Hazing is playing pranks on new players, it can go to far, but it can reveal the true character of an individual, i wouldnt be surprised if most clubs don't play pranks on first years, that's just low level hazing...
You're probably right. I'm just being hopeful. The Ceglar stuff is funny. We are in desperate need of a ruckman yet we are willing to give him away. That shows how ordinary he is. Yet people here still think another club would be interested in him. We made our bed. We will have to see out the contract and should trade in a decent ruckman while Ceglar plays VFL.
Crazy to think he's related to Morrison- according to this board Morrison is a vanilla choir boy who nurtures baby birds back to health- beautiful juxtapositionHe’s a total GRUB, just look at the way he goes about it. There is a reason the only club that wanted him was Port, and that is because they love scum bags. The two that spring to mind are SPP and Hartlett.
It depends whether another club thinks they could get greater value using him differently as well.
If you want to move the ball quickly you need to be at least one of skillful or fast as a side. Hodge was very skillful and he could get it into the hands of smith and hill, who had speed and good skills. Speed isn’t all there is but it is an important part of the puzzle.
And Buddy, Breust, Burgoyne who were all very quick. Gunston, Roughy, Gibbo, Suckling and Stratts we're all quick for their roles too. People underestimate how much speed and quickness we had because Mitchell, Lewis and Hodge we're slow.We did have Hill, Cyril, Poppy, Birchall, Smith.
Disagree, but thanks for moving the thread away from Cameron! Stop it everyone.Hawks in: Narkle, 2020 round one late pick/ early round two
Geelong in: Breust, fourth rounder
I'm not super for trading Breust- BUT if the deal is right I'd consider it, would a deal like this seem fair to people?
Liked for the “samesies”Samesies, our midfielders used to be good at midfielding but are now fu**ing awful.
Sooked like a baby to get out of Brisbane when, wait for it?????No chance for Polec. Discarded by Port when they were a rabble and discarded by north when they are a rabble should be enough for everyone.
Golden handcuffs and a rubber salary cap may keep them there but it doesnt make them need to performSomething toxic going on at GWS. Too talented to be finishing 12th
We should be looking closely at that list and reaching out to any disgruntled players
All those preseason weekend camps to Bonnie Doon.Hazing is playing pranks on new players, it can go to far, but it can reveal the true character of an individual, i wouldnt be surprised if most clubs don't play pranks on first years, that's just low level hazing...
Nothing wrong with hazing if it weeds out the Polecs of this world.
I always thought that Michael Voss and Justin Leppitsch created a harsh environment for players to gel with each other and create club loyalty, dont know the specifics, but they didn't seem the best options for coach at Brisbane.
Oh yeah, worked wonders for Brisbane. Hazing is fantastic.
Adelaide too, those pre-season camps messing with their playing list really got them to that next level.
No surprise the successful clubs in recent years have been the ones that put time and money into the complete opposite tactics to hazing. Richmond, Hawthorn, West Coast are all on the fore-front of mindfulness, team building and togetherness as opposed to shitty power structures where the older players try to bully kids into line.
Plodder? Alastair Clarkson's job security says hi (jokes)Footskills and speed of disposal can make up for leg speed.
Sam Mitchell was a plodder, but his ability to redirect the flow of ball movement in a split second continually opened up the ground for us and lead to possession chains and subsequent 1on1 contests in the forward half.
We need that precision ball movement from a contest, and leg speed becomes less of a necessity.
I was there for that. My second best live moment i reckon.. ( other than flags )
Yep this. It's also important to remember where we are list wise. You'd think that we're not going to miraculously launch ourselves into the top 8 next season by adding Merrett and even if we do we won't be doing any damage if we were to. We need to start adding quality young kids on rookie scale salaries to our young vets we already have on the list (ie Mitchell, Worpel, Sicily, Wingard, JOM). The old adage of drafting quality young kids and getting them to the 50 game mark is the way to do it but will obviously take a lot of time and patience from Clarko + the players mentioned above. I kind of feel adding a guy like Merrett who is a quality player and who would be very useful for us shouldn't be who we chase right at this point in time. The asking price would be way too high and the fact he can leave in a years time would be madness and a risk not worth taking when you can out price the * next offseason when he's a FA.He's a good user. But irrelevant. We're not getting him.
If Patton loses weight during the off-season and stays injury free, and Lewis works on his endurance levels, you’d expect a much better functioning forward-line next year with an increased number of inside 50s per game with Mitchell, Worpel, O’Meara, Smith (if he stays), with one of Maginness, Cousins or both for that matter pushing for best 22 should see an increase in scoring.
Disagree. We are very far away. As constructed and maybe with a bit of luck along with a favourable draw we could maybe squeak into the 8 but I think it’s unlikely. The sooner the some of here realise we have a couple of hard years ahead the easier it will be. I’m not scared of these hard times to come so long as the club are smart with their list decisions. By this I mean not trading in stop gap solutions and instead investing / developing our youth.I think the odd season played a huge part in how the team played. Burgs acknowledges that hub life just did not agree. We have a number of kids that found there feet. Scrim, day, cousins and saw Moore, CJ, greaves and Finn have something that appeals to future style which was speed on the ball. We were unsettled all year but I think we were always a midfield rotation down. A player like Merrett into the hawks system would be huge. Tom Mitchell took most of the year to find his rhythm and in the last 4 games he was back to influencing games. Foot skills in the middle of the ground are a must so either draft a mid who kicks super well or just a pure footballer To be in the right spot at the right time. Downie looks to be a quality ball user so another would be great. I honestly don’t think we were that far off. Just missing a couple of pieces of the puzzle which is always super frustrating
