No Cunnington or Anderson, though Goldstein will absolutely murder us.

Figures that, the second Pitto goes down, we're playing against all the top rucks in the comp. I'd say we need to make sure we're looking to shark their taps, but to this point this year we've not set up to do so at any point.

Xerri has been getting most of the ruck minutes for North this season.

TDK has the athletic leap to be getting hand to ball first in ruck contests.

Our worry in regards to Goldstein is his height down forward as I'd think Weiters would go to Larkey.

When Harry attacks the ball and leads hard he 100% looks a million dollars but I noticed last night that he seemed far to willing to engage in wrestling with his opponent and when he did that he started flaying his arms about and looking to the umpires at which point he essentially becomes completely useless to us.

My real concern is I’ve noticed him do this far too much this season.
The only reason for him to engage his man IMO is to keep them away from Charlie (and vice versa) so I wonder how much of it's coaching (Charlie had the better matchup for us yesterday, as Harry had Pearce) and how much of it's Harry getting distracted by niggle?

The thing is we have decent options now to come in as soon as next week- Stocker, Carroll, Motlop, Willo & Dow. One of MK or JSOS likely to be back too.

Philp is a dangerous forward who attacks the ball hard, surely he comes into the debate too.

Also, let’s just pull the trigger on Kemp down back for the third tall forward. He’s a class act with immense upside and surely gives us more than the likes of Parks and Plow for the time being.

Philp needs to eradicate his fumbling firstly, or no point being elevated. If he’s not clean at VFL level, he won’t succeed at AFL with even more pressure around the ball.

Because he was playing with a crocked leg from midway through the first.

BTW, not that many here would know or care, but Northlane were brilliant live...
Have they got any tall defenders we can get in the mid season draft?

On Harry: for whatever reason, he seems to have 3-4 of those “battling through a knock” kinda games per year where he becomes completely ineffective. Used to be similar with Weiters, but he seems to be able to back up more these days. I don’t think it’s a lack of grit for H. Could be purely due to bad luck, but I reckon more to do with technique / body positioning in hitting packs. Also think he needs to try and lead up to the footy more to avoid the amount of contests he has to hit each week. Hope he studies Hawkins today (not the diving) as he is probably the best in the comp at KPF forward craft. I reckon the Coleman gives a bit of a false read on Harry, as he is still young and a fair way from his ceiling IMO.

I noticed in the votes above that Williams received 4 votes. For the life of me how anyone could give votes to a guy that has zero composure, no intensity, terrible disposal and poor decision making. In every game so far this year and in the practice games, all of these were evident. I have seen two games live and watched him carefully. Some absolute howlers last night. Whenever he gets the ball it is a lottery as to what might happen next. Sadly a bust as a quality recruit.
I don’t understand why he takes our kick ins either??

Setters has to go.........Slow of mind and foot . 46% efficiency :straining: Easy swap with Bam Bam

Newnes has had his day..... Carrol or Kemp. Maybe Dow.

Durdin or Owies for Motlop, they were both ghosts last night, it is time to give the boy a shot.

Little Fish has earnt another chance but GEEZ HE WAS BAD :poo:

Williams SHOULD NOT be kicking out, he is just no good at it. Weiters is our best kick wit Gov out.

Martin to a wing and get him involved, he can still push forward and score. two touches in second half damming.

Jack SOS back obviously huge .

I just cant figure how/why We CANT/ WONT hit Harry and Charlie out front on the lead????

We just KEEP BOMBING IT IN!!!! We will never be a top team till we sort this out.

Culprits ?......Pretty well everybody, SORT IT OUT VOSSY. It is SH-T!!!

PATHETIC night all round cept for our Great Captain , Saad , Cerra , Hewitt , Dochers and TDK.

Cant win anything with only six contributors ( Walsh big numbers, little impact but probably should be in the positive list)

I think our current game style isnt going to do any favours for McKay and Curnow on the injury front. Having to jump into the middle of packs all day because of our inability to spot up a target cant be good on the body.

Not going to win games of footy when the differential of inside 50s are that one-sided

Yes we won clearances, but it seemed that most of our outlets weren't to the advantage of teammates

Most of the focus should be what we do with the pill from a clearances and in open play. Thirdly, our setups and structures when we don't have the ball

We’ll never be any good as long as players like Cottrell, Setters, Newnes, Parkes are in our side.

Good news is, we have good players to replace these guys.

Bring SOS, Gov, Stocker and Dow in. Have to play Dow. He’s a better player than the 4 named above.

It's not all doom and gloom. Continue to build this year, make finals, get the experience, then really push for a flag in 2023 to 2025.

Last thing I’d do is drop Fisher. Has done absolutely nothing for so long now. Make him earn it

Kennedy to come back in too.

Did it look like Charlie was saying “we’re done, we’re done” after he kicked that goal?

I remember reading his lips and recounting what he said but for the life of me can’t remember it now (COVID brain at the moment).

It was along the lines of, keep going, push hard, not give up.

I seem to have lost a post, but I did want to say "Wasn't it great to see a full house at Optus". I'm always a bit down after a Carlton loss, but to see people out and about enjoying the experience of footy (and other events) is a good thing. Although I'll be watching on TV, hoping to see many Baggers at the game next week.

I loved it too, hated the booing but love the rivalry forming between the two clubs.

Transition from D50 was where the game was won and lost.

We allowed freo the short second outlet kick in preference of defending the corridor. It was then only one decent long kick possession from them before our defence was under serious pressure.
This happened over and over.

The flip side from us was our lack of presentation due to either poor game plan or work rate to get the same second possession and clear our own D50.

Stationary targets everywhere gives us no option but to either kick long to a contest or move the ball laterally(over and over).
These options were ineffective, especially with zero bigs to hold a mark. TDK flies for everything but holds little at this stage.

And our switch is pointless when we are slower than the opposition.

My question is why?

Is it an old school way to play now to lead up at the ball? I was at the game and it was lacking from start to finish.
Has the old-fashioned lead gone the way of the shepherd?

We looked slow and lazy.

Setterfield's 1v1 run for the loose ball where he was more interested in the man instead of being first to the ball was enough for me.

He's the first to go.

Seemed a different player at GWS. Not sure what is happening with him.

It’s cruel the way we deliver the ball to H, he’s constantly forced to crash packs. Big difference with Hawkins is his team mates deliver the ball to his advantage.
H also needs to be better at throwing his opponent away then leading, Hawkins does that better then everyone

Charlie had multiple 50-100m leads that were ignored, or kicked to the apex of his jump - not to his chest.

Charlie is an elite runner who will smash any KPD in the competition back inside 50 if he takes them for a run up the wing.

I’d be beyond frustrated if I’m Charlie yesterday. His mercurial abilities made his game look passable but he had to work way harder than he should to get 3 scoring shots.

LOB was a good link up option when he was in the side, but he is pretty soft still and doesn’t work hard enough defensively. I still think he’s better than Setters though.
