I think our selection has been much, MUCH better this year under the new coaching group, and I'm sure there's a reason why it was done this way, but I'm just shattered Kemp was dropped. He wasn't perfect, but he was also reasonable considering he was thrown into the role of 2nd tall, with a 35 odd gamer as the #1 KPD. I would have liked to see him get a few games as the 3rd tall next to Weiters and Young. Take some pressure off with not having to deal with the other team's 2nd best forward and some freedom to intercept and take the game on.
Obviously that would likely then be at the expense of Plow, who would also be considered a bit stiff to get dropped, but we know what Plow brings to the table. I want to see what Kemp offers, especially now that Young has grown in confidence.

Given recent experiences, we'd be crazy not to take S Durdin in as the sub.

OUT - Honey
IN - Weitering

No more Newnes as a defender thanks, and Cerra really needs to prove himself. Owies can wait an extra week, while Kemp finally gets his shot as a 3rd tall.

FB - Kemp, Weitering, Plowman

HB - Saad, Young, Docherty

M - O’Brien, Cripps, Walsh

HF - C. Durdin, C. Curnow, Fisher

FF - Motlop, McKay, Silvagni

FOL - De Koning, Kennedy, Hewett

I/C - Newman, Cerra, Newnes, Cottrell
Newnes horrible in back half

What if our runners get injured and not the KP'S?

🤦‍♂️ or it could just mean we have an extra option in the mix for their role?

If Hayes sticks they'll convert Newnes list position to that of a younger player.

Newnes may move into a coaching role.

Watch this space.

I find the comments around Newnes curious. Last game, 100% by foot, lead overall efficiency of our team. 1, one on one contest, which he didn't lose.

Kemp 3, one on one contests, lost all of them

We have Williams, Boyd, Gov, Marchbank out and Stocker not as sharp, who else is going to play as the 7th defender?

I think people just get fixated on certain players and want them to succeed and barely even watch how they play. Newnes has been great.

Kemp will get his chance.

Docherty McDonald Williams
Saad Weitering McGovern

was the starting line up with Newman on bench.

in a few weeks you will see

Docherty Young Williams
Saad Weitering McGovern

with either Newman or Marchbank on the bench.

I think Boyd is ahead of both Plowman and Stocker anyway - if he were fit....

and re Kemp had more fitness he would be playing between the arcs ...need patience there I think.
Would love to see him on a wing....but as you say, requires more fitness

I was a big knocker of Newnes last year, the opposite this year. Thought he was great on the weekend.

I get the conundrum and don't necessarily disagree.
We've been caught short (pun intended) a few times this year when we've lost a tall mid-game and usually early.
Not ideal to take a tall in as the sub, but surely, with more shorter/faster players on the ground in general, if we did happen to lose someone who wasn't a tall, we could shuffle the deck a bit to cater for that easier than covering a lost tall with a runner?
A lot of those other players can at least play multiple positions at a pinch.
Usually I would favour the faster, more versatile player as the sub.

I would not be banking on Williams getting back this season based on current 3-5 weeks timeframe.

Probably need to put the Kemp commentary into perspective, he played a role when we had no one else available, he does not have the body size to play against key position forwards right now, he did a pretty good job against Fremantle/Taberner, he was undersized against Ryder/Marshall.

He has shown enough to believe he can be a very good third defender and maybe key position defender if he gets a little size for this role.

Pretty fair bet, based on history, that he will stay much fitter for much longer than both.

True, although interestingly he was (like so many others) recruited to us under an historic injury cloud! Guess it's harder (than some people seem to believe)
to predict future injury probability based on past injury occurrences...

Perspective should be viewed in a number of ways. I have made comments over the last two weeks, that while Kemp is playing undersized, his positioning was poor and was giving his opponents way too much space. Came in to try and play a role due to all our injuries, rather than solid form at the lower levels

Kemp will be a damaging player, moreso as a utility where he can spread his time over a number of positions

Exactly. Marshall had a career high 12 marks despite missing a good chunk of the game with concussion protocols. Yes Kemp is undersized, but needs to do a lot of work on his positioning before he's going to displace anybody on our defence.

He did not kick a goal for the game so would be drawing a long bow to assume a large chunk of the those marks were on Kemp in the forward half.
Ryder & Marshall kicked two goals for the game on him, hardly game defining, main issue was at the other end with ineffective goal kicking.
