Ah Cripps, you’ve done it again
Anyone else going to get sucked into starting him? Of course he goes 140 tonight while guys like Steele and Titch have been pretty quiet in preseason. I know I should just stay strong but I have a feeling I’m going to blow my team up and start a bunch of underpriced guys. Cripps, Cerra, Lipinski, Rowell….
Makes me sick Cripps... have to start with him now...with no walsh, watch him get heavily tagged and refuse to tackle once the season starts

I picked him up late in my draft league, hopefully that’s enough to satisfy the temptation for me. I’m trying to convince myself it’s largely inflated with 4 goals also. However he’s an alternative to Crouch/Serong for those who like to differ from main stream.

From the game last night, I’m now confident with Hewitts selection. Cant expect him to keep the disposal count up, but the roles is there and tackle count should improve in the season proper.
Cerra looked the goods, and showed he’s worthy of selection, just not for me. Kennedy could be a trap, he’s the one likely shifted when Walsh returns.
McGovern peaked my interest somewhat, looks to have a fairly fantasy friendly role. Just don’t think there’s enough upside for me personally.

I’m coming back around to Gawn, Jackson won’t effect his scoring, as he will still pick up points around the ground. Witts currently in my side, but think I’ll be reshuffling.
Petrecca and Oliver done enough.

Nothing much on the rookie front, Durdin looked reasonable, but even if he didn’t go off injured I wouldn’t have viewed him as a must have.

as predicted, the big premos I selected continue to show nothing much. Titch not named to play this week, how can we pick him now? Neale could end up M2 if I'm not careful

Cripps has made it into my team and my midfield is ****en ridiculous = Macrae/Neale/Serong/Cripps/Lipinski/Rowell/Berry/Daicos

Forwards are great too = Dunkley/Treloar/Dusty/Butters/Cogs/Ralphsmith

Rucks im taking a punt on a cheapie to partner Grundy. My backline is pretty weak but Milera is D6. For some reason this year it feels like i have way too much money as there are so many high end mid-pricers who are massive value so im not going for the real top dogs in any position.

I think my forwardline is awesome and i have no desire to get Taranto/Duncan types because im so confident in the value of the high end mid-pricers/low end premiums. Getting Dunkley/Treloar/Dusty/Butters/Cogs for their prices is brilliant as i genuinely think all of them will average 5-10% or more (Cogs in particular) higher than their price point. Even if they dont average more, with the extra trades and trade boosts i think i have options. I can downgrade to a gun rookie or upgrade to a gun or even just keep one as F7 cover.

I think its a combination of having so many mid-pricers that i deem value this year, but also the 5 extra trades is massive. Combined with being able to make 3 trades in any given week, i feel so confident in taking punts on speculative mid-pricers. If anything, i may over adjust and be too aggressive but im happy to risk that.

The peace of mind that comes from being able to make an extra trade prior to round 3 lets me make 2 more speculative selections than i would feel comfortable with, if trading was still the same as last year. That is huge! I wont say i like the fact that there are extra trades and trade boosts but it actually is making my team more unique when the common thinking might be the opposite because those that go Guns n Rookies will have more trades to get "the perfect team" but at least to start the season i think it has caused me to change strategy and to be bolder, not safer. That mentality, can lead me down a bad path or a great one.

That said, with 35 trades and the DPP changes i think teams will look very similar by the end of the season but maybe-just maybe-if people take on my mentality, initial teams could be more varied.... or at least i can dream

It really all depends upon how many rooks present themselves prior to round 1. If we have numerous to choose from, then guns & rooks is still a great option. If not, a more mid priced structure may be the go.

I agree to an extent. More rookies definitely means guns n rooks is an option but the more rookies there are, the more likely you are to have decent downgrade options after having a look for 2 rounds. In my opinion, that can also favour taking risks on more mid-pricers because you know you likely have a great backup plan for the mid-pricers that fail. With more trades, i am favouring mid-pricers because im backing myself to pick correctly about 2/3rds of the time and the other 1/3 of mid-pricers that completely fail, can be downgraded to the right rookie. Say i pick 10 mid-pricers, 3-4 will fail and if i can correctly downgrade the ones that fail after 2-3 rounds and keep the successes, i think ill be very happy.

Obviously, with guns n rookies, you can still chop and change rookies but i think if you do a strict guns n rookies save for maybe 1 or 2 mid-pricers....you put yourself in a position where you cant easily get on the gun mid-pricers after a few rounds as your only option is to downgrade a premium...if you start with more mid-pricers you have more options with trades as you can sideways, downgrade, upgrade etc and with more trades and trade boosts, the more options available the better.

So you are definitely right about structure being determined by amount of rookies but i also think that is slightly less true this season given more trades. I could be completely wrong though. That is the great thing about it, we wont know until the pre season is a distant memory and we can be hindsight heroes.

I certainly look to be starting more mid pricers now than was planned a few weeks ago.

I think a fair hybrid strategy will be best but if i had to pick MPM or GnR id go with MPM given the extra trades. Could be wrong though, ill watch this weekends games closely and see if there are enough standout rookies to feel confident fielding them over a speculative mid-pricer. Extra trades aside, i still think there are more legitimate mid-priced options than last season, but i could be looking through rose coloured glasses. Time will tell

The biggest issue with having too many mid pricers is the lack of cash generation. Very hard to upgrade to a completed side without generating enough cash.
I learnt this lesson once before 5-6 years ago.

Hello lads and ladies, I am wondering if there is any site you can play AFL classic / real dream team / fantasy with no rolling lockouts? I prefer full lock out at the start of each round. Having said that, I would consider playing with partial lockouts. Cheers!

I'm with ya Jim Mac. Unfortunately they have all gone to a full rolling lockout. The only comp you can play that can have a full lockout is Ultimate footy but they only play a draft format.

How many of the “big4” are people planning on starting (Touk, Steele, Macrae and Titch, Lyons I just don’t view in there league with Neale returning)

I could start two, but with the lack of forward and defender rookies options, Im planning for only one at this stage. I’m starting to lean towards Macrae over Steele also, Macrae has the best fantasy game in the league IMO, just so consistent. Steeles easy start to the year worries me, as he could potentially jump off to a flyer though.

I'm starting with both Steele and Macrae.

Yeah, I've got Steele and Macrae too.

Squeezed Ralphy in. Feels like I'm making big changes now with some of these injuries. Lippa out?
