Durdin, Young and Marchbank for Essendon should be the go.

I'd much rather risk it and work out the cobwebs against a team we can still most likely beat, than trying that combination for the first time against Tigers, Dockers or Saints.

Of course match fitness will be a bit off. Who cares. People out here making it out like carltons being stupid and rushing something. Russell has shown himself time and again to do the exact opposite of rush players back.

Yeah 10 or 20 years ago you'd presume he would be well under fitness levels but they work these guys extremely hard in the training block before even playing any games at all. He has since had 5 qtrs of vfl football so he has had match fitness. probably not as much as they would ideally like but enough.

Maybe he should have paid attention and covered his own man, that was clearly killing us...
How didn't he recognise Sidebottom had times where he was 30m clear in Collingwood's forward 50...

If he can't see what was happening during the game and adjust to it by actually playing on his man...
Then maybe he shouldn't be playing...

He didn't get beaten because Sidebottom was better (can more than handle that), he got beaten because he
gave Sidebottom no respect and let him do as he pleased...

Collingwood pulled the defence towards the middle of the ground then ran a player to the pocket on his own 10m-15m from goal.
It was a tactical issue, not a player who was constantly caught in a two on one situation that was the problem.

Sidebottom got out the back of every Carlton player who was supposed to be marking him - he is their flanking link player- who was on him ?- it wasn't Saad. Nothing happened unless it transitioned through Sidebottom and was repeated 4-5 X during the game - the same plays.

That was Cotts, he completely lost Sidebottom in transition multiple times.

Boyd must be very close to selection, just needs to be given 2 or 3 games in a block.
He'd be better than Stocker against the small forwards, but Plow is hard to remove (who varies between very good and okay and is more versatile.)

Would love to see him given a run on the wing, has all the attributes to be successful

I love Marchy, but his kicking can be VERY hit and miss...

Saad was matched up on Lipinski, but didn’t play close enough attention to him.

Cotters being the great runner and team player then ran his arse off, past Sidebottom to cover for Saad to man up on Lipinski who was in a more dangerous position. This left Sidebottom on his own. Let’s not blame Cotters for busting his gut.

Not saying Plowman is a perfect defender, but over the years I felt he copped this more than any other player.

He regularly peeled off, trying to cover Jones/Weiters/others' opponents and would often get beaten in the contest. It would look like a poor contest from him, but really it was great work from him to even be in that position in the first place (often covering for others' failings).

I think a lot of that came down to nerves and his age when he first played for us. hopefully the maturity surrounding of Doc, Newman, Plowman and Saad will combat a lot of that. Take Stocker for example, I love this bloke to pieces but his kicking can be cringle.
