Doesn't change the fact the draft record since 2017 would be among the worst in the league.

Yes they had average picks but there's barely one proven player. And it's going to look horrific if RCD, Ross and Dow bomb this year.

The confidence in Clarke from some is based on reality from 4-5+ years ago not recently. How can people defend picking 1 mid and no key forward. There is literally no one even developing or ready to play behind a 32 year old Riewoldt. Think about that.

And what guaranteed AFL seniors capable KPF would you have taken? I’m tipping we didn’t rate any of those on the board and decided to look at getting one next year given there’s said to be better quality available then?
Or we have someone lined up as a FA or trade. Either way, I’ll trust them as Hartley’s list management and forward planning is very good

Our flags were won on the back of trades, free agency and drafts from 5-10 years ago.

I am talking about our drafts in the last 4 years.

The same drafts we picked Bolton, Balta, Baker, Stack, Graham
unlucky we lost CJ and Higgins but we got good compo for them. They can't all be stars. No club picks a star every pick of the draft.

2020 we pretty much traded out of
2019 Give Dow some more time.
2018 Not Sold on RCD but happy to wait one more year.

That doesnt change anything really. he is not tall & at 73kg he has a hell of a lot of mass to put on before you could ever imagine him playing as a tall anyway

I’m hoping Banks was picked to play more on a wing. He looks a good runner and user of the ball on the outside.

Spot on. I'm my opinion it's harder for a pure mid to play any other position but a running mid size defender can easily go wing or even the occasional midfield run thru role. I back our recruiters in.

Up until mid season of this year it was a very hard side to get into.Mix it up with Covid its hardly been ideal for any of our kids to show something.Never heard of Sampson Ryan?
You must have missed the suggestion that we may play Gibcus up fwd.
We still have Miller.Oh wait i guess he doesn't fall into your "developing" tall narrative.

Looks like 4 of our 5 picks were around the top 30 mark so nothing out of the ordinary there.

Just that we only have Tom & Jack as key forwards & that’s it ! So I guess there was no one around they wanted to use a pick on or , well I have no idea what the plan is

With 5 picks in the top 30, getting the tall you wanted should have been pretty achievable.

If there was no tall we wanted then that is fine - but you get a back up in the trade period - or even FA period. Even if its just for a short term plan. Be it Brander or even bloody Levi Casboult - if we are legit in the flag race again for 2022, we can't ignore Key forward depth. I'm not even sure how the VFL team will have a forward line atm - who is the key forward there? Ryan and ?

a lack of key forward & ruck depth was a big part of why our 2021 season got derailed and going in with our 2 best back ups gone is a huge risk. What is the plan if Lynch goes down with a knee etc? its basically season over

Baker could do it too. His game against the Giants demonstrated that. 33 possessions, 8 clearances, 6 tackles and 9 inside 50's.

Got displaced off half back and with MJ, now Clarke and Sonsie, may be displaced off the forward flank. Reckonnhe could be our new Axel Foley.

whats your point? So we just don't bother getting back up depth anymore? ridiculous comeback. You have 44 players on your list - having more than 2 key forwards seems pretty logical to me

Stack, Rioli, junior, Bolton, Shedda, Baker, George and Aarts can all run through that small fwd role.
