I like this team. Personally though, I would downgrade Cousins to a rookie and with that cash upgrade Newman to someone like Lloyd/Laird. Not sure I would be game to miss the defence scoring of at least one of those blokes. As it is I can only afford one of those in my current team and it irks me a little

I've basically ended up with the same defense as Shadow without Lloyd/Laird. It's tough to do but I just feel like Laird/Lloyd are pretty much maxed out while Newman, Williams, and Brodie all should do 80-85 easily and make some cash which makes it feel a bit less risky. Could easily see Newman going 90 and becoming a keeper at D6ish as well if he gets the right role because we know Carlton have real fantasy potential down back.

I agree on those points. And subsequently have all 3 of those blokes too (at this very point in time haha). I just keep looking at the scores Lloyd/Laird are capable of and if they jump out of the blocks early (especially like Laird has done the past 2 seasons, someone even showed on the SuperCoach page how phenomenal his starts to seasons are) then you’ll be scrambling to get either of them in and at their price it might be too hard. Obviously it depends on where you’re spending the money elsewhere as to how it affects your team, but in all likelihood it’s going to be very difficult to make enough cash early on to upgrade to one of those blokes (unless something happens and they plummet) meaning you’ll be chasing them for large chunks of the season. It’s just a little too dicey going in without at least one of the big guns to start out with, especially as we know they both have huge ceilings

I kind of agree with you in that it ain't going to feel great if one/both of them really fire. I experienced that last season somewhat when I went without Lloyd during that stretch when he really turned it on (that 160 really hurt). My real struggle though is that I just see so much value in Witho, Newman, Williams and Brodie that I really don't want to lose any of em, particularly when the cash generation from rookies might be a bit thin this year.

And if I keep those 4 the choice is then between a Laird/Lloyd and a premo Matt Crouch/Oliver type mid who I just think probably outscores any defender. I'm sure I'll just react to whatever happens in JLT 2 though haha.

Yep me too

My "safe" version

Define 'Safe'.

You seem to be more confident in the rookies than I am.

I do like LDU. The extra pre-season should help him.

I don't get the interest in Boak. I know its reported he will be in the midfileld, and I know Wines is out for few weeks, but playing in the Port Adelaide midfield is not even good for the Port Adelaide midfielders!

He turns 30 this year. I don't see the upside.

Best of a bad bunch basically, haha

Cousins will be the first to be downgraded if he puts a foot wrong, but it won't be used to change anything in my backline. Will be more for my ruck setup (if I want to downgrade Heeney to Parf, and then Cousins to basic rook, so I can upgrade either ruck to Grundy if need be)

Lloyd is the only one I still might consider, but even he isnt going at the same rate as a Duncan or a Merrett. This is what I keep coming back to and why I can't justify paying those prices for Lloyd and Laird, because the mids I could have at their price point are much more likely to score better. Smith is also taking all the kick ins which means Laird isn't getting those cheapies in the backline. He'd have to be able to go over 110 for the year to even think about picking him, which I don't think he does. Lloyd I'm unsure of, but I'm still not willing to pull the trigger on him at the detriment of the rest of my team. Only Macrae and (maybe) a fully fit Grundy are worth that change.

Cousins is priced at 59K more than Walsh and could go 90 if he's the other half of the Titch replacement duo with Jones/Morrison. He's in because he's just an expensive rook as opposed to a midpricer (that's how I'm looking at it anyway). Same with McCarthy

Hi guys, feedback appreciated. Lots of re-shuffling post JLT 1. Decided to go without Lloyd or Laird (could turn Whitfield to Lloyd if need be)
Have also gone with the Hoff in the forward line as a bit of insurance for if Kreuzer kicks it.
Also, Merrett to be watched very closely in JLT #2. Rookies obviously subject to selection

DEF: Whitfield, Witherden, Newman, Williams, Clark, Burgess (Hore, Goddard)

MID: Cognilio, Cripps, Brayshaw, Merrett, B. Crouch, Libba, Walsh, Bewley (Gibbons, Constable)

RUCK: Grundy, Kreuzer (Cameron, Fort)

FWD: Dangerfield, Westhoff, Heeney, Setterfield, Cavarra, Parker (McAdam, Miers)

$14k leftover

Struggling to build a side I like. I semi like this however F5-6 + bench is awful. Hopefully JLT2 answers some questions...Oliver kick to handball ratio might be enough for me to look elsewhere also

Have $100K in the bank.
I like the structure of your team (similar to mine). I’m on LDU too - could be a great selection...and if not you just drop him back to a better performing cheaper mid.

I don’t mind your F5/6 - I reckon it’s the best place for speculative rooks.

Hey guys would like some feedback on my Pre-JLT2 team! Gone with Gawn/Grundy (Ghandi) but taken a hit in the backline. Tossing up Cripps & Watson/Wilkie vs Libba & Newman. Can also downgrade Smith to Sweet and go Kelly to Menegola.

DEF: Laird, Witherden, Williams, Collins, Clark, Watson (Hore, Jones)

MID: Macrae, Cogs, Cripps, Crouch, Taranto, Walsh, Hayes, Atkins (Hind, Gibbons)

RUC: Grundy, Gawn (Smith, Fort)

FWD: Dangerfield, Heeeny, Kelly, Setterfield, Parker, Drew (Balta, Burgess)

41k remaining.

Interesting you say this as i thought (haven't checked yet) DEF usually has the better rookies?
This year, in my opinion, you’re better off running speculative rooks forward rather than back...because of the new rules and the fact there are a bunch of solid value picks down back.

Music to my ears, cos I'm rocking a competition worst forward line (probably) to fund the rest of my team.

Would appreciate some feeback, cheers guys

Not seeing much of Laird in peoples team.. any reason why majority of teams are leaving him out? Impressed as per usual in JLT 1

He is in 37% of teams apparently so you are correct. Lloyd 39% and Whitfield 26%.

My view is whilst he will still score well, I don't really see him improving his average much if at all, and I hope to get him cheaper in a few weeks. But this is just what I hope because I can't fit them all in. I'm sure it will come back to bite me.
