Oh wow. That makes getting a deal done with the Dogs even easier.
Totally missed this announcement. Do you have a link so I can read about the details of it?

Draft rules so confusing these days. I've been trying to find info on whether the Mumford/Zac Clarke SSP rule still exists. If it does, in theory if you wanted a previously delisted player you could just tell them not to nominate for the draft and chuck them on your rookie list afterwards. Skinner would be very handy if we could get him for free.
Wouldn’t surprise if it was a special rule made for GWS that Essendon jumped on too

Not going to be much of a difference between band 4 or 5 for Chol compo: pick 38 or 45 ?
By the time Collingwood use picks 39 & 42 for point matching there will be only 5 spots difference between those 2 picks.
If we get say 38 from North for CCJ (worst case) and 45 compo for Chol, we then have:
7, 15, 26, 28, 38, 40, 44, 45.
I'd still bundle 3 of them for Bulldogs pick 17/18. Still gives us 6 decent picks to take to the draft for 4 list spots? (Naish, Houli, Astbury, CCJ, Chol ++Tarrant).
We could then still play the game of live trading picks for future picks for clubs desperate to get back in on the night.
Dogs & Pies will be bare after matching picks. Port & Carlton are also fairly thin around the 30-40 pick mark.
Could be an entertaining night.

That was written before Callaghan moved to the midfield and went ballistic. He had 19, 13 and 24 touches in his first three games, at half-back, then 31, 31, 28 in the midfield to win Sandy's B&F with 76 votes (second got 69). Sinn never had more than 20 touches and finished equal 10th in their B&F with 14 votes.

If you watch them play you see the difference. Callaghan has time and makes space. He's quick, has great spatial awareness of what's around him and a beautiful jink-step. Sinn is a dasher but more of a straight line player.

He'll still be there at 15(17) and I hope we ignore him there too. Sloooow. He had 10 touches yesterday.
You're quite right that the comparison between Sinn and Callaghan was early. However, they both were playing half back so comparison was fair. Sinn was also earmarked to play midfield but was injured and thus missed the opportunity. Callaghan does have poise and spatial awareness, Sinn has blistering pace and a bullet left foot.
Yes I'd choose Callaghan at this stage due to exposed form but would not be surprised if Sinn turns out to be the bigger weapon.

That's a nice collection of picks to have - 8 in the top 50, realistically we will use only 4-5 pick.
I don't really understand the points concept and us getting pick 18 from the Dogs for our picks in the 30s/40s.
Plus Carlton will need its pick 6 for Cerra. to get Port's pick 14 we would have to give 26 & 28.
See what happens, hopefully we are the club everyone wants to talk to !!

Not talking about getting those picks off Port or Carlton. More about them getting to around pick 30 with their next picks in the 60s and us trading a pick to them for 2022 second rounder or something.
The Bulldogs will lose their pick 17/18 ( and more) by matching a top 5 bid for Sam Darcy.
If bid at pick 3 they need 1787 points to match, which includes a 20% discount.
Pick 17 is worth 1025 points, then pick 72 is 17 points. That's currently all they have.
We could trade pick 17 off them for picks 28, 40, 44 - worth 1468 points and the best deal they are likely to get.

Ok, well 3 operations, said it was a bit of a risk, didn't say that he should be delisted.

Unlike what your club did.

I’m extremely disappointed, we drafted him as a key defender, played him forward with 2 game opportunity, 1 against Richmond then delist him without trying him in defence. South Adelaide make Brisbane and North Melbourne look amateur, just by playing him in the position he was drafted. Deserves a chance he hasn’t had yet.

I want strong midfielder with our first two first round picks. A talls after that. Melbourne has become a Grand Final team building a side from the midfield out. We need to rebirth our side doing the same.
Yep that’s where the gap opened up us relative to ladder leaders

If you throw in Pick 26 as well as 28, 40 and 44 you could probably get there first round pick and their second round pick for next year.

I wouldnt be in a major rush to trade these later picks to be honest

We seen last year that clubs were in a position at picks in the late 30's or 40's where a player they liked was available but they didnt have a pick so traded their future picks to grab that player.

