Trade hypotheticals and discussion of how you think or want a trade to happen go here - 2020 FA, Draft and Trade HYPOTHETICAL thread.

If you want to talk about a current Hawthorn player and if they’re staying on the list, it goes here - Should I stay or should I go now? End of season list management discussion (now continued for 2020)

Trade/FA targets thread is for discussion of News about players we are to target via trade of FA. It’s not for “Kane Cornes says we should get this player”.

No one is going to come to us because we don't dangle enough of the carrot. All well and good to have a certain pay structure but players that are looking for a new home are not interested in being part of a club that was once a superpower a few years ago. it's not 2010 anymore. If we want the good players we take it seriously or we don't bother. We are clearly not interested in anyone if were not getting them cheap. Says to me that we are accepting now of a decent rebuild and live to fight another day when we become relevant again. I'm OK with that as long as the club is on the same page.
I think long term injury to Sicily and the retirements / loss of some long standing premiership players (Smith, Stratts, Frawley, Poppy) forced a rethink of where the list is at and the direction has been reassessed and it’s obvious that some hard decisions have been made.

Now it’s easy to get caught up in the ‘we should just hand out any old contract’ but that is just silly with what the long term focus is which I have no doubt whatsoever is adding guys to our core that fall within a reasonable pay structure. Does it mean we miss out on a Zac Williams type? Maybe but adding those types of players are the one you do when your ready to launch and the reality is we are just not there yet and until we keep on adding some quality pieces via the next couple of drafts it’s going to be money ball pickups and some hard times. You could hear it it Wrighty’s voice that he does want acquire Phillips but not by ridiculously overpaying.

There’s no rushing the next period coming up for the HFC and patience, smarts and some luck will most certainly be needed.

Then he hopefully looked at the team with arguably the worst midfield group in the comp and the need for speed......
I'd understand if it was a direct replacement for Dunkley but there looking to load up even more and keep Dunkley as well. Doesn't make alot of sense there all just going to be a group of ball hogs. They already have Bailey Smith who is literally a replica to the way Treloar plays only 8 years younger.

Dont have an issue with it either if thats what happens , no need to trade for the sake of trading.

When the season went pear shaped a lot of chat on here was 'draft, draft, draft' now its a bit 'why arent we actively trying to get players' just because its trade period.

Not saying nothing will happen either , we would have a very clear plan imo.

Combination of the compromised and unknown nature of this years draft crop plus players from other clubs being available to us who directly suit our needs.

I desperately wanted to hit the draft in 2018 and 2019 and so far all we've had to show for those years is Will Day, Josh Morris and Damon Greaves.

Personally I felt that it was time to be aggressive in the open market and the draft this year because both were possible. We have list space, salary cap room, draft picks and quality players available on the market. I'd say that any Hawthorn supporter who is a bit disappointed if we only end up with Hartigan and a few draft picks has every right to feel that way.

At the beginning of the trade period i was hoping for Hartigan, Phillips, Narkle, pick 4, Downie and at least 1 or 2 pick in the 40's.

We never asked the question on Narkle, have cooled on Phillips and currently have a bunch of draft picks for a shallow pool.

No saying I have all the answers and know better than the club, but I just want a bit more to be excited about heading into 2021 without James Sicily and after our worst season in 15 years.

If Phillips wants to come to us he'll have to compromise on his demands so it all depends on how keen/desperate he is to get to Hawks.
Anyone know if he's had any other suitors?

North are throwing money at anything with a heartbeat, so yeah, probably North.

He needs to lower his asking price.
I feel like it’s going to happen.

Does he back himself in next year at Collingwood to be a regular, have a career best year and demand the money (or more) that he wants. Unlikely considering the cap situation at the Pies.

The safe option is to lock in 1.2-1.3 mil over 3 years with a trigger for an extra year with us I reckon

Gee he looks a lot like Sicily in a Hawthorn jumper.
A horrifying mix of Sicily and Harry Morrison

Mate when you've got blokes doing medicals at North and Footscray, it tells you something. Unless we've concealed it from the media, I just don't think we've got any interest in these blokes left on the market.

Gut telling me now, it was always Hartigan and draft picks.

I wouldn't be getting my hopes up for any more than that, unless something turns overnight.
Look you are probably right

Did Hartigan do a medical?
Certainly wasn’t reported
