Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

Despite all the chatter to the contrary, I honestly think WCE trading #1 to NM for #2 & #3 is a chance to happen on the night.

WCE have too many holes in their list and Reid can't fill all of them, so are they really going to be upset if they don't get him?
#2 or #3 can easily be swapped, should they choose to swap #3 with Melb for example.
Would West Coast fans really NOT see the benefit of going to the draft with #2 #6 & #11 as opposed to just pick #1?

North Melb have a reasonable set of mids already - LDU, Thomas, Wardlaw + George is yet to debut, Powell, Phillips etc. It's not stellar, but it's the best bit of their list!
They get #1 - Harley Reid fits right into their onball mob, but more importantly - Press coverage, more members, more bums on seats.

North don't need to make finals anytime soon - they need to get publicity / media coverage to stop the slow death of the club that is happening in front of their eyes.
Membership and TV viewing is low, and they are just a 'meh' club. Harley would be a step to some positive press for a change.

My point is: all the plans for the top 20 picks may well go out the window on draft night. WCE might, just might, decide that 3 top 15 picks are better for the long term improvement in the team, than Harley Reid, as good as he may turn out to be.

It would be nice to have a genuinely interesting draft night for a change!
Going to be interesting for sure. WC would take 2 & 3 imo. I'd do it, get Curtin and McKercher....or trade back and take Curtin, Caddy/O’Sullivan at 6 and someone else at 11. So many possibilities.

Would North offer that though? I doubt it.

A showcase of the silky smooth and versatile Daniel Curtin at his best over the course of the 2023 season.

He looks like a superb talent.

My only issue with those highlights is that it doesn't show his defensive efforts playing as a KPD. Watching him there he looks like a superb midfielder / mobile half back that happens to be 197cm.

Watching the Harley Reid highlights from the "Footy Stuff" YouTube Chanel (credit to them) - he really plays a lot like Newcombe when he's in the middle. He loves to draw a man which creates some space for others.

I hope Newcombe ends up working on his forward game, as he's got a vice like grip when marking and he could really have an impact resting forward.

I am going to sleep much better knowing Clarko calls him Curts FMD
Yes but that follows him calling

Buddy - Bud
Roughy - Ruff
Lewis - Lewy
Hodgey - Hodgey
Sam - (campaigner Sammy)

It means everything

North won't offer that.

I feel like North will talk to Dees about trading 3 for the deal being offered for our pick 4 & Dees will take it

3+F2 or F3 for 6+11+F1

Then trade 2+6 for 1+23( they will demand it for sure but may settle for 37), then take Reid & Duursma/Watson with 1+3.

Eagles love McKercher, so may take him at 2 and gamble for Curtin to be available at 6 or the reverse. They will get one of Curtin/McKercher/Sanders at 6.

Lot of Shinbeggar's Curtin talk is to spook Eagles into accepting 2+15 for 1. Then they will still trade the 3 to Dees and make bank.

Anyone have any ideas on if no bid comes for Dear, are we forced to take him with last pick given our nomination or can we still decline and take our chances with Rookie draft.

Why would they give up so many assets when they can just go 1 for 2 and 3

Maybe you read that wrong.. North will offer 2+6 after making the Dees trade given above.

This happens only if Eagles don't get spooked with Curtin talk and accept 2+15 prior to draft night & conform it on the night.

It is Eagles wet dream that 2+3 is on the table.

I feel like Dees are holding back as their move is dependant on if Eagles get spooked. If they do, then the they come our pick 4 as North will then hold 1,3,17,18.

If North make the noise about Dees deal, the Eagles will hold tight and demand 2+6. North are trying to maximise their chances.

North hold 2,3,15,17,18 now

They are trying to get to
1,3,17,18
or
2,6,11,15,17,18 + Mel F1 ( then offer 11+17/18 for Cats pick 8+F2)
or
1,6,11,17,18 + Mel F1

All our moves are hostage of these North moves who have been blessed by AFL House.

PS : HS club draft choices write up

The age's mock draft has McCabe at 18 and Will Dawson picked by North last teens pick, so he may very well be gone if there is so much interest.

I would prefer the Hawks to do a pick trade with the Cats. 4 and 8 as it stands now plus McCabe and Dear would be a very good outcome.
Still allows the Hawks to pick up a high end talent (Watson,Dursma,Curtin) and a talented player in the next group (Caddy,O'Sullivan, Sanders).
That would be our very best outcome I reckon. I don't know how close we are with the Cats in doing that but I really hope it works out.

Just offer up birchalls dog.... he should be house trained by now ;)

On SM-A546E using BigFooty.com mobile app
Always wondered what they called that dog. I was thinking Bruce (named after Bruce Springsteen). Either way that poor old dog probably has psychological damage after that period of it's life.

Hopefully it can get done, getting 3 first rounders this year would really fast track our rebuild.
I would much prefer pick 4 and another top pick than trading down with Melbourne.

So in the same day we hear Clarko loves Curtin, calls him Curt’s and the Norf recruitment manager has all but given up on agreeing to a deal with West Coast for the No.1 pick ……. don’t take up playing poker you amateurs!
Only thing worse than their poker is their football...

Trading down has so much risk with it. The media can say all they want about Curtin slipping to outside the six but what if Dees decide to take him given that Watson would be taken by the Dogs? We'd be left with Caddy who I like but we would have missed out on Curtin or Watson.
And anyway it's a moot point about whether Curtin drifts or not because I think we'll take the Wizard regardless. The only decision we'd have is if Duursma slid to us as well. I suppose it's not inconceivable that North go for Colby & 'Curts'

The club has been consistent for weeks going into this draft that this will be the last year we use our first. The only way I could us trading down is if MM/Mitch see another kid that they consider to be on the same level as the super 6 …….. that we or the media don’t see!

Totally agree its a big gamble. l will be happy with any of the proposed players at our pick. They will all offer something we need.
I will be very surprised if the Hawks don't select Watson, they have already put time into him over the last couple of pre seasons and would know what he has to offer and what he needs to improve on. Getting someone else like Caddy or O'Sullivan to name a couple would be a great result.