Carlton may trade their picks #6 + #25 for Cerra and see a player they rated still available at pick #40 and decide to trade 2022 2nd rounder for our #40
we then have a pick like #28 in 2022 etc.

We could end up with 38,39,40,44 and possibly move them into 2022 ending up with 3 more 2nd round picks ending up with a strong hand in 2022
Richmond have great flexibility with our hand this year
I am more than fine with using the picks we don't plan to use to trade them into next yrs Draft. it'd be nice to get the Dogs pick but is it really worth giving up 3/4 picks to get it when we can play the long game & live trade for future picks? I'd love to get the Pies future 2nd for example & Cats as well Given Pies have to trade players out just to get Daicos it could end up being almost an end of 1st rd pick.
Using this yrs hand & enhancing next yrs hand would be gold for a Club that has won 3 of the last 5 flags now. it'll help us avoid dropping away.

Think we can do both.
Currently we have 6 picks in the top 50. I'm assuming we add 2 more for Chol & CCJ, takes us to 8 picks.
We will need to have 6 spare list spots to take them all to the draft and live-trade.
At the moment we've freed up 4 list spots. Maybe Garth goes. People are mentioning Caddy, but he is contracted and I haven't heard anything suggesting other clubs are interested.
Egg might go, but is a rookie and it's no longer simple to move players from main list to rookie list to make that a main list space.
Pretty sure we can lose 2 picks by trading 3 of them for Bulldogs early pick - I see that extra 1st round pick used on a KPP.
Still have 6 picks to take to the draft. Play it by ear on the night trading some of them to desperate clubs for 2022 overs. Slide some of them down a few places while upgrading next years. Would make draft night much more interesting.

AFL draft 2021: Follow the latest news and top prospects

Covid life has made it tough for Victorian draft prospects to impress AFL recruiters, but club insiders have some good news for the best local talents.

The bulk of the first 40 picks in this year’s AFL national draft are poised to be used on Victorian prospects in a sign that players from the state will not be disadvantaged despite a disastrous two years.
Data compiled by club recruiting departments shows that potential Victorian draftees have played an average of just 6.7 games of football across the past two seasons due to Covid-19 lockdowns.

Injuries to some highly-touted players this year, including the likes of Greater Western Victoria’s Ben Hobbs and Sandringham Dragons pair Josh Sinn and Campbell Chesser, have meant they have played fewer games than the average.

By contrast, most South Australian and West Australian counterparts have played between 20 and 35 matches over the same two-year period, having experienced largely uninterrupted seasons in the SANFL and WAFL.

Some Victorian draft prospects have become increasingly anxious that their limited appearances will see them overlooked for more exposed interstate talent on draft night.

However, multiple clubs spoken to by the Herald Sun said this would not be the case and confirmed Victorian players would feature very prominently in November’s draft.

About 15 of the top 20 picks are expected to come from Victoria, which is also poised to have strong representation in the second and third rounds of the draft.

“We still think their talent is better than what we’re seeing elsewhere,” one recruiter said.

Many Victorian draft prospects took part in Under-16 National Championships in 2019 in addition to the games they have played this year, giving recruiters a level of confidence to select them.

Clubs believe the main difficulty is ranking players on their draft boards.

The top 10 players in the draft are largely agreed upon, but ranking the next 30 picks is considered “messy” due to varying levels of exposure.

Only 59 players were selected in last year’s national draft and clubs expect a similar number of picks to be used this year, with list spots difficult to find.

However, there will be further opportunities for players in the rookie draft, as well as the mid-season draft next year.

Recruiters have been forced to interview Victorian draft prospects over Zoom but are hopeful of conducting more face-to-face meetings with players and parents before the draft as restrictions ease.

It is also hoped Vic Metro and Vic Country sides will compete in some more matches before the draft after the under-18 national championships were pushed back due to lockdowns and state border closures.

Guessing the top 10
Daicos
Horne-Francis
Darcy
Callighan
Hobbs
Ward
Erasmus
Gibcus
Sonsie
Sinn

Lol Vic junior’s still ruling despite no/little footy for 2 years.
Just goes to show how these elite players are monitored by recruiting teams for years.

Not sure the go home factor is such a big thing anymore but if our early picks are home grown talent, can only be a good thing
