When you put it that way 🤣

That pathetic Stepho effort is still fresh on my mind..

Yeah I feel dirty I chased it last week and got Steph in. I knew it'd blow up in my face but that bloody round 1 fomo gets me every year. It's so hard to make a decision off 1 game.
... and now I might do the same error again and chase the points with Hind (Caldwell -> Hind one of the only moves I can probably do this week... Unless I get Walker).

So I'm basically the captain of the titanic at this point.

Oh god... No one could've predicted that fall from grace.

Not sure who is more of a lemon for 2021.. ROB or Gaff. There'd be those with both. Fortunately I only have one... but shipping him on this week (Gaff). So I fully expect a return to form 120+ from Gaffy this week.
I keep looking back at ROB's stats from last year and shedding a tear.. but yes no doubt, no this week he returns to triple figures (funnily enough - he is against Witts)

The question is - who do you bring in that will increase in value more than 40 - 50K in the next few weeks ?

Gotta be Walker doesn't it? Even if he scores consecutive 50's, he'll still go up by about 50-60K over the next few weeks. He just has to step onto the park, and you've already made money

True, but at 160K more than Campbell.... Which rookie or close to rookie price players are going up that much ??

I just can't trust Campbell, and at least I know Walker has averaged 80+ in the past, and has a very good fixture coming up. Campbell goes at 46 Week 1, then 73 in the first half against the Crows when the Swans were dominant, then 23 in the last half, when the Crows started getting on top (which would have made it 46 for the game had he gone at that pace in the first half).

Up against the Tiges this week, the Swans won't be dominant in possession and general game play, so I see him going 60 at most this week, which means he only gains 30K and he starts plateauing again. Walker has far more upside IMO, as he just has to score a 70 for 3 weeks against very weak defences, and then you can easily upgrade him to a decent premo.

Wasn't even on my radar, until I saw his BE was -4, and the draw he has coming up is just mental - GC, North, Freo, Hawthorn and GWS (all likely bottom 8 sides except for Freo who still has a completely depleted defence)

Alright Shadow89 i know you are high on him so sell me on Bowes. Loved his role so far and i want to jump on, convince me!

I keep umming and ahhing about him right now, just because Zilliams (who even though he played like crap, still attended the 2nd most CBA's last week, so the role is there) and Hardwick are that much cheaper. With that said, I'm still picking him in my 'just for fun' team, as he takes the most kick in's, is averaging 30 disposals, and demands the ball coming out of defence, ala seagull Lloyd. Loves a +6, and as a former mid, gets up the ground and distributes, rather than just playing a lock down role. Reckon he gives Top 6 a decent push, and goes at least 90 for the rest of the year :)

(also this article made me pretty 'thirsty' too, haha):

JACK Bowes is set to thrive in his new permanent home as part of the Gold Coast Suns’ defensive unit, with the Cairns product challenging himself to achieve greater things as he takes on more responsibility as a leader.
The former Saints junior is entering his fifth season in the AFL, and it is one in which the 23-year-old will be out to cement his place as one of the Suns coach Stuart Dew’s key men.

Despite his youth, Bowes has become something of a leader alongside veteran and fellow Cairns product Jarrod Harbrow in the Suns’ relatively inexperienced defensive unit, and the man who went with pick No. 10 in the 2016 AFL Draft is expecting more out of himself than he’s produced in any previous campaign.

“I’m heading into my fifth year now, as you get older you gain a lot more responsibility,” Bowes said.

“I guess as a leader, a person who should be consistently performing week in, week out. I’m going to hold myself to that all year, to have a consistent season in which I play my role each week.

“When the team needs me to stand up, I’m sure I’ll be able to do that for them. Especially down the backline.

“From a games played point of view there’s Harbs who’s had 250+ AFL games, then there’s me with about 60 games. So I’ve taken on a leadership role back there with Sam Collins, one of our vice captains.

“We’ve got to lead the back six back down there, make sure we gel together nicely and play as a solid unit."

“They’re my two roles, and if I keep doing the stuff off the field, it should take care of itself.”

Bowes is listed as a midfielder across most AFL websites, but a shift to the defensive unit last season proved fruitful in what was ultimately a lean campaign.

It’s the position he has now made his home, and while he showed flashes of what he’s capable of at the back in 2020, he will become even more influential now he has completed an entire pre-season in the position.

“I’ve played a lot of midfield growing up in the juniors and in my third year spent some time there,” Bowes said. “But I think the best thing for myself and the team was with the balance of it all.

“We obviously have a lot of young exciting mids, good experience through there and some good speed.

“Dewy really values my role off half back and what I can do from a team point of view back there, especially for the younger guys.

“He’s really seeing myself as one of the key parts down back so I’ve had to take that and adapt to that.

“I played a bit of half back in my first year which helped as well, but I really enjoyed the role last year.

“I didn’t actually get to do a preseason down there last year because I was training with the mids but this year I got a full preseason with the backline, and that’s has helped a lot with the continuity and hopefully I’ll be able to add some more things to the game.”

P.S. let's go the reverse and you tell me about Hardwick, haha. I know you said his 135 was way way overs, but he still had a 91 Round 1 with Day in the team, which is very solid. Has a BE of 13, and could make a lot of money even if he goes at around 75-80 (which I'd be fine with). Does he have that 'distributor' role that SicDawg had, or is he still more lockdown and just getting cheap possessions in the back pocket?

