People saving DPP FWD should look at one guy in DEF as well.

Scott Pendlebury is doing a lot of training both MID and DEF and could play a lot of football back there.
Could become the 2022 version of 2021 Aaron Hall.

As a $492k MID you just can't start him, but could be interesting around Round 6.

I said it last year and it remains the same now. I will not pick Ridley again until Heppell retires or is out long term.

See you in a few years Ridley.

I thought about this but with all the rookies putting their hand up in the middle I can't waste a spot on a guy at 500k hoping he gets DPP.

Hence my comment about not starting him.

Just food for thought for the DPP upgrade options to come.

Oh dear. Ridley scratched then.

Don't be too quick there. Ridley's SC strength is his seagull factor. Jake Kelly will relieve him of the defensive duties that for balance needs, Rutten had to use him in for about half of last year. I think he'll be around >105 just on that basis. The end result of the kick-ins makes no difference to whether or not the kick is judged as SC effective. A simple play on and boot to the wing will get points, unless it is marked or free kicked by an opponent.

Sphynx how was Hall looking today? Still seagulling like mad?

Sorry if you mentioned in the other thread, I missed it amongst the North and Pies fans having a slappy fight.
Sorry, Sphynx is down at Sportsbet ATM putting a $1K bet on Hall for the Brownlow .....be patient

It's more likely than not he will be playing a floating defender or picking up (and ignoring) the 4th or 5th forward and will probably be the last line of defense. He won't get stuck up the ground having to tag players like he has the last two years on occasion.
I'm pretty confident he'll be a top 3-ish defender for SC points this season. Just my take

Guys likely to be sacked from taking kick-ins this year include J Lukosius, J Short, L Ryan, J Ridley, J Ziebell.
All sucked balls last year, with J Ziebell the worst by a mile.
The true kick-in guns of the comp last year were led by C Gull, M Duncan, M Redman, D Heppell, L Whitfield.
All v.good last year, with C.Gull the best by a mile.

Clubs that will likely re-assess and/or have different guys taking the kick-ins this year include:
North, Gold Coast, Tiges, Saints, Adelaide, Freo, Carlton

Not solely on this basis, but i'll be avoiding Ridley this year.

Ridley's scoring started on fire last year, but that was until he copped a minor injury that many assumed was the cause of his drop in scoring...but just as importantly his scoring reduced a chunk as it quickly dawned on them just how lousy his kick-ins were. Hence Redman muscling into the job by mid season, and our meltdowns about Redman ruining Ridley's scoring. Good coaching though to identify it early.

Some have spoken about the potential for Ridley to be somehow "freed up" with Jake Kelly arriving for instance (and talk of Hurley), but that is likely pure speculation that isnt supported by anything. He was already pretty much freed up and played a lot of footy a long way out from goal, and the last 3/4 of his season reflects that situation. The evidence actually suggest a simpler verdict....Ridley is significantly overpriced/overrated this season.
He had a 98.5 avge that included an inflated scoring bubble of 125, 136, 147, 124 in the first month. Average out the rest of his season for a more accurate reflection.

FYI, Redman was playing for the blue team in match sim during the week I believe. Pink team had the "A" graders. Not sure what to make of that.....I have him in our best 22.
If it's a quick kick out before the opposition can get set, whoever is closest will take the kick and a lot of the time that will be Ridley imo. You might find Heppell and Redman taking more of the slow ones.
The other take is that Redman and Heppell are not renowned for their overhead marking, unlike Ridley, so Ridley would be an option to kick to from a kick out.

Pendles taking kick ins at the intra today. But Maynard didn’t play
Pendles likely full time across halfback and taking some bonus kick ins, at $492K and every chance of DPP mid/def by Rnd 6...or (say) Ridley at $537K, not taking kick-ins.

A no brainer for me.
Some guys are simply overpriced. Just saying.

Look for Weller getting the kick out's for the Suns. Training at HB and looking to emulate his idol Aaron Hall and be the most beautiful seagull in the league. (Bowes and Luko took a lot last year and won't this season)

Some of these poor performing kick in takers have reasons though. Also note they are playing for teams lower down the ladder. Ziegull for example, North were far king terrible first half of last year, not his fault if the spuds he kicked to turn it over. You would need a more in-depth look at what sort of kicks the players were making, lots would have been chipping it, others taking more risks.

Regarding Ridley I think he's priced about right. You are ignoring the injury game effecting his average. Heppell is the issue for him, as with Heppell there he had to be more defensive. If Redman comes out for Kelly/Hurley then he'll score well imo. You will probably be able to pick him up cheaper at some point though.

Maybe it's a pre-season watch. Can't see Pendles taking intercept marks like Ridley does

Interesting .

Some teams could look different after six weeks .
