Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Things you havent considered:
1. The possibility of finishing higher up the ladder than the pick we trade for.
2. That we might rate the player we take higher than the pick we trade for.
3. That we rate the draft pool next year lower than this year so pick x this year might be multiple picks better than next year at the same number.
4. An extra year of development is worth a lot.

What you are really describing is loss aversion, which is irrational and the reason why insurance companies make so much profit! Time to put that fear in the bin and get on the expected value train. Toot, toot!
there are no guarantees in life, when something comes off you look like a genius, when goes wrong, you look silly. you are right though, we used a high pick on DGB, so far not looks like pay dividend. Regardless of what you do, whether you use pick 60 to pick up a good player or pick 8, as long as comes off, should be okay. next year is so far away and with all the rules about things makes things complicated. I am not sure whether we have approached clubs about splitting picks, but before pick match for Mccabe for example Adelaide 10 & 14 or GWS 7&16. If whether you pick up O'Sullivan, Watson, caddy, Curtin is all similar, you pick up one of those plus another good player with slightly later pick, you do not involve next year's F1. Another theory is you pick up the talls first O'Sullivan / caddy as opposed to Watson/Dursham, takes talls longer to come on, stay closer to bottom alittle longer, more access to top end talent. There is no right or wrong strategy, regardless of what you do, if you pick up a great player with pick.

There might be a surprise in store.
Its Happening Ron Paul GIF

We’re looking good with Pick 4, McCabe, Dear. Add our trades in players of Ginnivan, Chol, D’Ambrosio Gunston and this has been very good off season.

Pick 8 would be icing on the cake or Pick one a miracle at the cost of 4 and 2024 1st round pick.

Kudos to our Hawks for keeping busy this off season and focused on the improvement of our list!

I really don’t understand the ‘why get Curtin if we are getting McCabe?’ comments. Ignoring the fact that Curtin will be ready made for senior footy and MCCabe won’t be, that Curtin is more versatile than McCabe and it’s a positional need that’s never had a team suffer by having two quality tall defenders - it’s like saying ‘why would we draft Franklin when we just drafted Roughead?’. If Curtin is viewed as the best player at 4 then we absolutely get him at 4.

I know this is a big call, but if that kid (Curtin) adapts to first footy straight away by going ANOTHER level, which seriously he may just do by having a big pre-season, and he gets even just a little burlier.........I see a Peter Knights kind of player who could just wreck a competition. He could be a top top player straight away.

Looks better than even Bont I reckon at the same age, with just such a natural nose to find the footy in the air and be at the right contests. To my eye that kid looks otherworldly in terms of potential and could have ANY of the first five young talents covered in terms of outright mad ability and production if he takes to AFL the way I think he might.

We can't go wrong at ANY of our likely options at #4

Hearing Cats not willing to part with pick 8.
If there's one club out there that knows us almost better than ourselves its the handbaggers and I reckon that they think we're going to rise up a couple of spots so yeah I'd be surprised if they did a pick swap with us.

A showcase of Big Game Zane at his best over the course of the 2023 season.

This guy is every chance to be as good as Harley Reid - just more of a forward/mid than a mid+everywhere.
I just love watching him.

Beautiful balance, graceful movement, excellent hands, his timing in a marking contest is perfect, good work ethic, and he's not soft - loved the contested section of this clip. I think his midfield abilities are being underrated.

He's like Shaun Burgoyne if he was optimised to play as a forward.
If we can't get Reid, it's Duursma for me.
He simply does it all and his upside is uncapped.

Falls right in between Jack Gunston and Bailey Fritsch stylistically in those highlights as a forward. However with the under-age form he's shown you'd have to think his ceiling could easily eclipse those two players.

Very everything we have heard so far, the top 6 are above the rest. We dont seem willing to give that position up but i guess we will wait and see.

Better this way. If I let on who we're taking ..
1/ It might change by draft night, and
2/ We'd have nothing to debate and argue over for the next week.

See, I'm doing everyone a favour really :)
I find it incredibly hard to believe that you are privy to info from the club about our player rankings. This stuff is as tightly held as it gets. So either you are being fed false info, are misinterpreting discussions with staff as gospel or eavesdropping/reading emails that you shouldn’t be. Maybe you are the cleaner and get a peek at the whiteboard. Or it’s all BS.

I really hope you are not doing the wrong thing because as a hawks supporter you should know putting the club ahead of a few hits on a website is more important. I hope you aren’t the kid of a staff member as that would put them in an unbelievably difficult position.
