Fair bit of upside/value in Jacobs though at R2

Agreed, and is my consideration if I wanted to save cash, but also know that he's slowed down massively, and is not the same 95+ averaging ruck he was in 2017/2018. Gave myself far too much trouble with trying to be clever and generate cash from the ruck last season, did not work well at all, haha.

First draft:

D: Lloyd, Williams, Doch, Roberton, Young, Bianco (2x Rooks)
M: Macrae, Treloar, Danger, Titch, Ward, Rowell, Anderson, Pickett (Maginess/Rook)
R: Grundy, O'Brien (Rook)
F: Whitfield, Martin, B Smith, Henry, Rankine, M King (2x Rooks)
U: (Rook)

Little concerned over Roberton, Titch and Ward if they don't get up for Round 1, will affect my price structure if 2 or more don't get up.

I keep trying to squeeze Selwood, Steven and Ward into my mids -> the problem is there are no decent forward rookies!

Stupid game

As always, rucks are a big talking point.

Currently looking at Grundy, Jacobs with Naismith on the bench.
Thinking is that rather than going Grundy, Gawn and a non-playing (or playing little rookie), my option should generate enough cash within my 3 rucks to trade down/up to get the 2nd best ruck on the ground, while still having $$ cash left over from the trade.

Just trying to have as few players not generating cash as last year at times I had 3-4 bench spots not playing for extended periods and cash generation is king!!!

Also I have my doubts over Gawn being the 2nd best ruck this year. I think he'll drop to 105-110 avg. and ROB or Lycett might just challenge that so I'm happy to fade him early and wait and see

If you are worried about a spot not generating cash, then dont start Grundy. Hes not going to make any. If he does, it will be negligible. No way to starting Gawn either. Jacobs is a really easy pick.

Here is my current team. Spend up on rookies and have 54k left to play with.

Midfield premiums burn me every year so I'm going for players that had a bad 2019 but have a history of high scores and are durable.

I think i count 6 "Rolling 22" players there (Whitfield, Smith, Steven, Grundy, Mitchell and Docherty). I would try to get that closer to 10ish personally. its basically giving up trades before the season starts. I'm not sure about Rozee making much coin, along with B Smith and a lot of the midfielders. I like Ward, Roberton and Docherty though. Pretty easy and all 3 should be pretty safe investments. In summary, I would try to lean a bit more "Stars and scrubs" if i were you

Can almost guarantee that De Koning will play the opening rounds, given how both Curnow and Mackay won't be playing due to injury. He's only 190K and could be a good option (he's who I've opted for)

And the over selected, never seen Darcy Cameron @ $170k.
If he truly does exist and "is a capable forward" like the pies think, he might get a game.

What's people's thoughts on the ideal utility?
Last year I struggled for a link from DEF/FWD (and kept some spuds Gardner & one of the GC rejects just cos they were useful in team movement)
The utility is going to be a million times more useful than R4.

I see your point and I looked into not starting with him closely, but I think his early run of games are too good to not start him.

The issue is these guys will sit fwd, probably score 30 then get dropped after 2 weeks!!
If Naismith is fit he will be #1 ruck at Sydney (I think) with Sinkers playing fwd/ruck and much more likely to get a run of games and avg 60-70.

My current approach is early in the season you simply want your UTE (like my abbreviation?!) playing as they need to make $$.
Approaching the byes then it will become far more important to select a player that has links to where your team needs them for bye structure.

Also thinking if teams have great years with little injuries, we could see the UTE player used a bit like a 'streamed' player in draft as teams are finished off earlier.
Eg. your UTE is Dusty who is a mid/fwd. Plays Coll, GC, WB and Carl in rds 17,18,19 and 20 so you could play him for rds 18 and 20 and bench him for the other 2

I'm interested in how people choose their uber premium midfielders?

Feels a bit like splitting hairs / throwing darts at a board to me, so keen to hear how others approach it (eg still looking for value? Consistency?).

I also haven't worked out if I trust Bevo yet, re Dunkley.

I always do the same thing. I try to pick as many underpriced Rolling 22 players as possible. This year i ended up with 5 underpriced "uber premium" midfielders. Yes, of course, its speculation. But i just make my best guess who will be top 8 and my 5 landed in it. I literally dont have a single player on my team that i dont think will make me coin. Whitfield is the closest to it (he will make a small amount). Oh , and dont trust Dunkley, yet

Naismith is interesting but will need to line up round 1 as ruck for me to put him on the bench.

Hayes is my bench ruck atm he will definitely get games this year and is 170k

I can't swap anyone with anyone.
Using mobile website, the arrows come up for the swap.
Merrett & MacRae are on my bench as I just picked 8 mids I wanted..
Now I can't rearrange.
Even on a PC my team is bugged.
Select an emergency or swap my players around,
"Error, Formation must not be empty" wtf
So mobile/desktop versions on phone, and PC are pissing me off.
