It's that time of the year where we're about to hit crazy season on the board.

In order to keep some order around the place, I've locked all threads except the standard ones that we have during the season - refer #5. Will leave the rate my preseason thread going until final lockout.

Any new threads that don't fit in to the standard structure will likely end up merged with either an existing suitable thread, or the General Chat thread as a catch-all.

Good luck to everyone - this is one of the toughest years to pick a starting side that I can remember.

Caveat the to this is that you don't need to trade every rookie you start with, although taking a zero does put more pressure on the rest of your rookies. Also the zero ccan help with looping for more than one round but you will likely get a zero by round 2 anyway, but it is something to consider.

I'm taking a DPP zero but I acknowledge it is risky. I have so many midpricers that I can either trade down to gun rookies or keep which means I don't need to sideways rookies but conversely means I may have to keep a midpricer or two that is averaging less than the top echelon and I might lose points on the competition that way.

So it could go either way, if it was me id take the zero but 30 green dots is appealing. Trade boosts mean you probably want as many rookies gaining cash as possible so you can be more aggressive with trading and that favours taking 30 green dots. It's a tough call. Arguments on both sides can be compelling.
Problem is the quality of those green dots is just so bad and expensive in the backline.

True. Backline is probably the place to loop a zero. D/M at D8 is the way to go. Given most of the playing rookie prices backs are DPP (SDK and McCartin) you can always trade a forward or mid to a back so I don't think there is that much risk of an unplanned donut in defence.

I'm really torn on this one, love to get the rnd 1 flyer and a 163 as skipper is a great start.

Option a) Leave as planned, back Grundy with the C. 30 green dots.

Option b) Currently have Durdin as my F7 emergency, if he manages a 75+, then turn Baldwin into Martin (provided he isn't playing or sub) and get Durdin's 75+ + Trac 163. Hope that Martin gets a crack in the next few weeks.

Option c) Grundy to Preuss, play Hayes this week. upgrade to premo elsewhere.

Don't want to be too short-sighted, but Trac is only in 11% of sides, so it could be a big boost early.

None, they’re all bad options

Bring in a donut but not Grundy to Preuss 🤦‍♂️ especially if it means fielding Hayes

Go hollands. He’ll play, DPP and has as many Sunday games as freo in the first 7/8 weeks

I'd much rather a 102k D/M donut that I can use as a loop and a Daicos swing over paying 171k for Gibcus who could easily be dropped before he's even made 50k.

If a cheaper option comes available like Sinn or Kelly then I'll jump on them, but if not a 102k player it is.

Are we rage trading Gawn yet?

Nope. Gave away 5 free kicks, had 9 clangers, went at like 50% efficiency and dropped basically everything that came his way and he scored 92. Unbelievable really.

Jackson was also literally a non factor. Reckon Gawny played 80% in the ruck.

No it is not.

A lot of things can happen over the duration of the round.

It will come back to haunt them.

Honestly 30-50 points isnt worth it this early, with shit rookies around better to nail many rookies you can early as cash gen is pretty key. You can probably make the points up and more when you gotta choose between like a Bont or a Luke Parker.

Touk is ply against a neafl side anwyays. 50 + disposal and 2 + goals

I think he does.
But 139k is a lot to risk on a chance to play.

Yeah, that's all it is; a chance. I wouldn't pick him, I'm backing Madden to get and hold that spot but Wilmot is the only that jumped to mind as a possibility for anyone looking for a loop that could play next round.

I think Madden will lock down that spot.

Isn't the DEF where we desperately need a "green dot" bench though .....I would have thought, the midfield was the area to loop ....with JHF, Ward, Daicos, excellent JS ....and other good rookies

It's a question though, and I understand it ....of cash generation versus having playing emergencies ....and we're not flushed with DEF options

Gawn hasn’t cracked a R1 ton in last 4 years, and has averaged 120+ in each of those years.
