The suggestion is most clubs have a list of 4-8 players they are interested in and will pass once those are off the board. Freo and St Kilda no guarantee to even use their first pick.

I don't get the logic in passing personally as it's a free hit. Maybe clubs are conscious of drafting players on 6 month contacts and forcing them upturn their lives if they can't see a strong possibility that they will want to extend them at the end of the year?

That, but a new player still takes up resources. Club needs to go to lengths to integrate them, house them if they are from interstate, make plans around diet, strength and conditioning, medical...what's the point if the club never rated them?

Also we still have to pay them right, so although a low contract it still comes out of our cap?

Saw an article that suggested we aren't certain to take our 2nd pick. On a scale of 1-10 how badly do you think this board will explode if we pass on it?

That's true. All factors I'm sure.

Then that's on the list management and not the player.

We still need to go with the footballer.

If he can't play it doesn't matter how tall he is.

Going with height regardless of ability is how you clog the list and go back to the days where you're praying the likes of Setanta, Hampson and Warnock learn to actually football.

Think most have been on the list management team’s back with regards to KPP. A failure to adequately address.

So the list management now needs to rectify for the type of player required around our other players for now. Mid-size defenders can, and likely will be, looked at post delistings/trades this season.

Mid-season draft should be needs now basis, unless we had placed an extra on the inactive list for a futures pick IMO, though preferred players need to be guaranteed to still be on the board for our pick/s.

Not suggesting we should take a much lesser type, but the Saints are a good example for what I would prefer

I would rate Wilkie and Battle (think you would agree that both are more 3rd talls) slightly ahead of Howard, but given we also have a number of 3rd talls, I would take Howard over the other 2 for our list

If there's a Howard comparable type available - I think it's Durdin, we'll see - then by all means go for it. He's up to the level even if he's never going to be a star.

Just don't want to see us draft 195cm+ player who's nowhere near it.

You pushing JSOS to the ressies or backline?

That has always been my concern with the setup I prefer, Jsos could be squeezed out of the side like someone like Weidemann, but there are always bench spots, injuries, form slumps

McKay, Curnow, TDK as the forwards make sense

It's a tough call on JSOS, could always be the 7th forward on the bench...
Or even a mister fix it all over the ground

Relax, we pretty much never have all our talls healthy at the one time anyway.

And we played all 4 as forwards with Pitto no.1 ruck in the first few rounds this year and won them all.

Had a look through full list of those in mid-season rookie draft and not a lot there that excites in terms of actually what we need:

I'll be content for two talls drafted. One for key defence and other to help in ruck or they both be able to do a bit of both.
Lot of names I not know.

If Josh Cripps is taken, (very much doubt it) he looks way too raw to actually play anytime soon, but I'd be happy for him and his bro,

Please two from these, thanks...

Sam Durdin
Connor Ballenden
Jesse Glass-Mccasker
Jack Maibaum

Salary cap but even outside of that how much do you think recruiting a player, particularly from interstate, costs a club?

Genuine question.

Salary is true, but these guys wouldn't be on much. I reckon we'd have the room.

As for cost, no idea. Salary would be the biggest cost associated, it wouldn't be hard to find accommodation etc.
