If I see a scarf or bag next year to "reserve" seats, I will be throwing them over the edge of the stand

You may want to rethink that

Because of complaints from members about the behaviour of non RFC supporters in those sections, MCC increased security in the area a couple of years ago

Lifelong Richmond friends, we have sat in the same seats in N5 since the stand was built. We have attended almost every MCG home game since we signed up for reserved seats. The same people have been in our area for years. Our kids have grown up watching the Tigers together and we LOVE our seats because we think they are the best seats in the house. Undercover, we don't have to rush in case we miss out.. We love it. Even when in the eras when we were so crap we had the entire row in our section to ourselves. Week after week.

We win a premiership, and the marketing campaign is in full swing to achieve 100,000 members. Of course we sign up more family members to achieve this.

Then today, we receive the eviction notice. I guess that's the club's way of "thanking us" for our loyalty as members for 35 years. A way of "thanking us" for being there when we were crap... Yea - they got their 100,000 members, and these new supporters need to sit somewhere, while we are a powerhouse.

For sure, we will "move on" and watch our beloved Tigers. We will have to sit somewhere else, that's success for you. One thing is for sure, when the club ask for donations for the Fighting Tiger Fund, or raffle tickets etc, I will remind them of their eviction notice and they can START collecting off the NEW members.

It's only a seat. I know... But I LIKED sitting there, and if I was given a CHOICE to pay $270 more to secure that seat, I would have GLADLY done so.
I echo your sentiments our family have done the save our skins, Jack Dyer foundation etc and have also paid for reserved seats when the tigers were struggling

now we get the love letter from Brendon with all the wording that would make one of our political parties in Canberra proud just prior to screwing over the electorate with a smile on their dials

They have the power to do what they see fit and Although Brendon has done a good job this eviction is an act of shafting against very loyal members by the chief.

Benny don’t shaft your members.

Problem one is garbage. The seats are paid for whether someone sits in it or not. There will always be a no-show factor, so your second problem comes into play - if the seats are going to be empty, we may as well get more money for them.

So why not just strip the members who have a say below 60% attendance instead of everyone?

Reselling isn't a viable option, because noone wants to do it

In the focus group I was in, the criteria was:

1) 100% guarantee ticket can only be bought by a RFC supporter

2) punter gets half the cash the seat sells for

Both aren't gunna happen. First is impossible to police, and the second is never happening thanks to Ticketek margins and fees (off memory other clubs give back something like $10)

Edit: forgot to address the first part. Empty seats looks bad for tv, and us filling stadiums gets us a better fixture with the AFL. You want more Friday nights? We need to fill our sections and not watch from home

Calling it an 'eviction' is utterly ridiculous. You will need to watch the game from a different area now. That's not even remotely comparable to having your actual home taken away from you.

It's not even a different area. It's a slightly different seat compared to the one they currently sit in. Some weeks it might even be better one.

You must be new to RFC. Welcome son! Keep your hands up, cover your chin. Stay on your toes. You'll be fine.
Don’t have a reserved seat and have not been a member for as long as some people, but I’m not new 2019 will be my sixth year, so not as senior as some of you lot.

Things had to change with memberships, it sucks for you guys but it’s just the way RFC has been tracking since 2010.

Good - I'l grab security and ask them to remove the scarfs. You're either sitting in your seat or its an available seat as far as Im concerned (unless in the loo or getting a beer of course), particularly if someone is holding seats for people yet to arrive at the game. Shits me.

Good luck with that....

So what they should do is same as MCC do when its busy , you go into ground sit down and a marshall comes over and gives you a ticket for that seat. You can then go away for however long you want eat, drink etc and come back and your seat still there, no scarves, jacket bs over seats.

I’m a Premiership circle member and haven’t checked the mailbox in a few days, so I’m sure this is sitting in there.

Could someone please post the full details of what is happening so I can confirm how I’m impacted? I can’t get it until tomorrow and would like to know now.

If you're in the Southern Stand - your seats are gonski

Must say i,m peeved.Sitting in the N5 area close enough to be behind the goals as i can be.Being from the Country i like the idea of rocking upto my seat at any time i feel to choose.I like sitting in the isle seats for quick exits to the bar.Now they say sure you can stay where you are and you do get a seat but where that actually is will depend on others.Sure i can get there nice and early if i was ****ing living in inner melb it wouldn't be a ****en problem but i don't.
However if i want to rock up anytime knowing i have that particular seat sure we can move you all the way round to the HF flank or the ripper onto Level ****ing 3 if you want to be behind the goals.
So i could easy say **** you's there goes my high cost membership and just go back too the run of the mill general tickets and just ****en sit in level 3 anyway. But nooooooooo if you want a GF ticket due to our success on the field you have to stay with what you have.
I'm getting more pissed as i write this.
The RFC better keep on winning thats all i'll say.

Check your email.

I got the letter in the post yesterday and email this morning.

It looks like it's only affecting Level 2 Southern Stand.

Edit: The email basically says there is changes to your membership and the details have been posted to you in the mail.

I like that idea!!! We normally pop down to ground level at half time , nothing worse than coming back and seats for four gone!!

Will head into Wednesday’s forum , but don’t think it will matter as the decision has been made ..
Not that bad really !!

Your getting shafted.

55% is the number the club has said are being used. Picking a number above that

Or we could just punish everybody?

Yeah great idea.

So being a shift worker, I get 8 full weekends off during the footy season and not all of them are a home game but I still buy a reserved seat membership and have done for 24 years, I go when I can....should I be punished??

In the end it is what it is....nothing we can do.

The way I see it, the reserved seat is purchased. The seat/ticket is already paid for each game regardless if you use it or not. Seeing that it's already paid for means the club already has your money.

Though I guess the counter argument to that would be is that empty seats look bad on TV and if it's a sold out game then it's a seat that could be utilised by someone else.

Though, I can't see simply having a reserved bay rather than seat as solving the problem. They can't sell tickets to non-reserved seat holders because they still don't know if they will turn up and regardless of where people sit in the bay there will always be a seat free somewhere in the bay if the reserved seat holder doesn't turn up.