Doesnt bode well. Might have to get rid of Heppell

Back disc issues are no joke, and he could be out for months - see Hawkins when he had all his issues and it took him forever to get right. Dons know they're not playing finals this year, so it would be irresponsible for them to push him when they're gonna have a crap year anyway

I'm exactly the same on Campbell. Hadn't picked him to start but after this week he should get plenty of outside easy touches with that run.
Also he started taking a fair few kick ins which will hopefully pad his score a bit against Richmond.

I'm trading in Brayshaw also for his draw. Carlton, Hawthorn, Adelaide and North coming up is just a stupidly easy. He should also have reasonably low ownership for a bit which is important for me with my current ranking.

So Dow and Caldwell for Campbell and Brayshaw

I also have a bit of a theory of setting my midfield for the next few weeks while my 3 on field rooks mature in price and then see what happens with DPP at rd 6.

Was ranked 166th after round 1 and now ranked 188th. That is with Gaff still!!
Gaff has one more week and then I will look at options. Got plenty of DPP options so even at his price he could become Hardwick, Crisp or Dunkley

Hardwick i am torn on because he is clearly value and you can ride that break even for a week or two at worst and make some coin.

The positives - With both Day and Sicily gone he is clearly our best kick down back. Sure as shit will want it in his hands over Frost, Hatrigan, CJ, Impey. I have also always wanted us to use him more offensively because he is capable. Back to back really good scores and the low BE as mentioned before.

The only one concern i have is Scrimshaw will come in for Day who will play that exact role. Now it did not impact his scoring in the 4th quarter but who knows if it will once Scrimshaw settles in to the role.

I think at that price it really can not go wrong, worst case he makes some money and you move him on in a few weeks. I am just not sure if he outscores someone like Clark by much.

Ahhhh true...Scrimshaw is a huge spanner in the works, as he will definitely take some points away. I already have Clark so it's all good, haha. Will take a bit of pondering this week, but, it's currently between him and Zilliams at the moment, due to the role being there and him attending the second most CBA's behind Walsh.

Btw, edited my comment to include the Bowes article (to give you some more info :) )

Sounds like you're still a fair bit more positive about Campbell than me :p haha. Definitely agree with what you're saying, but the way I see it, is that I have enough spare cash either way, so if Campbell proves better value over the next couple of weeks/scores similar to Walker, I can always go from Walker to him and ride his BE instead - as they should both appreciate at a similar price given their respective BE's of -4 (Walker) and -2 (Campbell) :)

Is Evans' JS ok for Cats? Or just in until Danger is back? Looking instead at a cheap rookie downgrade for Dow in order to get Caldwell up to Brayshaw.

EDIT: Eh, **** it. I'll just do Gaff > Brayshaw and Caldwell > Campbell. Dow will hit his BE this week most likely and I can ditch him next week. This fixes Gaff, banks a chunk of money to upgrade Dow to possibly Dunkley next week.

I see the value in Walker, but with what I am doing I cannot get him at the moment - although perhaps Stephenson becomes him next week...

We (Geelong board) want Evans to play the whole season I reckon, but he's no guarantee to play on longer than this week (given our returning players from this round to Round 5 onwards, is nuts. It's no guarantee even Clark stays in after Round 5 or 6 tbh. With Duncan, Menegola, Danger, J. Cameron, Ratugolea and possibly even Simpson all to come back in, they're both gonna have to play very very well to keep their spots. Clark is looking likely, but Evans has to displace/keep out all of Miers, Dahlhaus and Simpson when he's fit, to keep his spot.

Your above plan is very very good, and deffs one that I would do over getting an iffy rookie like Evans in :)

Boy oh boy what to do with Gaff.
Feel I have to just ride it out.
Caldwell > Dunks is locked in.
I'm waiting a week, although if Caldwell wasn't injured he would be out for me.
With plenty of DPP options in my def and fwd I will trade him to someone like Dusty, Dunkley, Mills or Crisp next week

The problem with that (as with Stephenson) is other crap is going to happen in the next fortnight. There will be more injuries, more suspensions, more mid pricer duds etc etc.

I need to firmly keep myself away from walker no matter how enticing it is. If (when) he inevitably returns to his 50-70range I'll likely be stuck with him for weeks longer than I'd like.

Eg: same as Kmart dusty, Stephenson, Sholl, Steph, Tyson, now Hind...

I'm also leaning toward giving Gaff one more week. It looks like Shuey is a good chance to play, which I think will benefit Gaff.

I'm also giving Taranto another week, and hopefully fixing up the last of my dud rookies in Bruhn. Clark gets one more week as he's playing Hawthorn, and Fullarton should get the number one ruck this week. This leaves Jones to become a 170K first gamer.

If I can avoid forced trades again next week, I should be able to start getting a couple of mid prices up to premos.

People who have seen Port games this year what has Butters role been like? Needing a slightly cheaper option for Worpel but an nervous that Port have beaten up on possibly the 2 worst teams in the league. His scoring sustainable?

Will also add in Cerra as well as i have seen about 20 minutes of Docker games.

None of those were in the -4 BE range though. That's the difference, they all scored well in their first week, but not two weeks in a row (except for Hind who I started with and I'll probably keep for a lot of the season). Having a -4 BE means that he only needs to score in that 50-70 range for a few weeks, to make you over 100K. The risk is far different that it is with guys who only had 1 good week, and thus their BE was still in that positive range
