be leading it. Stephenson up there, and I wouldn't rule out Fritsch making a late run at it. He wouldn't be too far off. Dow and Cerra still well placed. Its anyone's award. I would have Doedee out in front.

He'll be a deserving winner if he does win but not sure what history of winners has to do with anything really.
Think we have most brownlows also, that mean we can't have another?

Happy to see DOW winning a nomination. Seems to be adjusting nicely to AFL after a tough initiation.

As of now, I’d have the following top 3:

1. Stephenson (x factor)
2. Florent (classy)
3. Doedee (consistent)

Honourable mentions to:
Richards (like him a lot)
Fritsch (consistent)

Dow, brayshaw & Cerra building nicely.

Pretty good draft..

Had a quietish start, but wouldn't classify many games of his as stinkers at all. Some of his better performances this year have come against stronger sides.

Been held goalless once since 4 playing as a third tall forward (and FF at times). From round 4 onward, he has averaged 2.6 goals a game. Star forwards like Hogan, Riewoldt, Caddy, Breust among others have averaged less than that per game across the season.

Pretty impressive for a first year forward & is 10 game span, so there's no reason why that can't continue for the remainder of the year. If it does, I wouldn't expect the result to be very close at all.

Stephenson up there, and I wouldn't rule out Fritsch making a late run at it.

Too old, just missed the cut off. Would be very close to Stephenson for the best first year player award, if that existed, but that's a different argument..

After round 4 eh? Why choose that start? He's averaging 1.6 goals per game this season.

If you look at the stats, he's actually getting beaten on most important ones by Ben Ronke (goals, disposals, tackles, inside 50's, contested possessions and m gained), but no-one in their right mind has him in the conversation.

You can't just count his good games. You have to count his 6 disposal, 0.0 game vs Carlton in Round 3, and his 5 disposal game vs the Dockers, along with quite a few other average performances. He's a good player, but to say "the result won't be close at all" is pretty ridiculous.

Its over....... No need to keep eating sour grapes over this award.

That’s a fairly spurious argument. The poster used his form line over the last 10 games, and said ‘if that continues’ the result won’t be close. If he replicates that form over the final 10, even considering his slowish start, who gets close? It’s hardly a ‘ridulous’ statement. Fairly obvious I would have thought.

Funny how some fans get so worked up about a meaningless award. Often won by a man child who in hindsight is rarely the best player from their draft year. That includes two Lions players Rich & Taylor. Counted about six from 1993 that were indisputable such as Buckley and Nick R.

If Florent played in Victoria the media hype would be akin to Stephenson easily, cant help the thought that being out of sight out of mind might hurt him.

That being said Stephenson has been impressive in a good team and is the leader at the moment but Florent and Cerra are coming with a bullet.

Witherden at one stage was the huge favourite and you don't get more out of sight out of mind then the Lions.

Didn’t hurt Callum mills..
or Dan Hannebery, Jaeger O'Meara and Brisbanes Lewis Taylor

As I said... the last 10 games. Not unreasonable to think a skinny kid takes a few games to find his feet.

Higgins should get a nomination this week. Been good in the midfield
Will be up there after 20 touches, but there's plenty of kids that have been deserving still yet to play this week

Cerra
Rayner
Brayshaw
Naughton
L.Fogarty
Lipinski
Marshall
D.Fogarty
Ballard
Spargo
Battle
