A lot of negativity in this thread. If Fyfe, Mundy, Walters, Lobb, Logue, Ryan, Hogan, Cerra, Brayshaw all play 14+ games this year we'll play finals.

Our midfield is elite, our forward line is potent and we're a Hamling/Pearce away from having a fantastic back 6.

I like the enthusiasm and agree with most of what you are saying but our midfield is elite?

Fyfe is elite and Walters is elite for his position but he’s a hf that rotates through, his numbers aren’t elite for a midfielder. Outside of that we’re bog average in that department imo our midfield is why we’re considered wooden spoon contenders.

Seriously, we had an big injury at the start.

Especially, years 3 and 4 ended Neesham coaching career.

Remember this also. To make the finals in 97 I think we needed to beat a crap Melbourne in the last game of the year at the MCG and we could barely get a team on the park.
We started well but got smashed in the second half, The Dees finished last and and we finished out of the 8 on percentage, if we had won we would have replaced Brisbane in the finals.

Why the **** did you have to go and bring that up!!!

Do other teams have a constant stream of injuries like Freo?
Collingwood and GWS.

Who knows but if the Giants had most of their best 22, they might have won a flag.

Brisbane like us had a massive injury list each year, they made a change in coaching and conditioning staff and they are have the most available players.

Is it luck or good management or a combination of both? Who knows

Doing the same thing with the same people Is madness.

True, we would have made the finals in 1997 if we had beaten Melbourne, but it was Port that missed out on the finals by percentage in their 1st season. Brisbane and Port were ahead of us on the ladder by 2 points and it stayed that way as they both lost.

Port played the last game of the round and were still a chance, but by that stage we'd already dropped to 12th spot on percentage, despite the other results we required (a Brisbane loss and a Carlton loss) going our way.

Just remember that weekend being a real fizzer because as we were struggling against Melbourne, Carlton who were playing at the same time were well ahead of Richmond (they ended up losing late by 2pts).

Only 10 wins a draw was enough to make the 8 in a 22 week season with 16 clubs.
