2019 Draft

My understanding is Baker, Pickett and Stack have been contracted. What im not sure about is if that means they are now on the list proper or they have been given new rookie contracts. Iassume its the former.

D-E-S rookie contract runs out 2019 so what do we do with him? rerookie or promote to list proper, If they can id say they will rerookie him but imo hes done/shown enough to get a spot on the list proper.

Chol is rookie contracted i believe until 2021.

Do we need at least 3 delistings from the list proper just to fit in Stack, Pickett, Baker?.

Those that are gone and those that remain uncontracted
Grigg, Ellis, Butler are gone Menadue, Moore, Miller on the list proper being uncontracted i reckon all are gone.
Weller, Aarts and Townsend are the rookies whose contracts are up with Weller gone.I wonder what we will do with Aarts and Townsend.

As i have said im all over the place about this and not sure what we have to do. If we do promote the 3 rookies that means 3 nd picks are used up 74/76/94??? which would leave picks 19 38 39 41 56 in the nd and 3 or 4 rookie picks.
Baker Stack and Chol are all signed until 2021, which means they go on to the senior list as rookies can't sign multi year deals as far as I can see. Pickett has signed a contract for next year which I believe kept him on the rookie list instead of the list proper.

I just hope we draft the best available. If we need a key defender in a few years time just trade one in. The last thing we want to do is be tempted into reaching for some average tall and miss out on a gun mid.

Talls are much easier to develop. Some of the best tall/intercept defenders in the comp were not high draft picks:

Dylan Grimes - PSD (pick 2)
Nathan Broad - ND (pick 67)
Jeremy McGovern - RD (pick 44)
Harris Andrews - ND (pick 61)
Alex Pearce - ND (pick 34)
Mark Blicavs - RD (pick 54)
James Sicily - ND (pick 56)
Tom Jonas - RD (pick 16)
Dane Rampe - RD (pick 37)
Easton Wood - ND (pick 43)
Tom Stewart - ND (pick 40)
Tom Langdon - ND (pick 65)
Cale Hooker - ND (pick 54)

Yes exactly, don't use high picks on defenders. Midfielders are safest choice for the first round. Forwards usually need a lot of talent to make it, but even the talented ones are more risky as the transition of a forward's skills to the AFL is more of an unknown.

The players that I would be rapt if the Tigers were able to get some of them would be:

Josh Worrell, Elijah Taylor, Mitch O’Neill, Kysiah Pickett, Deven Robertson, Cooper Stephens, Harrison Jones, Jay Rantall and Sam Philp.

Think Soldo is already on the main list.

Why you would upgrade DES early as Next Generation Academy payments are outside the cap so there is a big benefit to keeping him there. An extra player on your list.

Upgrade him when he’s ready for a main spot list. I’m saying you wouldn’t max out his time as a cat b rookie then put him on the normal rookie list for a few years just cos you can.

I’m more than happy to stand corrected but I’m under the assumption that whenever a rookie listed player signs on for more than one season they then have to be elevated to the senior list.

Agree. He's shown nothing at all. Wouldn't even re-rookie
Miller was good in his first year and held down full back pretty well for an 18yr old. Had quite a lot of injuries this year but was thrown all over the park during games. Full back one half, CHF a quarter. There was one game against Port M. where he looked like a real CHF in the making, led, marked and kicked goals. Next game back at FB. He is very quick and agile for his size, reminds me of a more mobile Jenkins. I would love to see him at CHF and stay there, because he has so many AFL attributes.

Hope so just a worry seeing a bloke consistently with 3-4p most weeks , generally a sign they’re battling at the level

Pick 19 - Sam De Koning 200cm 85kg KPD

Was the 2019 U18 AA full back and would be a great addition to the list as a long term replacement for Astbury.

Pick 38 - Dyson Hilder 196cm 91kg KPD

We've picked a couple of South Australian captains in recent years and while Hilder wasn't their captain he was a vice captain. By adding him along with De Koning we give ourselves a couple of genuine KPD kids to develop.

Pick 39 - Darcy Cassar 184cm 82kg Defender
A high possession accumulator across HB who averaged 23 disposals 5 marks 5 R50s a game for Western Jets this year projects as a potential Houli replacement down the track with his run and carry

Pick 41 - Sam Philp 185cm 80kg Inside Mid
With Graham Ross & RCD we have a nice group of young inside mids and Philp would slot in nicely with them. Averaged 23 disposals 6 clearances & 6 tackles

Pick 56 - Brock Smith 188cm 81kg Defender
First thing I read about him, "Every team needs a reliable defender and leader who will not leave anything out on the park and bleed for the jumper" and the first thing that sprung to mind is this is what Vlastuin and Grimes' son would be if they were able to have children. His testing results will see him available late in the draft and I'd love to swoop at 56.

For mine this would be an ideal result from the draft. 2 young KPDs, a couple of young defenders and another strong inside midfielder to add to the list.

This is amazing work. Great job. Hopefully we get close to something like this. Appricate this analysis.

Best available at pick 19, whatever pos. they may be. I'm a firm believer you don't pass up on quality in the first round to fill gaps. Then with the later picks, stack up on KPP which are much more likely to be late bloomers so a better chance of finding gold.

This goes against the grain of not investing early picks on key defenders

If we have the chance to pick up the U18 AA FB, then we should take it

hopefully freo wanna do a deal for their pick 22, there's a couple players around 19 and 22 that i'd like
They will want to trade pick #22 as their academy kid looks like getting a bid between 15-20
38+41 for 22 would be fantastic

Then we could trade with the hawks
37+56 for pick 30

19+22+30

#19 - Sam Dekoning
#22 - Cooper Stephens
#30 - Trent Rivers

Elijah Hollands is tracking very nicely up here...But with 8 games, his Dad Ben didn’t quite get to 100...
Next years draft. Looking like a top 5 pick next year.

Throw Port at 29 in the mix as well with Jackson Mead.

Going to be interesting to see what happens.

Someone suggested we could delist Menadue which allows Fremantle to take him as a delisted free agent and they then do the trade of 22 to us. That would surely raise some eyebrows among opposition clubs and fans.

Menadue is a kid I'm torn on. Part of me wants to see him retained and push to claim Ellis' wing position as I reckon he could be a excellent option in that role, while part of me says after 5 years maybe it's time to let him go and move on to another kid coming through.

As I posted last night we could get some pretty handy players at 19 38 39 41 & 56 if we hold our picks and move on Menadue Miller & Moore, but the idea of trading up to get 2 more picks inside 30 sounds good as well and we could then retain Menadue & Miller

Tigers 2020 List.png

This is our list if we delist Menadue Miller & Moore with Aarts DES & Pickett as rookies. It would allow us to take picks 19 38 39 41 & 56 in the draft

Don't care about the names, I just want us to pick up the next Dustin Martin, the next Jack Reiwoldt, the next Alex Rance, the next Trent Cotchin and the next Shane Edwards in this draft... will be pissed off if we don't!!!!
