Question for those who want a refund in part or full for games not delivered in 2020, would you be prepared to accept a credit against 2021 membership fee rather than a cash refund?

No value judgement, just want to know what your thinking is.

Yes, but doesn't that just delay the problem?

Considering the hundreds of hours we on bigfooty and the general public individually spend watching, thinking, writing and talking about PAFC and the AFL, the notion that we get nothing out of our membership if we can't attend a game is a bit rich.

You can do all that without a membership. For most people memberships are effectively a season pass (by international standards that's what the AFL memberships are). Without access to games, the membership has limited to no value to most members. Yes, for some it's a donation. But I'd assume those would be a minority. I'm sure the club can guilt a few more into not asking for or accepting a refund. But I still believe that all clubs will suffer very significant loses on the membership front. It'll be up to the franchisor to pick up the loses or for the franchisees to close shop. After all, that's what this league is.

Even though I'm not caring about a refund , can't I do all of those things without a membership

I’m not looking for a refund for what I’ve already paid, but surely I shouldn’t be expected to continue paying my monthly instalments!

No it isn’t. You get that for being exposed to the sponsors etc.

I agree with the sentiment but current circumstances make it null and void. Some people will need that refund. Literally.

You can do all that without a membership, but the point is we are provided a huge product in PAFC, essentially free to us as a consumer.

Which is absolutely a valid reason to cancel a membership.

It’s not though, it’s all paid for by us.
The stupid wages, the taxpayer funded grounds, the lot.

Anyone else have more than the usual deducted from the account today? Usually $25 o had 75 taken today

Yeah, I’m calling in my lunch break tomorrow. They normally take about $145 a month. I changed my CC D/D details last month as my old CC expired (& I think I threw the new card out by mistake) so I check my new D/D CC balance today and $45 taken by D/D. Then check old CC account (the one that expired, I updated details recently, but thought new CC would be debited) and today the whole monthly amount (that shouldn’t of come out) of $145 came out. Wtf? I’m happy to give up the $ if no games can be attended this season, but if this shit happens again I’m of the “changing my mind” and asking for partial refund!

All of these things are something you can do without a membership. If you want to suggest a feeling of deeper connection to the club as a member I can understand/get behind that.

I think Dingle has it right when he says the club couldn't survive without the money from memberships. My (inefficient) preference would be to have it refunded and then give it straight back to the club as a donation. I'm not getting what I paid for with my membership but I also want to support the club financially.

I also feel like the club pays lip service to the members (see: best fans in the league vs "white noise", appointing co-captains). To see that money go out would be an eye opener. Even though the team wouldn't exist without the players, I don't think the club would exist without the members/supporters.

An 18 team AFL competition is paid for by us, our eyeballs, our spending habits and our taxpayer money.

Port Adelaide in the AFL is paid for by our memberships and financial viability as a club.

I read yesterday that the Crown casino are just disabling every second pokie machine to enable social distancing. Pubs and clubs will probably us a similar little trick
In Las Vegas all casinos, bars, restaurants have been ordered closed. Our government hasn't got the guts to do likewise, so Crown is allowed to make a token effort. Zero concern about the health of casino goers and the wider population.

State governments collect gaming taxes revenue and state governments issue state of emergency orders.

Don't blame Canberra for that one.

I’m gonna continue paying mine solely so I can go full “WeLl AcTuAlLy” when some dickhead tries to justify Ken’s 33rd year at the club with “guess you don’t remember when coronavirus...”
