Key Off-Season Dates
This is a comprehensive list including dates for draft combines, list lodgements, delisted free agency windows and return to train dates. I had to collate these from three different club websites because the AFL is lazy af and doesn't have it on their website, so thought it might be helpful to share:

FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

Agreed on the need for Key Forwards I think it's something we can overlook quite easily. We can't bank on Hogan to play consistently throughout the year, Riccardi is likely leaving and it wouldn't shock me personally to see Finlayson playing in different colours next year. That leaves us with Hogan, HH, Sproule and Flynn (if he re-signs which I think he will) which isn't enough depth at all, don't think it's an urgent need right away but it's something that should be invested in within the next years with some decent picks.

I dont think TOJ is a worry with leaving with no more info on his personal situation the club granted him the leave he needed to be with his partner and for their childs birth he seems a loyal guy and look at the spotlight and scrutiny on Williams this year he would want to avoid that

I'd be fine seeing Reid, Mumford, Shipley, Hutchesson and maybe Llyod all not be offered contracts. Priority should be re-signing Taranto and doing something long term and hopefully not just a 2 year extension he was elite in the back half of the season despite the kicking issues and Flynn should also be re-signed most of the others I don't think I'd be too worried if they leave. Phil Davis showed enough last night to me that he still has something left in the tank for at least another year plus he's a great leader and a club legend at this point so maybe a 2 year contract would work well for him, although he probably isn't going to be in the best 22 week in week out anymore he'd be great depth and a good character with a wealth of experience to help out the younger guys.

So you would keep Buntine over Lloyd?

16 games 20 goals this year

Nothing needs to be said

Nah you’re right I was probably a bit quick to dismiss Llyod I think Stone should be pushing him for his spot next year however as Llyod has a tendency to fade in and out of games. Buntine’s interesting I wouldn’t care too much which ever way they choose to go with him.

I like Lloyd, he has made his own way and is a good consistent performer. He is a deadly kick and always gives effort.

He’s the kind of fabric player that is inexpensive that’s clubs need. Some might say that of Stein, Sproule and Reid.

With several big ticket items we need guys like this to smooth over our cap.

What about Callum Coleman-Jones from Richmond, does anybody want him ( or only to replace TOJ and/ or Riccardi if they leave). Or if a player leaves, do we use it to help our salary cap by replacing that player with a draftees lower salary.

Not particularly

I'd definetly be intrested but think it might cost a bit much, think he would have a decent amount of intrest around the competition.

The problem for us to get Leek Aleer is Josh Fahey. Even if we traded in advance of draft night to get a second round in the 20-30 region to grab him earlier than others might want to, it would get used up in matching a bid on Fahey. So, we'd have to wait until draft night and manufacture a trade using future picks rather than including a player, which would be much more costly. Or, of course, forego Josh Fahey.

The alternative would be to forego someone at #13, trade back with a club that has two picks in the 20s, so can pay for Fahey & also grab Aleer.

Either way isn't neat for us.

Another option is to select either Jacob Van Rooyen (JVR) or Rhett Bazzo with that #13 (which becomes #15). Or arrange for a trade for a KPD and worry about a longer term KPD next year ... or the year after.

when is Fahey likely to be bid on?

and will we match?

and what can you tell me about him?
15 onwards

We should, one of the better defenders in the pool

Plays in a similar manner to Isaac Cumming but with more strength and distance on his kick early on, probably has more scope to move into the midfield

thanks

when you say 15 onwards is that real or academy hype - a la Marshall & Brander who were both supposedly top 3 while they were in the academy, and we we’re going to rort our way to another top pick - and as soon as they weren’t eligible for matching anymore, mysteriously slipped in the draft order and calculations.

where’s he from?

He's certainly around that point regardless, the issue is the draft is so close from 5-30 that some clusb could legitimately have him in the top 10 and some could have him in the 40's, regardless, as long as we get two picks in prior we should match.

He's a Canberra boy

You think we'll be able to use both our firsts and grab Fahey?

Not as athletic as Cumming.
Player comparisons are the bane of my existence 😂. I was going for more of the; good overhead for height, aggressive runner and user than genuine like for like

Plays like comparisons are hilarious.
No players have all the same skills and attributes.
They are also usually made to superstars, common comparisons are Sam Mitchell, Pendlebury and Buddy
Its mostly because thats the stuff that gets general fans interested and invested moreso than listing a bunch of strengths, and with how much draft nights are now being pumped up the AFL want them interested.
I use it when I'm being lazy 😂

Comparisons are just supposed to give people that don’t follow the draft super closely a rough idea of how these players play and some attributes they may share with other players.
