Rayner interview up. Well spoken as always & looking very fit.

My lid is off & I predict Rayner to have a Petracca type breakout year (I actually don't believe that, but stuff it, it's still fun saying it).

That boy has a future in the media if he wants it, speaks so clearly, is comfortable in front of the camera the bit where he says, "as I said before working on the chemistry" just shows his clear thoughts and is not nervous tossing out the cliches

Many many people didn't have that opinion. He came back in better shape last year, but he was coming from the back of the pack. He wasn't playing midfield over preseason, nor was there any talk about him playing midfield during last season.

I actually haven't seen a lot of pictures of him to know if he looks leaner or anything. I'm going completely off the fact that he was training with the likes of Berry and Hugh and completing the running with those guys, which he wasn't able to do in previous years. The fact that he has been reported as coming back much fitter, training in the midfield (which is a significant change for him) and having this continue right into practices games. Does this mean he is 100% going to smash it this year, no. However we have been waiting for him to be able to play some significant midfield minutes, and it very very much looks like he finally has the fitness behind him to do that. This is why there has been some hype about him.

I think, for want of a better term, Rayner has a Geelong style body shape. He is a bit like a rugby leave player, big legs, low centre of gravity, lots of power in the back end. He can look leaner up top but yet have put more muscle on blow. Siting about the Geelong warm up area last year in the finals their body shapes are similar, the group of us were all surprised to see the size of their players particularly from the waist down through the legs. It's clear they have a different focus in the weights room and no wonder the out muscle other teams. I'm glad Rayner is playing more midfield with his shape, he is/will be what we wanted CEY to be. Neale is a smaller version but similar in that lower centre of gravity that can keep the legs pumping. I'd like to see another in there as well, maybe Starc will go in there next year he is the only other one I can think of.

Didn’t know you needed to post every few days to have an opinion. Rayner would have been one of the most talked about players last pre season, he came back from disappointing 2019 a lot leaner and a lot stronger, yet didn’t finish in the top 15 BnF. I’m a Rayner fan, I think supporters need to dull down expectations on the the guy.

I agree with this, he looks fitter, bigger, sharper then last year with a clear goal to play more midfield minutes. However you have a very short memory if you weren’t saying the same thing when he rocked up last preseason looking super lean and super strong compared to the year before. I hope he can break though for his first top 15 BnF, just think supporters need to dull down expectations on him.

I certainly wasn’t saying the same thing about Rayner last year. You are being very general here and look a bit silly making statements like ‘we all’. You are fine to have an opinion, but seems like you were speaking for ‘everyone’. The major difference is his potential mid role. He has certainly improved his strength, professionalism and endurance, but his role will play a major factor in his improvement going into 2021.

Won’t be long til he’s caught out by the testers if he resorts to that.

That's your insinuation not mine. Rugby League is now dominated by players with Islander heritage that have the bigger legs and thighs and a lower centre of gravity. For other not bless with that nature build it can be achieved in the gym with hard word like Geelong I mentioned.

I think FFB1 was being a bit sarcastic about your use of the word Blow

Certainly when you typed “blow”, I did a double take and thought you were insinuating cocaine.

Interesting to note from yesterday also that Payne was in the first team and Adams was in the reserves, which shows Payne will probably get the nod for round 1.
Payne's AFL development, no doubt like a lot of young blokes (Cam in 2019, Starc early games in 2019/2020) wont be linear, but unless he has a few consecutive shockers, then he should be backed in. Adams would have to be playing really well in the VFL, and that comp does not start until 4 weeks after the AFL.
Apparently Suns were very short of KPD's yesterday, wonder if Adams (if he comes good) or even Payne (if not backed in by the Lions) end up at the Suns? With Fullarton appearing to be in front of Ballenden perhaps Connor might find a spot on the Suns?

Apparently Madden caught the eye yesterday, has that speed which is hard to ignore as a spectator. If his disposals and kicking has improved maybe he is a strong candidate for a debut sometime in 2021. I still think Brich will be picked for the first 6 or so rounds, until some of the young guys get a chance to show their development in the VFL.

Appears Ely ahead of Dev, and glad to see Ely being rewarded for a good off season and preseason.

We have a really good medical team, I think they can at least make sure he stays together ;)
yeah hope he can string together a few games, but the last two years with us and then with the Dogs he has been injury prone. Appears in the photos to have lost a bit of upper mass so that might help

Adams could be a bust but we’ve had so much good fortune in other areas so yanno..
Some guys are just unlucky. Daniher has only played a few games in 3 years. McCarthy was completely injury prone until he got up here and has hardly missed a game.

It's a demanding game physically , sometimes it's just on thing after another. Let's hope Adams can string a few games together and not have flukey things happen to him which has been the case a couple of times so far.

I seem to recall a few doggies fans remarking that with his injuries, their club constantly asked him to ease up at the gym and trim down a bit, and Adams wasn't keen on the idea... Of course, gotta take that with a grain of salt, but still... If he has finally trimmed down a bit, that should definitely help reduce his injuries...

Something to do with the Gabba I reckon.

They're upgrading some seats, the location is to be announced as the G Spot.

Unfortunately no one will be able to find them.
