Which player from our 0-10 gamers if any is most likely to establish a place in the 22 in 21?

At this stage feel like Payne probably most likely. That semi final was superb and showed the sort of versatility we expect from our talls in playing on a small and very quick opponent and shutting him out along with being a very dangerous aerial interceptor. Was massively positive and icing on the cake after him performing so well as a key defender in Andrew's absence. Still think at this stage that third tall spot is Lester's but Payne would have to see it as attainable and wouldn't surprise me to see him become a fixture in the team well before round 22 next year.

Coaching staff always seem bullish on Joyce and would love to see him get a run but might be difficult without a firm second position. Tough going getting a game in our midfield presently if you don't have a second role.

We probably do need another big bodied mid for balance so Ely securing a spot would be a positive, though I kinda feel it's more likely to see Rayner up his mid time and another young player fill forward rotations than that at this stage. Would be awesome to see him have a big pre-season and seize that role.

Dev Robertson to take Robinsons spot

Unless Mitch Robinson pulls an extraordinary season out of his hat, he will likely fall out of the squad early in the season and retire by years end. Despite Lester signing a 2 year contract, I think he will fall into the depth range and Payne will surpass him as the season progresses. Answerth should have been in our finals team last year, and i'm sure in retrospect, Fagan will realise that as well. We need speed coming from the defence, and Answerth offers that more than anyone.

If next year's defence rotations feature Starcevich, Ah Chee, Answerth, Cockatoo and Payne then suddenly there's a fair bit of pace there to balance out our big 3 in Andrews, Gardiner and Rich.

Expecting Keidean Coleman and Jack Payne to become permanent members of the senior side in 2021, of the others under 10 games I agree with jackess, Deven Robertson is the one I'd like to see step up, Tom Fullarton a possibility as well, we may give him a run as the 3rd tall in McStays place.

I think if Daniher is in the side, it blocks out Fullarton from the side... At least for next year.

I think it's Fullarton v McStay for the 3rd tall role, Hipwood a lock and Daniher as well if his body is OK.

That's my thought too, but think McStays ability to play as a high KPF is a big asset to structure as it allows Hipwood to play KPF running back with the flight and Joe to be the marking KPF/ruck chop out when needed. Fullarton is still a few years away from playing McStays role. Definitely has the talent to do it though.

Like to see Kiddy in the back pocket laying strong tackles and breaking lines with the ball served on a platter to our forwards. He was quite good there in the NEAFL

Oh well, on to the 2022 draft.

Quigley did you watch much of our 2021 academy kids this year? Either at QAFL level, or against the Suns in the academy series games?

Any kids your watching out for, or believe might have a shot at being drafted?

I did watch the academy games but I went into those games with set targets to watch and the focus tends to be on those guys. This year it was Abberley, Coleman, Crozier, Michael and Reville who I thought early were the chances to be drafted. Guys can jump out but in a team that was belted that didn't really happen so I don't recall any of the bottom agers really catching my attention.

Similarly in the QAFL this year. Usually I try and watch each reserves game I can get hold of but this year I tended to watch games which people I was interested in. Again I didn't focus at all on next year's group.

We look a tad light on for key position defenders to me, rest of the ground pretty well covered. It will be interesting to see how competitive we are in the new reserves competition.

4 Smith's in the reserves side, Uosis probably the first ever Uosis to be on an AFL list and the first ever Deividas.

Also the reason why I thought we'd go for Highmore in the end instead of Sharp, who lets be honest, will be lucky to get a game in 3-4 years.

With Eagles and Skinner gone, you are right, if two of Andrews, Payne and Gardiner go down, we're pretty vulnerable IMO.

Yer, from the mail out there pre draft when that selection came around I thought we would take Highmore(who ended up going 2 selections later to the Saints), our recruitment team must have had Sharp higher up their power rankings and went for talent over need.

Despite me not liking him in defense I expect McStay will be penciled in as someone who can do a job if needed. A backup line of Adams, McStay, Lester, Ballenden is not terrible.

FWIW as a junior I rated Hipwood as a better defender than forward and I think he could go back in an emergency as well.

McStay could be swung back? Hopefully Adams is fit and battling for a senior spot. I think we could manage but would be tested though most teams would if two of their key backs went down.

Knightmare still does. Same with Ballenden and McStay.

With Ballenden I think he would be best as a ruck. Somewhere where he can make best use of his kicking. Unsure about down back and I thought he looked better up forward as a junior.

I don't recall McStay much from his junior days off the top of my head.

Hipwood was great as a tall marking sweeper at the back. Nobody could get over him, his kicking out of defense was very nice and he moved really nicely to cover space. There was also a world of difference between his marking in defense and up forward. Even as a junior he dropped too many up forward but down back he just seemed to be able to clunk them. It was night and day for some reason.

With Ballenden I think he would be best as a ruck. Somewhere where he can make best use of his kicking.

Based on what? He spends marginal time in the ruck in the 2s and he's shown absolutely nothing there. He doesn't have any propensity for taps and he has zero inclination for the physicality required. Outside the ruck contest he doesn't cover ground or offer support marking.
What do you see that suggests he's a ruckman?

Unsure about down back and I thought he looked better up forward as a junior.

He can't defend, not much good down back.

Sharp will probably struggle to get a game in 3 to 4 years despite deserving to, (another sign of our bad culture) then request a trade, further demoralizing the playing group. Wouldn't surprise me if this is the pivotal moment in a future exodus of players.

Bloody Greg Swann.

Serious question, are you honestly expecting Sharp to get a game in the next 3-4 years given his is slightly built, still in year 11 and a highly speculative pick when the likes of Corey Lyons or Callum Bartlett couldn't get a game in 4 years and the likes of Ely Smith and Tom Joyce will be lucky to get a game despite being in their third years?

You also realise the context of my post was at the surprise of overlooking Highmore, who we'd been linked to, when we are somewhat suspect if a couple of our KPD's go down?

I suspect you would rather just go me personally rather than actually debate my post, which is fine and completely water off a duck's back. Again, if you have an issue, use the ignore function instead of BS smart arse replies.
