Just can't see a 3rd KPD being picked, not long until we find out though.
From memory :Round 1-2 were the only game we have been able to play with Voss's best 22 and structures.....

Weitering McDonald and McGovern(interceptor)
Pittonet and TDK

now one can argue that McGovern isn't KPD height - but he was played as the intercepting third and did a wonderful job at it

this week Voss has an opportunity to play

Young/Durdin and Weitering as teh intercepting tall
still waiting on Pittonet (and McGovern/Marchbank )

but Durdin ( as I said) can also play relief ruck...so he plays TDK's relief ruck role except from defence....

having 2 genuine talls and a tall playing intererceptor is so much stronger than just 1 and half talls like we have been playing for five weeks now....

I think Kempo out is just Weitering in as his substitute and Durdin may get a run because he can play relief ruck...

we will see...

but I have no doubt that as soon as Pittonet is back and McGovern is fit or Marchbank0 Voss will go to this structure because it allows a spare tall noth front and back as well as a lot of other things....

No, but they could use Young as the interceptor

Yeah that's possible, and as a few posters have said, matchups may dictate a change in structure - but Voss has articulated many times that in his team, there are certain number of spots for each player type - 2 inside mid spots etc.

I highly doubt S Durdin comes in as well, IMO we will back our midfield to limit their supply and keep rolling with the Weits/Young combo as talls with Plowman playing taller and TDK following the resting ruck back.

Not long til we find out!

I'm no gambling man but would consider changing that to put substantial money on Voss never using Weiters as 3rd Tall.

I'd release him in to the forward pocket as a small forward... I am also not an AFL coach.

Isn't this overlooking Plowman's injection / role in the structure though? I.e. Plow came in for McGovern

I agree, Marchbank would have been first choice 3rd tall / interceptor, followed by Gov, then Plow. Injuries have dictated we roll with Plow, but he has also been in some good form and could possibly stay involved once Gov or Marchy are fit.

Young was targeted to play as the 3rd tall behind Weits and Jones. With Marchbank and Gov out, we may see that either this week or the week after against the Cats

Jones pulled out after the trade (after the last list lodgement

I guess regardless, they must have been targeting Young well in advance - never seen anything confirming he was targeted to play 3rd tall / interceptor but accept it could well be the case.

It will be interesting to see if the MC adopt a "horses for courses" selection strategy for the first time this year.

Docherty McDonald Williams
Saad Weitering McGovern

was the starting line up with Newman on bench.

in a few weeks you will see

Docherty Young Williams
Saad Weitering McGovern

with either Newman or Marchbank on the bench.

I think Boyd is ahead of both Plowman and Stocker anyway - if he were fit....

and re Kemp had more fitness he would be playing between the arcs ...need patience there I think.

Whether you like Plowman or not, the one thing he hasn’t been effective at is intercepting…over a 5 year period.

I don't think Boyd is competing with Plowman - that'd be Marchy or Gov surely. Boyd was looking great, sad to see him struck down. His trajectory was so good I reckon Williams might have been starting to feel nervous.

Agree with the lineups overall, and that's why I personally don't see how Voss would go with all of Weits, Young, Durdin and Plow in the same backline this week, regardless of opposition line-up.

Do u mean third tall behind Weitering and Jones as in backup and not on field? Wording makes it unclear.

Yeah agree 100%. What I am saying though is that he's the poor man's 3rd tall we have until the preferred options Gov or Marchy come back to give us more options.

Only way I see us structured to include S Durdin is as a direct replacement for one of the 3 talls, not in addition. I.e. 3 of Weits, Young, Plow and S Durdin this week

Not that it’s relevant right now due to fitness, form and injuries, my first choice back 6 are

Weitering, Saad, Docherty, Stocker, Young and Marchbank. The 7th def Williams.

The only one I’m worried about long term until more proof comes in is Young.

Yes, I get what you are saying.

If Durdin was selected to play, then I’d want it for Plowman. But as Durdin hasn’t shown us anything yet, then I’m ok with Plowman and Durdin misses.

As an aside, I’m really interested in seeing Hayes. It’s the area we struggle in so just want to see what he offers on a good ground for wingers.

Good thing for our club that we could make reasonable cases for the following too: McGovern, Newman, McDonald, Boyd. And undoubtedly, as polarising as he is, Plowman.

Hayes is one to watch, every team needs capable, selfless role players in his position and he is all that plus more.

If Hayes gets and takes his chance he could spell the end of Newnes.

Pretty fair bet, based on history, that he will stay much fitter for much longer than both.

The only problem for Setterfield is hardly any football for a fortnight, otherwise I would prefer he be given a go over Newnes (even though I don’t think Setterfield is going to necessarily add anything). Heck, let’s give Hayes a go. We know he will give 100%.

Kemp stiff.

Expect the final bench to be Fisher, Cerra, Small Durdin, Newnes (but hope for one of the others).
Emergency: Big Durdin.
Setterfield has the ability however he just doesnt seem to use it
A few of the Giants have done that....just maybe cannot sustain a full workload,at least Kennedy pushes himself until no more
but a lot of them wont do that
