Logue, Bewley, SHill, Blakely, Ballas in the rehab group. Blakely looks like he's close to being cut loose from what I saw. Logue and Ballas both looked to be moving pretty well. Pearce, Hogan and Langdon running laps.

Harley doing some different drills and was pushing pretty hard.

Switta and Cox training in the main group. Mostly ball movement and ball handling drills.Nothing to get too excited about. Cam Mac running around like he's just discovered that footy is the best thing in the world.

Fyfe failing to run defensively . Anyone notice how great Dane Swan, Dusty Martin, Paddy Dangerfield, G Ablett Jr and Sr were defensively? Perhaps Roos is trying to distract everyone from the fact that his last club recruited a defender who hasn't contributed anything defensively yet.

Saw RTB spend about 10 minutes one on one with Ethan Hughes. He then went and spoke with Tabs. It was all very measured and it looked like Ross was in teacher mode.

St Kilda supporters not very happy about the comments either... More the timing of them ;)

Given the way the media drives the conversation and how they like to make bets, it wouldn't surprise me if someone has made a bet on the brownlow for someone else and needs to take the shine off Fyfe a bit.

If the newspapers are talking about Fyfe being BOG the first six of seven games then he is going to get more umpire attention, they expect him to play well so less amazing feats will equal a BOG.

See story on rising star bets and people on the voting panel being influenced while working with the gamblers.

There is a theory about expectations being too high opening one up to disappointment - might be worth your while to look into it.
Haha yeah mate I get what you're saying. I like many did have high expectations of a fully fit list but unfortunately life doesn't always turn out great. It's only Round 3 so I won't make a full judgement yet, but if this club is going to be what we think it can be, we need to learn to continue playing cohesively without key players like Fyfe.

Great training report LFB

Dustin Martin tackles for 2019 ..... ZERO. He is a fair way off his best so far but at his best he is a better player for being offensive rather than trying to do things that anyone can do.

You'd hope so. For a bloke that Ross rates as a close personal friend and mentor, he doesn't half bag Ross's team out whenever he gets the chance.
I think it's more that they pay attention too and comment on games/players where the expected side lost. So much micro-commenting in the AFL it is just shit-stirring.

Agree. All teams need a their stars for sustained success. But, in the end of the day, AFL is a physically demanding sport like no other and a good coaching/training staff will work out how to win when key players go down and to manage the availability especially injury prone ones. Not sure I've seen it done well anywhere in particualr - Hawks prob the best especially in the 3peat years. I know I'm speaking in generalisations here, here, but coaches still seem too adicted to having their stars play even when they could do with a break. Players don't help themselves half the time either.

Like I said, it's a tough thing to get right. Not a sport more difficult to manage in terms of fitness/physiology etc.

Seemed to me today that they were really focusing on trying to "embed" the fast play on style of play, with lots of repetition. I noticed when someone took a bad option and took too long to get it forward the forward players were saying things like "get it in", "stop stuffing around". It was pretty gusty and the skills were not silky, but the focus was very clear to me. Move it forward quickly, have a player running past when a mark is taken and long kicks. At one stage Tabs took a mark at half forward and squared it up to a free man in the corridor just outside 50. Even though he hit the target, Ross pulled him up and said "there were two one-on-ones deep in the 50, go for them". So for me it's:

Play on quickly wherever possible
Run past for the handball, then kick it long
Deep entries - shallow entries are the ones that rebound quickly and kill you

I'm sure we will have some ups and downs, but it looks like there is a real commitment to playing fast, attacking footy. Get a couple of players back and the second half of the season could be quite interesting.
