Having not really done this before, I used my non forced trades to sideways at the higher end rather than fixing my bench. Lesson learnt for next year.

Possibly. Some will argue that you do what you have done - so you keep points maximised. My concern (this year) is the cash generation and trying to get a completed side. Only time will tell what the best option is....

Except my sideways trade ended up something like 40-60 points per week different and $200k apart in value lol

Oh look at me fancy pants over here having ‘non forced trades’

So I am slightly worried F. Macrae doesnt get named this week which given the state of my bench (probably only Kozzy plays this week) puts my get J. Macrae at all costs trade week in jeopardy. My current trades only leaves me $15k so unless anyone can see potential trades I can't (Flynn to Bryan wouldnt work) I think I am just going to sweat on team news an hope I can begin repairing my bench next week.

Generally better off fixing rooks than swapping premos with short term injuries.

But that said.. that strategy hasn't worked all the time this year.

I traded out Kosi for Burgess when I had a free trade.. Kosi is going to make more money than Burgess..

The rookie situation is pretty dire that there's no point swapping donuts out for a questionable rookie that could be a donut next week. Better off fixing the big guns in that scenario.

Also timing has been an issue with some things. I had to trade either Kosi or Player X at one point - couldn't afford to wait for teams - so Kosi went.

Obviously this is before he then scored 100 while Jones - who I traded in - then got injured and was traded out last week....

Cost me two trades to make my side worse and reduce in value....

Its not sexy but I think you'll need to spend at least the next 2x weeks only targeting rookie fixups. At the very least 3 or your next 4 should be rookie fixups.

I would hold Serong.

Your biggest issue is you have no depth on the bench and that needs fixing asap. You have valid concern for Macrae, I agree he could get dropped this week.

Second issue and still a high priority will be your R2 spot. But for now I think you can run Campbell there and hope Flynn returns in the next couple of weeks to buy you a little more time. Bryan probably doesnt change much so I think skip him and target rookies in other positions for now.

On the plus side, Your donut rookies have potential to come back. Treacy, Brockman are a good chance. Martyn is an outside chance. Downie/Gould will debut eventually so I think you'll just have to hold those 2 long term till they play.

I would suggest:

Trade1) Rowe -> Riley Collier Dawkins by swinging Brockman forward. Rowe is going to get dropped soon, likely this week. And has peaked.
Trade 2) Fanta -> Byrnes. By swinging Cox to your backline, and sidebottom to your forwardline.

Play RCD and Byrnes on field.

Those moves will nett you almost $500k for next week to fix your R2 dilemma. (Campbell or Flynn -> Grundy). Plus another rookie fixup.

I cringe looking back at early round trades. More often than not they make your team worse and you're undoing those moves by round 3-7.

It was a big flaw in my game in previous years so I made a concerted effort to improve on that this year. In the end it didnt really matter as the first 5 of my 6 trades were forced. My first "luxury" trade.. I traded kosi to burgess and cooked it... haha

Forced trades keeps me from stuffing up..

Same here. I've had the usual collection - Rowell, Danger, Witts, Dunkley, Butters, Dusty - then rookies like Parks, Jones etc - I've just been shuffling players without really getting anywhere so far...

I think my squad from an output perspective and my talent ID has been good - just actually being able to make those trades has been difficult.

Good to know I'm not the only one paddling around in circles! haha.
Hard to gain any momentum with the current cash gen. Hard to justify swapping out donuts too as it seems far more important to get some cash in the kitty with one trade per week, then make an improvement with the other.

Meek still sitting idle in my utility spot...
Highmore still at D8.
I think I'll just have to hold both long term hoping one of them gets a game. The second I trade them they'll play no doubt.
