Surely Metricon and Gabba surface can not handle 3 games a week?

Absolutely Brisbane and GC should be forced to play a number of games Interstate and at the opposing stadiums. All clubs should be limited to a maximum of 6/7 games at their home ground.

Re the Gabba and Metricon potentially getting trashed with the number of games, has Cazaly Stadium in Cairns been in the conversation at all? They were sticking their arm up for the China game, why aren't they now? Perfect place for the Vic teams to take the home town advantage away from the Lions and Suns.

There would be other grounds available in Townsville, Rockhampton etc.

Correct - looks like the AFL getting in before the NRL do this.

Season is fkd if Corona gets out in Qld though....

Not necessarily. They have the flexibility to set up a hub in the Territory, SA, WA or even Tasmania if things go to shit in QLD.

This should theoretically make it easier to schedule the games here on out though..

Apparently COVID loves cashed up bogans, so no doubt SE Qld will be under the pump soon.

I live here and there really is no regard to social distancing.

Looks like the next block of the fixture will be announced early next week and that each club will be getting a bye before the end of the season. 12 rounds will be squashed into 9 weeks.

Our lack of injuries and depth will be useful here. We all know Port is going to get the short end of the stick on backing up between games. We’ll need to be smart and rotate players (but keep playing enough talls).

Hopefully it will see us with a couple of younger players in the side each game, so we can keep the list as fresh as possible. Our ruck depth may be quite useful during this period as well.

Yeah well I went to Marion shopping centre on the weekend in SA and there is absolutely none there. Shame really because if and probably when harsher restrictions come back in people will have to re learn all over again.

Although we're due for at least 7 of the next 10 games at AO, there's been noises about games in Tasmania and possibly NT. As we haven't played Howthorn, N0rf or the Dees yet I bet we get sent to both...

AFL putting finishing touches on compressed fixture plan

The AFL will release the next part of its complex 2020 fixture puzzle early next week with Travis Auld and league officials dealing with the 18 clubs, its players and conditioning experts about how best to compress the schedule in the coming weeks.
Auld told the Sunday Herald Sun he was still working through the issues of how tight the competition could be compressed.

He also indicated he was working closely with the Tasmanian Government in an effort to have Hawthorn and North Melbourne play a few matches there, as well as the prospect of games in the Northern Territory.

Of course we will be screwed by the AFL with regards to fixturing. Port Adelaide FC the most travelled football club in 2020.

The AFL won’t release its next batch of fixtures until Tuesday at the earliest, but when it does there will be nine rounds compressed into six weeks.

Foxfooty.com.au understands Rounds 17 and 18 are set to remain across a fortnight in order to give clubs a more ‘normal’ lead-in to finals.

In order to condense nine matches into six weeks, the AFL needed to gain the players’ approval. The AFL Players’ Association had previously given the green light for five-day breaks - which were outside the parameters of the Collective Bargaining Agreement - but the league wants to have the option of scheduling four day breaks to further accelerate the season.

The AFLPA has been open to this idea, but made it clear the contract freeze (which has been in place since March and has prohibited players from penning new deals) would need to be lifted before agreeing to the league’s demands.

Foxfooty.com.au understood the player contract freeze will be lifted within 24 hours, paving the way for the AFL to announce as many as 81 games across six weeks, though it’s more likely they will release fixtures incrementally as they have been doing.

...and for Brad Crouch to get on with the rest of his life.
