Has any training watches noticed Answerth, think he had an injury late last year. Also how is Payne and Ballenden training. Has Ballenden put on a bit of muscle in the off season?
Was training with the rehab group last Wednesday.

Didn’t notice Payne.

Ballenden appears to have lost his baby fat, looks leaner in the face, but doesn’t look to have bulked up from my one session this preseason.

Yer I haven't noticed Jack Payne there in the 2 training sessions I have been to either, hope all is fine with him, you wouldn't think he would be putting in extra weight sessions.

I sadly don't have paywall but it quotes on the summary.

"Nakia Cockatoo is yet to miss a pre-season session with Brisbane since last year’s trade and is expected to be in the frame for his first AFL game in 1083 days in Round 1".
I mentioned last year on the Daniher thread on the trade forum, long before we were linked with him, that I thought he would “ mail in” in the season, effectively sit out the whole season “injured”, and rock up the his new team pretty much fully fit.

It was reported on the Cats board that Cockatoo was fit last season, played in the reserves, but his club knew he was moving at the end of the year, so didn’t pick him to play in the senior team.

Then just before finals, Cockatoo went and had hand or finger surgery.

Basically both players were fit, played just enough at Senior level (Daniher) and reserves level (Cockatoo) for us to watch them and decide both players were worth the risk.

And hopefully both become great acquisitions for our team in the future as both can bring so much to our team like all the other trade targets we have got these past 3-4 years.

CEY???

Yeah I think him and Adams are two I still have question marks over but two things:

1. Every successful club over the past 20 years has had trade flops in their period so no club can have a 100% success record at the trade desk.

2. Even if they don't play in the starting 22 doesn't mean they are a flop on the trade result. They could be a very decent reserves player for us to help us improve the younger guys (Roberston, Joyce, E.Smith) in the squad in the Reserve Grade and even if they do get picked in the starting 22, he could do a serviceable job for us for that match before returning back into the reserve level.

Like Fages quotes all the time to the media:

"Lineups win Matches, Squads win Premierships"

We will definitely get misses, without a doubt.
If Adams Remains fit, I think Fages will pick him because he does offer a bit but there is some genuine competition there now.
I would much prefer to see either Payne or Lester ahead of him at this stage.
With CEY we know what little we r gonna get.

At least we know we have suitable depth if we ever did get injuries now compared to the past couple of years when we were bottom 4 most years.

Especially with teams now having 5-6 day breaks due to Covid and all that, it is important to have more than 22 players in your whole squad to contest for a premiership these days given how advanced the competition has become in on a on-field performance basis.

Goes a little further in the article to say that they’re managing his workload so he’s getting pulled in and out of some of the skills drills so as not to overwork him.

seems like a really smart approach from the club which I know they’ve done before for others , gives players a chance to build that base and then slowly increase over time.

That could be a concern as he had some shin issues in 2018, hopefully not too much into it

That sounds good for me. Hopefully he can become good again like he was before.

Thanks for the info :)

I was hopeful Ballenden might put on a couple of kilos of muscle and push hard for that back up ruck/pitch hit forward role, but Daniher and Fullarton coming on probably makes it challenging.

He did play in the senior team though, and didn't impress. If Ely gets a run, doesn't look good and then gets traded away I won't be annoyed, it's only if he never gets a chance after being talked up that I'd be annoyed.
Like that hasn't happened before...Cal Bartlett, Matt Tyler, Bart McCulloch to name a few.

Boys will be training at Morningside from 4-6pm on Friday with an expected intra club hit out.

Id be keen in checking out the hit out! Do they normally take place at the beginning or end of a session? Is this gonna be at the field near hawthorn road?

The Wednesday avo session last week it was at the end.
Didn’t start until around 5.30 last week.
The park runs between Hawthorne and Riding Rds but closer to Riding rd

So can we expect tomorrows session to be at Yeronga or Morningside
If so AM or PM
Had planned on trying Yeronga at 7.30am for some photos
Coming from Everton Park so any educated guess would be appreciated

For the lst 2 weeks, Wednesday’s have been afternoons but with this Friday being an afternoon session they may train in the morning tomorrow.
So you might get lucky. 🤞

The club has said that McFayden is on the injury list so if there is anything wrong it is probably not very serious.
