You also had Z.Guthrie as your pick in the 'how's he still on a list' thread so would imagine you don't watch us often.

To be fair wasn't half your board wanting Z.Guthrie delisted last year! He’s had an improved year to be fair to him

Dylan Moore's had a better year, and he's not in the 40 man squad. Kicked less goals though, admittedly, but plays in a much poorer side too.

I think Moore has been the 3rd best half forward flanker this year (unfortunately, they only picked 2 - Bolton and Heeney). Stengle is probably the 2nd best forward pocket this year (behind Cameron). The real howler is Papley who missed 6 games. Moore kicked 26 goals, just like Papley, but did so playing further up the ground so his possessions, tackles, score inmvolvements and general influence dwarfs that of Papley. Papley gets picked cos Sydney finish 3rd and they "need" more than 1 or 2 in the squad. Unlucky for Moore but he would have only been in the 2nd side anyway.

I don't know how Stengle got in the 40 man squad.

Is that a serious post?

I wouldn’t pick him in the 22 but he was never ever going to miss the squad. Ranked second of all small forwards for goals, and second of all small forwards for score involvements and had enough assists to be reasonably productive. Was never ever going to miss the squad given his output

No, a vocal minority did but I think most people realised he could at least be serviceable

Zac Guthrie’s biggest crime was probably being played when he first was as he clearly wasn’t ready but I guess that’s what happens when you try and shoehorn some young guys in with mostly older teammates - they look out of their depth.

2017-20 yeah but last year he turned the corner and was one of the very few who actually played well in the PF.
This is why list manager's are not all cut from the same cloth. Persistence and sticking with certain players is why us BF folk are couch bums and they're selecting guys on draft night not us.

For reference; most of our fans on here melted hard we overlooked Devon Robertson and Brodie Kemp to reach for De Koning. A lot melted that we traded a future first to reach for Holmes...

So hardly worth more than a grain of salt what the masses think.
Is he still on your list?
Yes.

Back to the topic you started by wondering how he got in the 40 man squad. Goals for forwards are always weighted heavily.
Yes in most stat categories (from AFL.com.au) Moore is rated elite which bodes well for future seasons but you're surprised a player averaging 2.1 goals a game gets in over someone going at 1.2 goals a game most likely as he gets more supply in a top team.

The AA system has always favoured top teams. Otherwise North and the Eagles would have 4+ noms for the squad.

Fair enough I just remember the “not Z Guthrie again” posts it was a bit funny I guess

Look I’ll put my hand up and say that there was a game against Hawthorn where Roughead took a mark and goaled to win the game and I went off my head in the moment that we had put him in our backline but yeah rebuilding on the run that sort of thing will happen and a lot of people spoke about what sort of potential he had once he filled out a bit and they were on the money

#00001 in his fan club from day dot.
Saw his qualities early days in the ressies.

Apologies if this was already posted in here.

Only 2 players this season averaged over 20 touches and more than a goal a game.

Marcus Bontempelli
Dylan Moore

The more I think about Tom Papley making the EXTENDED squad over Moorey the more I'm flabbergasted.

As a HF…yes it’s a key thing. Goals are pretty important.
HF's should be different to FP's. Stengle is a FP while Moore is a HF so should be judged on different metrics. Only Bont and Moore averaged 20 disposals and a goal this season

Stengle is the 2nd best FP this year, Moore probably the 3rd or 4th best HF.

Agree Moore should've been in over Papley

Paps is a huge reason we are 3rd. I didn’t have him in but was a borderline selection. I had Toby Greene in and he’d have been in had he not missed the lst few games (he missed the first but due to a rubbish suspension)
