It's that time of the year where we're about to hit crazy season on the board.

In order to keep some order around the place, I've locked all threads except the standard ones that we have during the season - refer #5. Will leave the rate my preseason thread going until final lockout.

Any new threads that don't fit in to the standard structure will likely end up merged with either an existing suitable thread, or the General Chat thread as a catch-all.

Good luck to everyone - this is one of the toughest years to pick a starting side that I can remember.

I think hes more of a spud pick. people go 'oh he had a good grand final, I know him', and that 'spud pick' possibly will be the highest scoring player this round. fu** me

Spud pick lol righto.

Prob goes 110 plus at 600k .
Good value .

Caveat the to this is that you don't need to trade every rookie you start with, although taking a zero does put more pressure on the rest of your rookies. Also the zero ccan help with looping for more than one round but you will likely get a zero by round 2 anyway, but it is something to consider.

I'm taking a DPP zero but I acknowledge it is risky. I have so many midpricers that I can either trade down to gun rookies or keep which means I don't need to sideways rookies but conversely means I may have to keep a midpricer or two that is averaging less than the top echelon and I might lose points on the competition that way.

So it could go either way, if it was me id take the zero but 30 green dots is appealing. Trade boosts mean you probably want as many rookies gaining cash as possible so you can be more aggressive with trading and that favours taking 30 green dots. It's a tough call. Arguments on both sides can be compelling.

Yeah, nah, not a tough call at all IMO but each to their own.

if cripps flops im gonna melt
Follow in the illustrious footsteps of Travis Johnstone

No chance of a flop - he played injured last year, and this year he’s fully fit

Plus having Cerra & Hewett in the midfield, he will be coached to play to his strength - i.e digging the ball out of contests & not to do too much

Massive game tonight SC wise. Will start sorting out a lot of teams.

Not really. Most of the players from last night and tonight are pretty standard. Arguably the same tomorrow night. It'll be the weekend games that start making a difference.

Yep?

You Kent's were on fire .

Wonder how many have trac I had him in but couldn't do 4 X 600k mids ...

Gawn will bounce back .
Started Trac last year and held him the whole year. Found him incredibly frustrating. Faded in and out of games. Notable that Dogs don't tag and realistically, Trac is more tagable than Clarry (IMO). I went with Clarry/Macca/Steele/Touk instead in MIDs. No regrets there. Still like those four over the year ahead of Trac.

I'm really struggling with:

Dylan Stephens & Will Brodie

vs

Jake Soligo & Mitch McGovern

Stephens JS doesn't fill me with confidence and I'm worried that Brodie's preseason is a false dawn. Admittedly I didn't follow Soligo during the pre-season so have no idea about his scoring capability or JS, so that's another spanner in the works. And McGovern could be playing a lockdown role tonight if Balta plays forward so might not be getting the intercepts that he did against Melbourne. Although you'd think that Carlton's system should lean itself to him being the interceptor.

I'm leaning towards Soligo & McGovern.

Thoughts?

This is annoying. I have Xerri but if he's not selected, I'd switch to RalphSmith, but he plays tonight. What's the bet Xerri ends up on the ******* extended bench.

Ralphsmith is an emergency

Almost certain.
He is by far my riskiest pick I reckon.
And even more annoying is that McGovern is the other option, who also plays tonight.

If Xerri doesn't make the final team not sure what I'll do. Might be forced in to Brodie at F4 - yuk.

X to Dixon for me.
Take the cash.
It can be done Sunday hopefully.
