I've always liked Jed Anderson - I was keen for the Suns to draft him. It's no surprise that North seriously struggled in the midfield when he didn't play this year. He adds a lot of hardness and grunt.

Would he play in our midfield if everyone is fit? Probably not - but he'd be great backup to have. I'd have him over Fiorini, Constable, Tsitas, etc.

No brainer for me.
Jed Anderson feels like a good fit for us right now. Quick and skilful midfielder who is currently in his physical prime at 28 years of age and has 100 games of AFL experience under his belt. I'm pretty sure he would immediately contribute to our best 22 which is a good enough reason to recruit him. Plus, he's an NT lad who grew up in Darwin and played junior footy for the Buffaloes (Rosas' junior club). I'm sure he's still got some really good footy left in him at 28 years of age and I think the more Darwin/NT connections we can create at the club, the better. These are some very famous names in NT footy history: Jimmy Anderson (Jed's grandfather), Russell Jeffrey (Joel's father), Bill Dempsey (Malcolm Rosas' grandfather), Michael Long (Ben's uncle) and Cyril Rioli Jr (Ben's cousin) are all members of the NT Team of the Century that was named in 2016. Throw in another member of the NT Team of the Century Darryl White who has done some coaching for us in the past. The who's who of NT football history!

Probably getting way too ahead of myself here but Jed's eldest son (Elijah) will become draft eligible in 2031 which means he is a part of the same draft class as Kai Rischitelli. So if Jed did come to us in this off season and happened to play 100 games for us then we could have two father-son draftees come through in the same year (2031). Jed also has another son (Jasiah) who will be draft eligible in 2033 and a daughter (Katerinah) who will be draft eligible in 2038. I believe all three children were born in Darwin so that's another connection to us.

I assume that if Jed moves to the Gold Coast in this off season then his first son will start playing junior footy on the GC and he will quickly find his way into our academy program (do we need to start a father-son program soon?) so perhaps when Jed's playing career comes to a close there would be merit in offering him some kind of development role that allows him to stay based on the Gold Coast and regularly head back to Darwin to help develop our academy talent there. Similar to the role Harbrow has with us but perhaps more Darwin-focused.

Sydney has one of the best backlines..
Yet they bringing in Francis.. on the cheap mind u.
Would of loved bringing him into the Suns. Best 22 for me.

Free up Ballard ASAP
From what I saw in the VFL this year Sandy Brock is already better than Caleb
Is an intercept marker and smart
Don't need Francis

I like Jed but skilful is not the word I'd use for him lol.
Absolute butcher of the football

I keep an eye on North as an ex supporter and with family connections .Was surprised Anderson was overlooked this year especially with Cunnington out most of the season.I think he'd be a great pick up.Have always rated him.

He missed a lot of preseason delaying his vax.

Was not in proper condition all year, played like 70% TOG and sat on the bench for big spells of a quarter.

He is an animal, He’ll fit in well if we get him, his tackling pressure and numbers will suit Dew’s game plan.

Anderson is Defs best 22 for North next year so it is strange he’s in limbo. Clarko or no clarko

Not best 22, IMO. Tough and cheap depth - yes please. I compared his stats from 2021 and Fiorini's this year. They are mostly in favour of Jed, including disposal efficiency and double tackles. Surprisingly, Jed's DE is actually better than most of our midfielders, including Noah and Touk, go figure.

Look at his kicking percentage though.
48% by foot this year.

I also think Brock is developing nicely, his speed, kick is superior to most of our KPD already. He really improved in VFL finals, in reading the game, intercepting. But he is different type and nowhere near Caleb strength. I suspect Caleb is groomed to eventually replace Collins in 1v1 role, like it or not.

Agree, no need for Francis, especially also considering Andrew.

Different game plans, north take the safer kicks to keep possession And slow build up from defence.

Suns been hacking it forward, all our mids have high meters gained, low disposal efficiency, and try lock it in

I would write off this year due to covid crap. Not that I would claim he is skilful :p, but he did was one of better North midfielders in 2021, hard, tackling. Definitely want him as depth.

I am , we have been decimated more than u guys . What I am saying is the current system ain't working , it's still very much the VFL. Why do you think the last game before a draft is always a Vic Country v Vic Metro game (to increase the number of Vic kids drafted) .We both lose 4 or 5 good players each year and then Collingwood and Melbourne make huge noises when they.lose a Henry or Jackson
I see difference between Suns and GWS at the moment.

Yes, GWS lost 3-4 players every year recently they mostly wanted to keep but Suns are actually about to lose only 1 player (Rankine) in 3 years. I am pretty sure GWS would prefer to keep Hopper, Taranto, Bruhn as best 22 and even possibly Hill and that's just this year.

After this off-season Suns should be in great shape salary cap wise and if you look at best 22, it's a pretty exciting and maturing list. Bowes, Fiorini, Corbett were depth and depth will still be there, just cheaper.

GWS re-signing of Kelly, Coniglio, Greene and Whitfield - all on 1M and possibly more for 7-8 years (except Greene for 6 years) is hurting them now. Only Greene delivering recently. There are some back ended salaries too.

Call me crazy but I am quite bullish about Suns next year.

But, I agree, VFL advantages like e.g., 3rd party agreements and bias are frustrating and makes it very difficult to compete.

I'd be worried if it's Sheezel that falls to us, he might be too good to refuse. I can understand if GWS want a medium fwd/mid they would take Humphrey instead. Seems like a reach at 3 though.

Agreed Cadman is a waste of a pick for our situation.
Sheezel screams flight risk, not worth bothering with. Cadman a waste as you say.

Tstastas?

If he can develop two way running sure.

With what Steven King and Cameron have said we want a midfield mix which run both ways.

Elijah has elite offensive stats, doesn’t kick many goals and nothing shows elite defensive pressure like eg. Clark/Wardlaw.

I think he’ll be wasted on our wing.
He’s better suited at another club

would love to see Mackenzie or O Hollands playing on the wing for us next year however if sheezel was available at 6 I would want us to take him. Even though people think he is a flight risk people were saying the same thing about Ben King back in 2018

Did the covid stuff play a part in him missing lots of footy this year?

Fair enough. I've seen him do some nice things with the ball in hand but admittedly I don't watch many North Melbourne games so I'm not the best judge in that sense.

Certainly tough and can lay a tackle which suits us. Just remember, we're losing Bowes and we're unlikely to have guys like Fiorini and Sharp next year. Would Anderson squeeze into our best 22 because of that? I think he probably would. Seems to suit Dew's game plan too so that could definitely play in his favour in terms of selection.

Really? Tsatas would be my first pick, we have enough of the contested defensive types on our list, that explosive pace and skills on the outside is something we seriously lack.

I agree with this. I don’t know anything about this specific player, as I haven’t followed the draft much this year.

But that is definitely where I would be drafting. Elite ball user or explosive mid/outside runner. We still have developing inside mids in Davies and Flanders, plus Hollands. Time to balance the list.

Last year we took Andrew. He was around that mark at pick 5, but filled a need. I don’t want us to just take the “best player” if they are surplus to our needs.

Bless you :moustache:

I want us to get Olly Hollands. Not fussed about the most of the high picks this year. Suspect Wardlaw will be the best but we would need pick 2 to get him probably. Trade back a few picks for more 2023 capital and grab Olly :thumbsu:
Might need to somehow trade up for Ollie somehow, given pick 4 may be too soon, and the next one you have is in the 40's.

I doubt we take two top 10 picks this year, doesn't seem the year to load up on high picks.

Like The Kings Ransom said above. Swap firsts with someone like St Kilda and use that on Hollands plus gain more points for next year.
