That looks better, Cats probs still feel shafted there and honestly I'd cop a future third instead of second if we're getting 13
Yes, the old ''everyone feels slightly aggrieved''.

I suspect we'd also end up giving #13 to Bombers and keeping #15 for ourselves. Bombers would probably want to trade that plus maybe a second to Bulldogs for Dunkley.

Geelong IN: Jeremy Cameron Out: 13, 15, Future 3rd
Essendon IN: Caldwell, 13 Out:8
GWS IN: 8, 15, Geelong future 3rd Out: Jeremy Cameron, Jye Caldwell

Basically #8 & a future 3rd for Jezza and #15 for Caldwell - both a bit unders, but probably best we could hope for.

Of course, if Caldwell figures out he wouldn't get enough mid time, he might consider Norths - especially if Anderson moves on to Carlton. That might unlock better value for him, unless Norths want to look at the old ''get him in the PSD'' approach.

That would be a horrible result for us.

Why? It's just a touch less (i.e. realistic) than PMBangers' proposal except with Caldwell added in - but getting a first round ''equivalent'' return vice a future second rounder. What's your thinking?
I thught he was unders too.

Individually Jezza is worth significantly more than 8 and a 3rd. And we will get more than that.

Caldwell should be around 15 on his own ( I think that is unders, but I am bias)

Bringing the 3 in worsens both trades.

Our trade may end up something like you have suggested, but in that case, Ill be very, very disappointed

I'd assume a threeway trade with Essendon and Geelong would look like

Geelong IN: Jeremy Cameron Out: 13, 15, Future 2nd
Essendon IN: 13, 15 Out:8
GWS IN: 8, Geelong future 2nd Out: Jeremy Cameron

Im assuming it gets tied up in them getting caldwell if it were to happen. And essendon will probably want 1 current and 1 future 1st from geelong (say 15 and a future 1st and we keep 13 for example) as dunkley will cost them 2 future 1st...dogs wont want 1sts this year. But your suggestion is a good ballpark value just move picks around as needed.

Hmm, as I said earlier, I think Essendon would be the most difficult club to deal with. I think we'll be well underpaid for Caldwell, whether we trade him by himself or in a larger trade like this. Value is also lost in moving 13 & 15 (or Caldwell) for 8.

I would still prefer my earlier Lions/Witherden or the preceding Collingwood/Phillips trade. In the end, I'd prefer two picks in the teens than just pick 8 - given that IMHO there are 7 players who are the pick of the crop (McDonald, JUH, Hollands, Thilthorpe, Phillips, DGB, Campbell) and 2 of those are NGA/Academy selections, so pick 8 is in no man's land of the draft.

Sorry for the intrusion but if caldwell is absolutely set on leaving i would love it if adelaide could help out. Myself and others on our board would be happy to swap pick 9 for caldwell and hately if essendon are lowballing. Alternatively if the crows can come to an arrangement with gws we could cut off the pre season draft option for essendon and that could wedge them to up their offer to you guys. I'd hope that crows management would have at least sounded out gws and caldwells manager to see if there is an opening that works if essendon wont be reasonable

I guess it would depend on Caldwell. My guess is that he wants to be in Victoria.

So, McCartney revealed that we sent an offer in respect of Jezza on day 1 of the trade period, and has been chatting to Stephen Wells since.

So much for the rubbish from Cats fans about 'GWS aren't even answering the phone.' FMD, some people are morons.

Why is Caldwell worth a top 10 pick and Hately only worth a second rounder?
They are both worth more, but Adelaide has the unfortunate advantage of PSD pick 1. Essendon doesn't. So pay up. Or Caldwell can play with Adelaide or North Melbourne - both would love to slot him into their midfield.

That and Caldwell (like Cameron) we actually want to keep which shows how highly is rated. Doubt he rolls the dice on the draft as he won’t get to Essendon.

The threat of the pre season draft unless it’s Adelaide or north is useless cause good players won’t want to roll the dice on ending up at either of those clubs. More likely to turn around and re sign with the giants.

Caldwell is a significantly better player.
The respective contracts indicate their new clubs also rate them significantly differently as well.
Caldwell was picked at 11, become the player that would be expected of a pick of that type, so the trade would be around that mark.

The club feels he's better than what he was when we drafted him as we've built him up to be conditioned enough to play a full season without signifocant injury risk

Port Adelaide Next Generation Academy prospect Lachie Jones says he has held conversations with 12 clubs in the lead-up to the National Draft. The Woodville-West Torrens defender has spoken with Essendon, GWS and 10 other clubs, yet peculiarly is yet to officially meet with the Power.

“Yeah, I have spoken to Essendon,” Jones admitted on SEN SA Breakfast. “Just once a few months ago but other than that no other contact, so not too sure (if they are seriously interested). I’ve spoken to about 12 clubs. “I’ve spoken to one or two clubs twice. GWS was one and there was another one, but I lose track of this sort of stuff.”

I'm not surprised at us and Bombers talking to him - essentially the best youngster in the draft to replace (respectively) Adam Saad & Zac Williams. Not that either of us will get him as it's a rolled gold cert that Port match. But I wouldn't be surprised at a bid coming from either of our clubs.

I'd also be happy if Jye Caldwell got jacked at Essendon possibly trading in Dunkley and low-balling their trade offer - and turned around and re-signed with us!

Which deal gets done first and/or which would be first priority for the club? Cameron/Caldwell/Hately/Preuss?
Hately/Preuess will be Monday/Tuesday

Cameron/Caldwell will be done with 2mins to go on Thursday 🤣

Same view.

I wouldn't be surprised if the pick we get for Hately goes straight to Melbourne. From the SEN story (which sounds about right for opening positions) we've offered our 44 and they want the Corr compo 31. If we get 33 or 40 from Crows, then I can see us just handing that over- 33 they'd take no problem, 40 might need a bit more haggling.

I think Cameron gets done next - as much as I'd love there to be no agreement and we persuade Jezza to stay, Wells is a professional and he'll fight for a bit, then realise the need to get the job done plus do other deals (mainly Higgins, possibly Fogarty) and just do it.

Dodo will fight all the way - and he has other fights on fair trade value regarding Dunkley and Fantasia. Like Dylan Shiel, I can see it going right to the end. If we're prepared to stare him down and end up losing Caldwell into the draft (should he really not want to stay), then it could be a risk/reward play to the last two minutes like Shiel (& Bonar too). We've shown in those previous deals we're prepared to do it, so ... be warned Bombers!
