Haha its called a game of poker.

Cats are not going to abandon this.

They have spent months recruiting this bloke and it’s now on them to follow through.

poor old pussies might have to pay up once.
Deal will get done.

It’s all huff and puff.
Would be a terrible look for their 'brand' if they walked too , simple not going to happen .

How is matching the contract a bluff? They have literally put the paperwork in, therefore it wasn't a bluff?
They have agreed to trade in Hogan and Preuss and those deals will be held up. They won’t risk Cameron going to the draft. They will trade him. Both sides bluffing and he will be traded for two first round picks after many wasted days of hot air

Hogan trade will be for peanuts.

Preuss trade will be done very quickly.

Neither will impact stance on Cameron

With Hogan departing Freo they lack a mobile 3rd tall forward. What’s the chance of packaging 21 and O’Brien for Cerra before he comes out of contract next year.

I wouldn’t think Freo would be interested in that.

Port on the other hand need a Westhoff replacement. 🧐

Josh Kelly or Z.Merrett?

Unpopular opinion, but Merrett. He goes missing less when his team is losing. In some poor GWS games I feel like Kelly still just coasts around. Merrett looks like he is busting a gut from beginning to end.

They have officially matched the contract offer, though. That means if Jeremy signs it, he is there on that money and it is completely out of their hands (now). They can't now just change their minds and take it back.

But they know he won’t sign and stay. Everyone knows how it ends up but it won’t stop 10 days of complete nonsense from all parties before he is traded to Geelong for two picks

My opinion is that’d be a mistake trading for Merrett, Kelly or Treloar. These guys are mid 20s and have 5 prime years left. They may be approaching the end when Hawthorn are in a realistic place to seriously challenge again. I’d much rather go to the draft and get a future star for the next 10 years.

Id like to see hawthorn build a nucleus through the draft firstly then go to free agency and acquire what they need when they’re in the window for another premiership.

Merret and Kelly next year as Free Agents

Kelly has a trigger similar to Gaff, tough to see him signing something like that, although a star trying to leave reeks of AFL interference

How big is a nucleus/core, I'd consider it 8-12 players.

We would need to find 4-6 more 18-23 year olds to add to Worpel, Day, Scrimshaw and Hardwick.

Already on our list hopefully Maginness and Lewis can establish themselves at the level, land Hollands with pick 4/5, bring in mid teens pick and draft someone like a Henry plus Downie we could have a talent nucleus/core of 9ish.

With the likes of Higgins/Stephenson possible available bringing one of those 2 in could round out the 10.

Nailing the 2021 draft finishes the core.

So a very optimistic look but if everything goes right we could find ourselves in a very good spot by 2022.

Looking at most of the past premiership teams they have around half their players capable of playing A grade footy and the rest are important role players.

Currently we are short on talent to compete with the best.

In years to come im hopeful Scrimshaw, Day and Worpel become consistent A graders. Hopefully Scicily, Mitchell, O’Meara and Wingard can get back to their consistent best.

I still think we need to nail a couple of drafts and get 50 odd games into them before we challenge again.
