I love Maxy as much as the next bloke but he was cooked at 43 games.
Yes he won a flag, but that was his last game.
He managed just 37 games after his 3rd knee reco.
History is against Patton playing many games for us.
Big Maxy had degenerative knees mate as the cartilage in his them were so damaged which by the end caused him to be bone on bone. I highly doubt our mediocs would be taking a chance on Patton if he had the same issues. Ligaments can heal whereas the cartilage in your knees cannot.

Here is a timeline of his ACL injuries:

Round 3, 2013 - Tore the ACL in his right knee.

Round 21, 2014 - Re-tore the ACL in his right knee.

During a training drill, 2018 - Tore the ACL in his left knee.

As you can see by the above that there was 1.5 years between him re-injuring his left ACL and then 4 years until he eventually did his right. Research shows that if you can get through 24 months without re-injuring the repaired ACL the chances of rupturing it again goes down a fair bit. However, during that initial 24 months the chances of re-injuring is six times greater than someone who has never had a rupture.

Long story short come the start of round 1 next season Patton will be very close to that 24 months which is why I believe he sat out this season.

So what we know so far is that compared to 2019 we will bring in a former Brownlow medalist, a former number one pick and a highly regarded father son prospect at a discount. And undoubtedly there is more to come.Bring it on.
Who is the former medalist we’re bringing in?

With respect to Max, Patton is a much better player and having undergone two recos, played some seriously excellent footy. Whereas poor Max barely got a run at it at all.

That said, you’re probably right about history not being on his side but there is reason to be optimistic on this one given how conservatively his recovery has been handled. And our recent history with knees is very good.

For a third round pick you’re getting high key forward talent into the club. That’s hard to find. Worth the risk at that price.

He’ll be a better hale than ceglar. Or should not every hawks team be viewed through the prism of the three peat!!
Pattons a great value get
- takes heat off Lewis
- gives us a secondary long marking option forward
- Mcevoy can ruck / play defender if required
- Obrien can play as a floater which I think suits him better
- physically looks in great nick

Just needs to get touch back and mentally be in good nick

A Great start we have responded by hardly flexing a muscle and plugging two massive holes.
They might not be world beaters but they are there to play a role. Reminds me a bit of the Hale &Gibson trades.

The freedom Sicily&Scrimshaw will enjoy having a C.h.b!
I'm sure Gunston&Tob,Breust will enjoy up fwd having the two bigger targets.

Keep em coming!

Interesting that frost finished in Melbs top 10 b+f , he is the perfect moneyball pickup.

As for Patton I've come around to getting him , looking at his stats i was fairly suprised how much footy he has played in the last 3 years amd some bloody good footy aswell. Could he be our tom Hawkins?
