Jaguars released TE Tim Tebow.
Tebow on Twitter Tuesday morning thanks the team for a chance to make their 53-man roster. In what was likely his last foray in professional football, Tebow, 33, tried to make the team as a tight end. He lasted one preseason game in which he didn't see a target. Signing his longtime buddy was always a questionable move by head coach Urban Meyer, whose first six months as an NFL coach have consisted of nonstop questionable decisions. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, a former Jaguars beat writer, said Tuesday it "was obvious [Tebow] couldn’t play tight end. Any other coach doesn’t even give him a chance." James O'Shaughnessy will likely start the season as Jacksonville's TE1.

Folks who bought Tim Tebow jerseys are out of luck, despite “jersey assurance”

Posted by Mike Florio on August 17, 2021, 10:06 AM EDT

When the Jaguars signed Tim Tebow, his jersey instantly went on sale — and it immediately became the hottest selling jersey in the NFL.

Now that the Jaguars have cut Tebow, those folks who bought the jersey are left holding the bag. Or, more specifically, a jersey that was actually ever worn by the player in one meaningless preseason game, the highlight of which was a half-hearted block followed by an inadvertent helmet in the stomach of a teammate.

Although the league, through Fanatics, provides “jersey assurance,” the fine print becomes very important in situations like this. The program applies to trades only; there’s no protection if the player is cut or retires.

Tebow has been cut. Given that he’s been released in the initial wave of reductions from 90 to 85, he presumably won’t resurface on the practice squad. And thus it appears to be over for Tebow in Jacksonville, weeks before it ever technically started.

It’s hard to feel bad, frankly, for anyone who rolled the dice on a Tebow jersey. There was always a good chance that the tight end experiment would go the way of Peter Brady’s volcano (dated, but applicable).

And of all the people who will be feeling very little sympathy for those who bought the Tebow jersey, the least will be felt by Raiders fans who bought an Antonio Brown jersey in 2019.

The Tebow jersey will be somewhat of a collectable. Like an AB Oakland jersey.

The Panthers have traded offensive tackle Greg Little to the Dolphins, in exchange for a 2022 seventh-round pick (the Dolphins' first seventh-rounder). Little, their 2019 second-rounder, had fallen down the depth chart here, and there was no guarantee he was making the roster anyway.

Falling down a depth chart that sicks as much as ours is hard to do.

Seahawks signed S Jamal Adams to a four-year, $70 million extension through 2025.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the deal includes $38 million guaranteed. Adams had not been participating in Seahawks practice as he waited on the accord, pioneering a new kind of "soft" holdout in an age of punitive fines for the real McCoy. A play-maker at every level of the field, Adams is probably most effective against the run, but he also provides legitimate pass-rushing heat. It is easy to question the Seahawks' level of draft pick investment in the former Jet, but that made this mega deal inevitable. Heading into his age-26 campaign, Adams is the linchpin of a defense that got off to a horrific 2020 start before better player in the second half of the season.

NBC Sports' JP Finlay reports Washington QB Kyle Allen said the team is "trying to push Antonio Gibson into a similar role" as Christian McCaffrey's in Carolina.
It's not the first time we've seen the Gibson-CMC comparison -- one that should trigger involuntary salivation among fantasy managers. Gibson's usage in the Football Team's first preseason game wasn't exactly inspiring though. The second-year back started the game and saw no third-down snaps against the Patriots. Gibson was, however, targeted thrice in limited playing time. He won't require a massive increase in targets or receptions to prove a value in 2021, a year after catching 36 of 44 targets in 14 games (a pace of 50 targets in 16 games). Gibson enters 2021 with as much potential as any second-round RB to blow away his ADP.

Speaking Tuesday, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said he would use the Dolphins' top three backs "situationally" this season.
“We are going to use them situationally as best fits their skill set and what’s best for the team," Flores said, building on comments he made Monday. "Myles Gaskin can play first, second, third down, but depending on the situation, we may put another player in there. Malcolm Brown is a little bigger, what you may consider a power back. Myles is change of pace, good quickness. Salvon Ahmed has good speed, coming out of the backfield. They all played well in the preseason game.” Calling Gaskin a "change-of-pace back" is not a comforting compliment for anyone who has drafted him this summer, even if Flores' words followed an initial salvo about his ability to play all three downs. Flores' Patriots Way quotes are adding some confusion to the mix, adding a boom/bust element to Gaskin at his current ADP.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Chase Claypool avoided major injury after going down awkwardly at the end of Steelers practice on Tuesday.
Claypool had to be helped off the field after going down on the second-to-last play of practice, but the initial returns were thankfully promising. It is still possible he undergoes more testing out of an abundance of caution. It is also highly unlikely he suits up for Saturday's preseason tilt against the Lions. Claypool's status should be updated again before the weekend.

Saints signed WR Kevin White, formerly of the 49ers.
White flamed out after four seasons in Chicago and has yet to get his career back on track. He signed with the Cardinals following his time with the Bears but was unable to crack Arizona's final roster. White then spent his 2020 season with the 49ers but only appeared in three games and failed to record any receiving stats. He'll serve as a depth option for the Saints' extremely thin receiving room but is still far from a lock to make their final roster.

49ers claimed DB Davontae Harris off waivers from the Ravens
A 2018 fifth-round pick for the Bengals, Harris has played for three teams in his first three seasons as a pro. His high-water mark was a 429-snap season with Denver in 2019. The 49ers still have a Richard Sherman-sized hole on their cornerback depth chart, but Harris is more of a potential depth piece who might be able to squeeze his way onto the roster by impressing on special teams.

Giants acquired CB Josh Jackson from the Packers in exchange for CB Isaac Yiadom.
The No. 45 overall pick of the 2018 draft, Jackson managed just 331 defensive snaps for the Pack last season and has not been on the field for more than half the plays since his rookie season. The Packers re-signed Kevin King and used a first-round pick on CB Eric Stokes in the offseason. Jackson has the size to play outside but has not demonstrated the speed or agility he was thought to have coming out of Iowa. If he doesn't impress the Giants in a hurry his agent might be setting up workouts in September.

im actually shocked he lasted this long. Just doesnt have the speed. and it shows, gets beat too often.

The Tebow cut kinda pisses me off. He was never going to make the team and would of struggled to make it past the first cut. It was just a PR stunt which worked for the jags, they sold all the season tickets within a week of the signing.

But it took a roster spot from a legit bubble player who could of made a roster either here or elsewhere by having a good camp. and ever snap that Tebow took in practice is a snap taken away from another TE in the camp fighting to make the roster

Maybe a change of scheme/scene to suit his zone abilities can bring out success? Its like a CB i cant remember his name, some years ago, who sucked when used in predominantly man coverage at one team, and older he was, but to a new team who played mainly Tampa 2 he had a great time there. Whats his name??

At least Meyer's camp was not a circus. Not once did Tebow get interviewed or allowed to be interviewed, and it was all just a tryout, give him a shot, he failed, see ya. Maybe Tebow asked for a last chance. Old has beens keep getting given chances due to previous relationship with someone.
