he could get 70 touches and it wouldnt matter.

he's finished as an AFL footballer.

not sure why you'd want him in tbh.
.
Strange post. Tongue in cheek?

Maybe because he's a ball magnet, has invaluable experience, is a fantastic and popular leader, strong body and a proven performer week after week. Suns REALLY needed him today.

..
.. All worked for Sharks, Boston sure looks good.
Gee Bostons skills are still unreal. Wish he could of pulled his head in at the suns
If only Boston wanted to be an AFL player, he could have so easily have had it. I guess some guys are happy being the big fish in the pond and just turn up to train a few times a week.

Excerpts from your comments during the game...
So who stopped this amazing player .. the current leader in NEAFL MVP.
Hint: He had 16 disposals , to Boston's 4 after going on to him at half time.
Like most of you I was also impressed with Powell Greenwool and Crossley etc ..
But those that do the heavy lifting aren't noticed by TV and TV commentators....
How many noticed Barlows 40+ disposals..?

I am not trying to troll. It wasn't meant as tongue in cheek. He's cooked at AFL level these days. Playing him doesnt move you forward.

Lyons on the other hand......he should be playing.

From my observations at yesterdays NEAFL game - Barlow is a leader and still a very good player. Has me thinking its his choice to play at the lower level. (He may have been told he won't get another contract so he's happy to captain the guys in the 2's -which he is excelling in).
From the weekend Lyons is deflated , played with no commitment. Seems a player that survives on support (which by his dropping he doesn't have) - thinking the Adelaide 'sub' vest has scarred him - he just wants to play - injured or otherwise.

Barlow will be a good playing assistant coach , hopefully GCS is the club that make the offer .

It's definitely not Barlow's choice to play in the neafl he hates it and he's said that in a few interview this year here one of them

MICHAEL Barlow has revealed his absence from the AFL early in the season had him doubting his future at the Suns.

But his call up for Gold Coast’s 16.14 (110) to 9.8 (62) loss to Adelaide has the 30-year-old, who is out of contract this year, confident he can play on beyond 2018.

Barlow fought his way back from a second broken leg, suffered while playing against Carlton in Round 13 last season.

The Suns leader recovered and regained his fitness but was overlooked for the club’s first five games of the AFL season despite his form in the NEAFL.

“I was really keen to play but I respected the match committee’s calls,” Barlow said.

“I sucked up the pride a bit and dug in for the greater good.

“I feel I validated my form. I had moments where I was a bit frustrated and disappointed but that was on the back of performing at the lower level.

“You can have self-doubt on where you are at and what the future holds.

“Subconsciously (the contract) always pops in to your mind.

“The only time I have been out of contract in my career was when I finished up at Fremantle (in 2016).”

Barlow recorded 23 disposals and kicked a goal in the Suns loss at Adelaide Oval on Saturday in what was a disappointing performance by most of the side.

But Barlow’s ability to resurrect his career again has the elite runner believing he has multiple years at the top level still left in him.

“I want to do it and I have the drive to do it,” Barlow said.

“To test yourself against the best and know you still have the ability in your own mind, that is where I’m at.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I want to play as well as I can, prepare as well as I can and then whatever will be will be. “I’m a big believer that things will turn out if you put the work in and I’m feeling like I’m capable of continuing to play, which I do.

“It might be different in six or seven weeks’ time or 14 to 16 weeks down the track.”

Sticking to my belief Barlow knows he is finished as an AFL footballer - by his own choice or otherwise. That said he is an inspirational leader for our NEAFL team. He's doing it by numbers and by voice. If injury circumstances improve - it's likely he can lead Suns to an first NEAFL premiership.
Yes , I saw deboer win it with Peel Thunder , would love to see Barlow win it with GC .

Oh so NOT playing him does move GC forward? We saw the evidence of that this weekend when inexperienced kids were swamped by a ruthless Cats machine led by one 34 year old G Ablett.

Your post is strange because you're an Essendon supporter and provide not the slightest reasoning or evidence to support your theory. Why would you even bother to post that?

3 nice goals by Crossley starting at 2:25 followed by some magic from Greenwool and a goal then Greenwool with some quick thinking to give schoenfeld a goal

Then at 6:00 Wil Powell with a nice contested mark turns on the afterburners runs about 100m handballs over the top to Greenwool who runs into an open goal

Correct. Need to get games into the kids, just like Freo is doing.

We've seen Barlow play AFL lately, the game has moved past him. Not a stunning revelation i'd have thought.

Barlow would not have made one bit of difference on the weekend.

Lyons should not have been dropped. Terrible MC decision.

So true. Minus dodgy ankles and much better character.

He's gonna keep forcing way in with games like this over the next couple years til he's a regular. Not sure how we fit Lynch, Wright and Crossley though. Day is decent but he doesn't have the mongrel to be selected over Crossley once he's fully developed I reckon.

For some reason, Dew has been sending in undersized teams all year and the results haven't been flattering. There is no reason why Lynch, Wright, Day and Crossley can't remain on the list or even in the same side. Throw in Witts, Thompson and Leslie and you've got a side that can man up on West Coast's talls with May loose and Nicholls in reserve. At the moment Lynch is half-fit, Wright coming back from injury, Crossley's a rookie, May's injured and Nicholls is out for the season, so they appear to have given 2MP a solid run through the ruck and played Goober one out in the goalsquare.

In Day's defence, he's 9 games returned from a 12 month injury that he's lucky to have recovered this far from. He will improve in increments, have a solid offseason and come back next season with overall better fitness and touch. Don't give up on Daysie.

Of course, with Lynch going the succession becomes much clearer, especially with the Academy talent coming through with Graham, Koenen and Gilmore all measuring 194/5cm, as well as Scrimshaw and Ballard joining May in that height category. By 2020, the Suns could actually be the tallest team in the comp and leading the contested marking leaderboard.
